The argument that a 1 loss Bama is still better than most every team in the country is extremely valid. And if you truly want to see who the best team in the nation is you can't exclude them from a tournament so large just because they lost their conference championship game.

What about those times they don't even PLAY in their championship game? They allegedly won a goddamned NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP by beating LSU after they'd already LOST to LSU and had the benefit of having Georgia (I think it was>) soften them up first. They didn't play for the SEC title this year either and if Mizzou had won, there'd be a contingent of whiney pantywastes (a great many of whom work for SECSPN) screaming that Bama should be the number 2 team playing FSU for the national championship.

I look at 3 plays in particular in the first half of the LOLUVA game and grin. I suspect there are some interesting things afoot.

Next year will be fun. We'll lean on our defense a lot next year but, the playbook will open some with the Fr/so having a year of learning them under their belt.

I suspect we'll start the year with Leal because he's had the playbook for a year and the other guys haven't. I expect a redshirt QB to learn the offense next year and mature and we come out swinging with that QB in 2015 along with the Juniors and seniors in the rest of the offense that grew up with the improved skill coaching and know the playbook.

I am excited for 2014 and 2015.

Guys maybe this is what we needed. Play a ranked and very respected team in UCLA... BUT NOT IN A BCS bowl. Maybe the guys will come in relaxed with no pressure and play. There's no record/ media build up that we shouldn't be at this game or ohh the Chokies are 1-8 or whatever in BCS bowls they suck.. Its just a game to go and play.

Yes it hurt to call my beloved Hokies the C word but its what I heard all last year and this year.

Plus, we get our best TE back from injury, and you already saw how much Lefty likes to use the TE, even with a true freshman. I think this year would have gone differently if Loeffler had a TE he knew he could trust all year long. The amount of youth on this offense and the influx of talent coming in next year should be reasons for optimism. It's not like we went 8-4 with a bunch of NFL-bound seniors. *cough* UNC *cough*.

I disagree quite a bit with this. "I saw nothing in his first year..." Well, I saw quite a bit. I saw intelligent design in the passing game, a gameplan that used certain plays and formations to set up other plays, etc. He did what he needed to do to win, and a good deal of the time he was pretty successful. Look what he had to work with: Newsome's Oline (I could end the discussion here, but for funsies, I'll continue). Inexperienced (to put it lightly) or fat/hurt receivers, inexperienced running backs and a QB in need of a complete mechanical overhaul (when a player says he's learned more in 3 months than in the previous 4 years, that's a big problem). Yes, there will always be playcalls that every coordinator wishes he had back. That's football. Just seems like if a play is unsuccessful, the fanbase tries their best to pin it on Lefty. Either he went too conservative and should have opened the playbook up more, or he got too cute and should have stuck with the team's identity. For a guy with so much inexperience, a lack of overall talent and the garbage of the previous coaching staff to deal with, I think he did a pretty darn good job. This year, it was his job to extinguish the dumpster fire and at the same time find ways to win. 8 times out of 12, he did that. Now, it's his job to actually build his own offense. I say give him a year or two more before you start calling for his head and we repeat this process all over again.

That's why I'm proposing to draw a line in the sand. Don't put duct tape on what we have now. Revamp the entire system and layout. Six conferences. 16 Teams apiece. 96 teams. All monies split among them. If there was an 8 team playoff, the 6 winners would be in plus 2 at-large. The money division become easy among the conferences.

Each SEC school is receiving $10-14mil per year just on the reg season contract. Yes, OleMiss is getting some crumbs from the bowl games that they AREN'T playing in, but it's not a make-or-break amount. $1mil? maybe. Again, revamping the entire system, they won't have to worry about how much they may or may not be getting from the bowls. And won't have to make a decision on how mush they might lose to go play in the Pin Stripe Bowl in a baseball stadium in New York over the Holidays.

And you can't tell me that a sponsor wouldn't pay $5mil to advertise in the national semi-final game versus $1mil apiece in 5 minor bowl games?

I could see, especially since it's such a debateable topic in the NFL, player safety being the biggest discussion point into doing a 16 team playoff. You're talking about adding 4 games against stellar opponents at the end of a season.

Counting conference championship games, you're talking 17 games per year. Now, that is less than what NFL players play in a full season counting the super bowl, but I could see where this discussion would come up.

If it's gonna be 8, it'll be the big 5 champs, plus 3 at-large. No way in the world would a Sun Belt champ get in over Missouri or Stanford.
