I think when you are looking at a multi-decade presence there is a always a critical point where things start to turn. Beamer cannot stay in top of his game forever - it is physically impossible. I agree that he has done great things at VT and we owe the success of our program to him. That being said if you fail to notice a decline until it becomes a trend then it is exponentially harder to correct. Let's use Florida State as the model. Until this season they have been a shell since what, the early 2000's? Mack Brown in Texas is another example. This is young man's game. The oldest currently successful coach is who Saban, and he's 62. That's 5 years younger than Frank. And Saban looks much younger. Besides, we have an opening at AD.
Joe, I saw from your hudl link that he also plays LB. I know we allegedly offered him as a RB but do you think with our LB recruiting situation, he might get a shot playing for Foster? Just curious to know if you have an opinion on the matter.

Well, I guess rb is one of those positions where you can never have enough guys. I trust the coaches - they know what they're looking for, and Franks always been good at finding diamonds in the rough.
As a Richmonder, I really hate the Times Dispatch. On the rare occasion I pick up and read a paper, (always the sports section of course) their info always seems either error prone, late to be reported or completely wrong. But as you said, I too find it really curious that we'd offer another running back with the offers we've already given out (in general) to players piling up.
This kid can cook on the field. He's a fast and decisive runner, big too.

I'm not sure how this impacts Shai's situation, but maybe the writing is on the wall there? Or the coaches want to make sure there's a lot of depth at tailback next fall?

Very good comparison to Morgan/Harper - I feel that Caleb has some raw athletic talent (the unteachable type) that we need to use to our advantage. We have the athletic potential to be very dangerous on the outside, if these guys develop a knack for running good routes, becoming solid pass blockers, and having soft hands.
I think the amount of pressure the coaches have on themselves to win this game is unmeasurable, especially for the new hires who KNOW that the coaches that preceeded them created a winning tradition vs. UVA- I know they will feel that it's up to them to carry that on- I doubt they will disappoint.
If it is one game we cannot lose, it is to UVA - the coaches know that. I'm with you - win one for all of us guys!!
That's a pretty crap assignment of watching THAT game 3x over. Much props to you and your well executed explanations. So what about this team can Frankinator do to make the team a true contender? Out of all those teams you listed, Oregon falls closest similarly to VT. Wikipedia says they've never earned a national championship either and have a bunch of conference titles since Chip Kelly. You also hear about their amazing facilities, but how are they getting so much talent? Before that spread offense Oregon wasn't even on the map. Is it the talent or is it the coaches and that installed that crazy offensive scheme. Regardless if you like it or not, they've made it work.

That KO return was amazing. I had just finished telling my dad that every team kicked directly to Knowles because he was a terrible kick returner. Then that return happened.
While that makes me snicker, "formerly" extending a scholarship offer also cracks me up - especially in the same letter in which he touts the greatness of the education. I guess you need to really see the whole thing together to really get the complete failure of it. It's like a perfect dish created by a master chef, where every flavor surprises, but still complements the course. Mike London manages to pack an incredible amount of failure into roughly 3 paragraphs.
Adding that 'T' to Scott Field goes down as an all-time ownership moment. The timing, execution, and the fact that VT then went out and won on that field made it beautiful.
I know there is probably a timetable from prosecution on vandalism crimes. When that expires, the Hokies responsible need to be greated with a heros welcome at Halftime of the next home game.
Seeing Emelogu's play and stat-line from early on this season has me really excited for this kid's and the team's 3+ years left together.

I'm no expert, but he seems to have the size with hudl listing him at 6'1" 220lb.
Plus if he gets burried behind Marshawn and DJ Reid then he could switch to get playing time.
