I agree with what you said. Being a white guy from the desert I'm not going to speak to the racial issue though, except to link this article where a fan got banned for making racial comments. I fully support this:

But I would like to say that I think people get all soft about sports stars getting angry. he shoved a fan. What if what that fan said wasn't about race? What if it was about his mother? Does that mean the athlete needs to take it. I'm not down with the Michael Holmes type beat downs or anything like that but likewise I don't think fans should just get a free pass to say any insult they want.
Of course it's not smart to shove or get in to any kind of physical altercation with a fan but I can understand if someone is mouthing off to an athlete and insulting him, his family, race or whatever and gets beat down. I have no sympathy for fans that do this and get the shit kicked out of them.

No matter what was said? Reports are that he called him a nigger. I'm sure the huge majority of this site is white and can't relate to maliciously being called a nigger, but I've been there before (not that white people can't be victims of racism too, not saying that at all. However, like it or not, the n word strikes a chord among us). After a huge momentum swing play like that, to get called a nigger on top of it would be extremely infuriating. I'm not excusing his actions because yes it was very stupid of him to shove him, but I can't say I'm upset at him for his reaction and I can't say that I would have reacted differently (if he actually did call him a nigger).
And before somebody responds about it, I don't say nigga or condone the use of that word. I hate that word almost as much as I hate nigger. So please don't respond with "well you guys say it" because no I don't.
If reports come back saying that he didn't say that or something along the lines of "I had relations with your mother" then I'll withdraw my support of Smart and agree completely that it was extremely stupid of him. Sorry to get all racial but yeah, felt like this needed to be said.
Edit: After watching the video a few more times I think it's very possible he did in fact call him a nigger. You see Smart laying on the floor and he immediately gets up and clinches his fists after the initial words were said (where it appears he called him a nigger). Smart gets in his face and you can see the fan saying "Sorry about that" because he realized how dumb he was for saying what he said. Then Smart pushed him. Speculation here but context clues tell me that's how it went down.
I agree, I like his size as well, but it's nice to see he is a good student also with his high GPA! I like the kids we are getting in our Hokie Family more ways than one. I believe they are getting good kids, that are also good students and good character! Guys, if the Administration doesn't give Coach Morehead and Coach Gray big raises, we are going to have to rise up and demand it as they are doing great jobs and will be poached from us soon if they stay at the same level. The kids love these guys!
Both our gets today have cool names - DuWayne Johnson goes without saying and Mook Reynolds sounds like he could be a rapper.

I have to agree! Pitching should be strong, which is amazing as Heinz is just a Soph., still getting back from a tough injury as a Sr in high school. She has great speed and I'm hoping Angela gets her rise, change better and more movement. Please come support these ladies!

# | First Junior Day for the Class of 2015 in Blacksburg UPDATES AND OPEN THREAD The Hokie in me LOVES this image but the designer in me can't stop noticing the terrible lighting on the Hokie Stone wall behind these behemoths. Should have used a diffused LED strip on top and bottom to wash the whole wall with light and not just these three areas.
This is probably one of the good aspects of Cassell, something like this would never happen. Pretty stupid of him to shove the guy, no matter what he said. Being the "star" player, he needs to manage his temper more and do his damage by winning, not whining.
That's what I'll hopefully find out tomorrow. I don't recall him getting hurt anytime recently. He had been receiving little to no playing time recently due to his lack of hustle in practice/general overall bad attitude, so it's either an extension of that or he got hurt in practice right before they left. I'd consider the point at which Trevor fouled out as an emergency situation. Having a stretch 4 in the game when you are down 4 could help stretch the floor.
I had to listen on the radio, but from how they were talking about it Wood was only dressed for an emergency situation (I assumed that meant we only have 4 eligible guys left). They didn't say why though.
It was clearly stupid, but I always give the benefit of the doubt to the player in these situations. Like in the Boise State-Oregon game a few years ago. It's just that we don't know what the fan said and for all we know it did cross the line.
Not every day you get to ensure victory for your team as a fan..

Not many home games compared to what the men have, but this team will probably make some noise in the ACC again. Scot is doing some good things there and bringing Tincher on definitely will only help the pitching.
End of 1st half and end of 2nd in a nutshell. First a chance to take the lead into the half and they choke, then a chance to win it in regulation and they turn it over. I know Jarrell is the "lead" senior on the team, but with the game on the line, I'd have put the ball in Wilson's hands. I don't trust Jarrell to dribble more than twice. Hell, Nick Faust knew that. The entire end of the Maryland game he just kept whispering to Jarrell that a turnover was about to happen. March 13th will not come fast enough for this group.

To me its a case of a young kid getting caught up in the day. He will have other visits. But he is pro vt. And no one disrespected the kids wishes by any means.
I don't understand the logic of putting Beyer in there when down by 4 with JVZ and Trevor fouled out and you leave Wood on the bench. You need a shooter on the floor. Beyer puts in the work and is a great hustler, but when the game is on the line, I'd much rather have Wood in there. Maybe I missed something and he was a scratch or something, but I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with him other than JJ building his doghouse around someone new.
TOS jumped the gun - Reynolds has not committed. Bitter has also backed off his report.
Someone is going to have to teach that HH guy to check more than one source before he reports a story.
3 am??? Sheesh, it's a good thing it wasn't like that when I was there...last year...cuz 3 am woulda been my new bed time. Jk 3 am was always my bed time.

Seems he didn't commit if you talk to VTScoop. They are saying that hokie have jumped the gun and not respecting kids wishes. Interesting drama. Still very early though for commitments.
In regards to the whole "4th meal" things, DX is now open til 3am apparently. I wish it had been that way when I was on campus! It's also a good place to to buy double cheeseburgers to put in your hoodie pocket and sneak into football games.
guys please dont get excited about this and take this of any sign that things are turning around. We played the exact same game we have played since ACC play started, it just happened that pitt only scored 48 points too, this is about what we usually score.
If there star patterson has a solid game and scores 15, we loose this thing by 15, he either had 0 or 2 in regulation.
Another pitiful offensive showing, I swear it is not that hard to score. And it just gets ridiculous how many times we dont get shots off after a time out, coaching is our problem, we are a mess out there.
