Thanks for clearing that up. I though it was smart (pro) and stupid(dual). Smart like playing behind a fundamentally sound OL with a playbook and athletes to throw to. Stupid like playing behind an OL who was picked for their looks, personality, and ability to get along with a position coach while having to run for your life looking for a WR who had long ago broken off his route in order to find open space you could throw into.
Now I hear that we're gonna take the stupid ones and make em play smart, whereas we used to take the smart ones and make em play stupid. The whole thing seemed kinda nutso to me. Then to explain it to my family after having had a few drinks at tailgate. They thought I had no idea what the hell football was about, despite watching far too much of it every weekend.
I find it much easier to root for stupid people trying to achieve something beyond their grasp. For me to root for smart people who are organized, play as a unit, adapt on the fly, etc. is downright unnatural.
Was I always this F'd up or did VT football make me like this?

The only time I really remember watching the Friday night games is when I'm in a hotel near Blacksburg waiting for the game on Saturday.
Outside of the first weekend, Black Friday, and bowl games, there's no need for a major conference game on Friday.
I'll chime in with a lot of the same basic comments.
I wasn't aware of the details of the Hokie Club. I knew it existed, but figured it was one of those things that you had to be older and richer to have a realistic shot of being a part of. If I was ever contacted by them, it was back when I first got out and had no money to give back.
I also work a crazy schedule, so I only get every third weekend off. And with a kid that spawned during the 2012 season, I'm lucky to get to one game a year now.
I'm still in the loan payback stage for a little while. Besides, when I start donating money back to Tech, I first need to throw some money to the HTs.
I'm glad so many kickers are gonna be there to compete but I just want one that can be reasonably dependable on and off the field. It seems so difficult to find one...

It should most certainly not be television material, but unfortunately people watch television just for this type of stuff. And the broadcasters will continue to air it as long as it gets views. It's a terrible system.
So have Saban, Kiffin, or any of our other favorite coaches been seen scouting out their future rosters yet?
I think the most redeeming scene in that show was when the coach and parents held the kid who had a concussion out. Kinda bringing awareness to the issue.
Beyond that, it seems like these coaches are taking the game too seriously for a bunch of 3rd graders. It's almost as bad as Dance Moms or Cheer Perfection, but for boys.

this. When I was at VT, Owens was far and above the best option. I ate there almost every meal. Everywhere else was just OK. Seems we missed out on some great food.
I'm pretty sure preferred walk ons are guaranteed a scholarship if they meet certain conditions. For kickers and punters, it's usually if they win the starting job at the beginning of the season. For other non ST players its probably different like a spot in the two deep.
Edit: While I'm pretty sure the above is how it works for the Hokies, especially with kickers and punters, a little more research points towards preferred walk ons having a guaranteed spot on the team, while a regular walk on has to try out.
That show is trash. Kids that age shouldn't be taking the game that seriously yet. Also the parents make me sick. One mom said "even I can hit better than that" talking about her own son.
I thought it was more like there's an "open" try out for the team prior to spring/fall practice. They are guaranteed a walk on spot that way.

I agree with egbert as well and with this too.
We are arguing the semantics of what a booster is and liability above. As you say here the rule is not written well and does not cover social media. There are problems with the rule. That's all I am saying as well. Too many problems with the rule to make it enforceable. And as egbert said this is largely a deterrent for universities to use on their fans.

Ticket: Is this new? or only for students? I have bought tickets to college games at many universities and I have never once signed anything or checked any box.
Ridiculous comparison: I was not saying the two are comparable. I was commenting on you saying universities accept unlimited liability. If they did then they would open to any type of lawsuit because as you said buying a ticket now signs them up to a forma contract with the university. One that requires the university to somehow follow and be responsible for the actions of people buying a ticket. Unlimited liability is exactly that. unlimited. It would not matter if it is by law or by ncaa bylaws.
Just going to one game does not apply.

So i think what you mean above is "season tickets" which I have already agreed confirms you as a booster. Which means the universities are not liable for the actions of their fans, only their boosters. correct? and simply attending games through ticket purchase and being a casual fan does not define you as a booster.
Look, again I am not arguing that the NCAA says this is how it is. I am just saying that it's impossible for them to do anything about it because they can never hope to control this or hold the university liable for fans in which they can't control. Universities will never accept unlimited liability for anything.

They flip flop back and forth too much. Sure the core fan bases hate eachother a damn lot, but the ancillary base swaps back and forth.
