I hear ya. I've noticed my hatred of the skins has all but dissipated since I now have several options at my disposal to watch the games I want. The internet is a wonderful place. Now I don't hate them. Just pity them and their fans
Walks out WWE style to this:
I grew up in a Redskins area. It was really obnoxious listening to the most unrealistic fan base I have ever encountered talking about how Deion Sanders and Jeff George were gonna lead the team to the Super Bowl. Then it was about how Joe Gibbs was awesome (I liked him as a person, but his time had clearly passed). Then it was Albert Haynesworth. Then Shanahan (he was never that good of a coach without Elway, a monkey knew that) and McNabb. Then RG3. This is a fan base that complains about how Dan Snyder handles personnel decisions, but then enables him by getting overly excited every time anything in free agency happens.
I would be happy with
1) Money
2) Money
3) running clean programs and developing our kids for post college life.
he's not getting fired already is he?
I kid, I kid
DirecTV
That is why I wonder if he will give JJ a third year while he addresses funding issues in his first year. A modest increase in funding will allow him to open the purse strings more for a new coach.
Yes, they definitely competed with each other to see who could play the worst basketball the last go round. Tech won.
Rob, your list is the most realistic. Its a combination of coaches with good resumes and in the price range VT could support for the next couple of years while our AD gets our alumni giving scenario turned around and churning cash. A hire like any of these would get good attention as well.
Question: Which one has best recruiting roots in our region?
I don't know any of these guys and suppose that many here at TKP have some good info. Please pile on!
Will be interested to hear what he states as his first big objective. Hopefully the list goes like this:
1)Money
2)Money
3)MONEY
i was there a couple of weeks ago against bc with a buddy who's not a tech fan but just likes hoops. after the game sitting at macado's sipping beers my buddy summed it up with, "man that was some sorry ass basketball."
Part of the reason I despise most unions. They were needed in older times before a lot of the labor laws were written. My family has had nothing but bad experiences with unions screwing over their own members to put the union first.
The worry is if the Hokies hold on selling, the raceway will give more tickets to UT now and there will be less available for the Hokies when they start trying to sell. If UT sells 80,000 tickets, that means there will only be 30,000 available to the general public after the Hokie Club gets their 40,000 tickets.
^^^^THIS^^^^ Love Kam but HATE Pete Carroll so much more.
Hopefully our injured players will be able to play tonight.
Quite honestly, I don't care who we hire, we just need a new direction.
Right now we're basically at the 'it really can't get any worse' level of playing, so no matter who we bring in, unless its a raw newbie again, it should be an improvement over what we see now. Give me a coach who will have the offense actually running plays and playing positionally sound defense, and I'll be happy. I just want to know what I'm seeing out there is actually organized basketball. Right now, we don't even have that.

Yah, not sure how I feel about paying a coach that's never reached the sweet 16 - 2 mil a year.
Thats my point. The NCAA would just keep naming kids ineligible until their was no one left to play? Until they got sued by ESPN for breach of contract by ruining their billion dollar TV deals by denuding the product?
The point being, that if they wanted to strip kids of their eligibility and give those scholarships to other students to play...if those students were ultimately worth watching they would be absolute morons for not leveraging their current situation for a better one.
Great News. Danny deserves a chance. His injury at Dallas slowed him down, but he must have really worked hard to get back to where a team would want him. Love this news!!
"As a graduate student at UNC-Greensboro, Willingham researched the reading levels of 183 UNC-Chapel Hill athletes who played football or basketball from 2004 to 2012. She found that 60% read between fourth- and eighth-grade levels. Between 8% and 10% read below a third-grade level."
This is just at 1 school UNC not all NCAA schools, but yes regardless this is a problem and there is no need for these kids that take advantage of athletic benefits to be rewarded what so ever.
This. I would add Syracuse to this as well. My guess would be Duke or Syracuse when ever Coach K or Jim Boeheim finally decide to retire. Shaka Smart will be a name that pops up then
When winning only happens 3 times a year, it gets you pretty excited. Skins fans don't know how to be anything with a win.
As for being forced to watch...that happens everywhere. I get to watch Tennessee and Atlanta every weekend and I don't hate them for it.
The money issue is why I left off a couple of names from this list. Grant was one of those, also Mike Lonergan at GW, Greg McDermott at Creighton, Shaka at VCU, and even Gregg Marshall, who I think would be a great candidate, but is already making $1.6 mil a year at Wichita State.
All of these guys would be a big improvement but are going to cost about $2 mil a year to bring in, so if Babcock can swing that, then I am all for these guys getting interviewed.

You pay for it! Haha
