Hopefully we can start working the NE Florida area through Ford too. As a current Jax resident that would be awesome!

I think the bigger issue, more so than missing recruits, is the number of guys who have either left the program for whatever reason or have had their careers limited or ended by injury. Bitter did a great write up on it earlier this week. I'm bummed some of these guys went elsewhere, but I think what the message is be excited for the guys who are coming to Blacksburg. They may be the ones bringing that Crystal Ball back, fuck their star rating.

Got hosed by Nnadi signing with them. Probably headed to ECU or Miami now because of it.

***Sad part of this whole thing is that this guy was so in on FSU that they were the only official visit he took during the whole process***

As long as Greg Stroman is a Hokie, there is a chance. Stroman is his best friend and you can bet that he will work his hardest to make Settle a Hokie.

Well, yea...we want the better players. But if we don't get them I want us to play against them. There's a reason a lot of top recruits go to SEC schools.

I would put our chances at getting Settle at 0.1%. We have ZERO pull in-state anymore with these top players.

Technically, no. It's most important that we recruit talented players who fit our system and have good character. If a recruit has all three of those things, I don't care if they're from VA, MD, CA, or the UK.

But from a practical standpoint, it's easier to develop relationships with local (within a 5-6 hr radius) coaches, teams, families and communities. The advantages of this are:

  • The logistics are simpler (easier for the coaches to be more visible).
  • Younger students follow example of older students (See Tyrod looking up to Vick).
  • Coaches are more likely to tell us about under the radar recruits (ie Luther Maddy, not in state, but we have our coaches have developed connection to his school/coach).

TL;DR
We cannot recruit successfully without building 'pipeline' relationships with schools/coaches/communities. It's (typically) easier to build these relations at in state schools rather than out of state schools.
