I had to wonder where you were going with the whole orange helmet thing, but dang...this is a fabulous idea! Oh and pie....the official desert of VT!
Could be recruiting, could be coaching or injuries as with the case of UGA. My point being, VT is a harder sell than other big time programs.

Sorry to get a little off topic, but I just finished his book. Great read. Very insightful as to how he operates. Inside info on Vick's and Cornell Brown's recruitments was fantastic.
The report is hereby declared "true."
As other Internet-based and newspaper outlets have reported, #Hokies expected to hire Stacy Searels as o-line coach http://t.co/EHN7pE43OS— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) January 21, 2014
"A surprisingly large number of people weren't aware of a lot of aspects of it, because they do a terrible job of advertising."
Yeah, this was exactly my point. I never said anything about cold calls. Certainly don't want those. My semi-educated guess is that Hokies give relatively little to the athletic program compared to other similar schools, and I think it is at least partly because of poor or non-existent marketing.
I don't know what more Frank could do....he's already taken their stadium.
Looks to be a good move to me. Searels looks like he's got a solid resume, and hopefully he can build off of what Grimes started. Welcome to Hokie Nation, Coach!
The Hokies aren't going to get anyone of Div-I big boy caliber where the "one and done" issue isn't a concern.
The main reason that any coach is going to stay on anywhere is if they feel they are being compensated at market value. Period.
Juuuuuuust a bit outside.
(no, you can see it bounce off to the left... sans feathers)
Surely you jest....there are twice as many people in the stands than there were at the LOLUVA spring game.
Oh, don't worry, we have our fair share of inside jokes too.
Just wait til the first time you hear about pussy touchdowns, and the fact that they must not be denied.
We also have our own Horse on a Treadmill.
But, while we have the occasional troll, and sometimes get little flame skirmishes in the aftermath of a particularly ugly loss, I think you'll find that TKP is a mostly hospitable place to discuss anything and everything Hokie, and even the occasional off-topic thing.

No, not concerned at all.
This would be 2 SOLID OL hires in a row for Beamer, neither of which had any previous ties to the program. Its showing a very, very distinct change in philosophy from what we're used to in the past. I don't mind one bit that we are picking up guys who could potentially be one and dones before moving on. Means we're bringing in guys who are wanted.
I'll start to worry when we have coaches that aren't being linked to various jobs on an annual basis.
I know a lot of people on the site aren't huge TSL fans, but I came across this - an open letter to the search committee by Will Stewart and I think it is an excellent write-up on what the search committee should be looking for and what most of as fans of Virginia Tech feel we deserve in an AD. Just to be clear it's free content.

Better field position, and Kaep gave it right away.
Glorious.
That's very true. My dad said justice was served on that play.
You can't say that to too many SF fans though.

LT will be gone on day two. He'll kill the combine. Another thing that I think he'll do well at are the interviews. LT was a great off-field guy at Tech, and will only make any locker room that he is a part of better.
My brother just turned 13. He isn't 5 foot and is still lanky because his legs are so long and he's that skinny. He also believes that Minecraft is coding.
What I'm trying to say is I'm not a fan of this
Terrific link, mattjfore.
Steger makes a great case for keeping fees low.
VT is clearly the easiest route the the NFL if you ask me.
All facts to the contrary, especially for those in the front seven. Our DL, especially DTs, seldom make it to the NFL, and we move a lot of them to the OL.
Can't we just leave the darn game alone? Geesh. They talk about eliminating kick-offs...they don't let defensive players hardly touch anyone...I just want them to keep their greasy little hands off of the rules.

That would be my preference as well. If it's so easy right now, just make it a bit harder.
Another alternative I'd enjoy watching is making teams go for 2 every time.. Six points for a TD, with the chance for two more.
