Everyone has been down on VT recruiting recently, and I don't see why.
First of all, lets be realistic about our football "program"; Its a relatively NEW winning tradition that has won regionally (Big East, ACC Championships) but not nationally. Overall, I would say our "program" ranks in the range of 20th-25th range, and if you want to debate the rank should be higher, I have 1 response; National Championships, none. Half the SEC has one, half the BIG10 has one, half the ACC schools have them (lowly Pitt claims 9 alone.) Other schools that could claim a stronger football tradition than VT include Army, Cornell, SMU and Minnesota. So lets keep our expectations in context.
Considering our football program's success over the last 20 years has our program ranked about 20th -25th, about even with our recruiting. Yes, great recruits have left Virginia for greener pastures. Others have wasted away at LOLUVA. Several have graced our campus, but VT hasn't put together a consistent system for them to fit into (on the offensive side of the ball.) Change to a successful system and recruiting will benefit.
Too much emphasis is put on the quality of the recruits and not their development. Lots of programs waste fantastic recruiting with bad coaching. Miami, UVa, USC, Texas, Michigan, and Florida comes to mind in the last few years. The pinnacle of disappointment is losing with a stable of 5-star recruits; just ask a Texas fan.
IMO, I think Beamer has found a diamond in the rough with the new offensive staff. Grimes has always produced good O-Lines. We need that. Loeffler has always been a great QB coach. We need that too. Virginia has too many fantastic QBs that we miss out on, and for good reason; our former offensive scheme was a mess.
Bring our offense up to the level of our defense (whose recruiting isn't any better BTW, but is a good system with disciplined players) and Beamer might fill that trophy case.
I'm not sure if this is your argument, but I never understood the logic of: three bad plays, put in Leal. The pick in the red zone against Duke, and the pick six against Boston College are inexcusable, but those bad plays were exacerbated by tips for picks and sacks for fumbles (really nothing against Thomas).
It's probably stunning to them because to be fair not many people saw Tech dominating like this.
Why can't this man win the Heisman? So many big plays this year.. he better win something.
Also, for what it is worth, the ads are a necessary evil. They keep the lights on, server running, and compensate the guys who put in all the work to bring the analysis we all love (and I don't mean anything I write). If folks are interested, I could setup a Paypal account for donations. At the end of the day, more cash means more content.
If I could upvote this, I would so hard.. Got a good laugh out of it.
Loved seeing Hopkins clearing the way on those Red Zone and short yardage plays! That was fun to watch!
I apologize. I hate the damn auto play ads myself and let our ad partners know they should not be part of our rotation when I signed up. I sent out emails tonight, hopefully they will be gone by Monday.
I thought Cline had been seriously injured and a few plays later he's back on the field! Tough SOB! Can't wait for him to spend a winter with Dr. Gentry!
I was at the game row 2 Hokies sideline. At about 12 minutes left in 4th the lower bowl was full of hokie fans. We were yelling lets goooo hooookies. So awesome reading this and seeing it was heard !! After the game we all gathered into one corner end zone and the team came over. Cheered and did the stick it in chant then Hokies chant then they gave everyone high fives!! Such an amazing experience.
Copy and save this post so you can use it every week from now on.
Thanks,
All the superstitious Hokie fans everywhere
UMD and wvu lost too.
Now I remembered that we get a highlight vid this week. Now tonight is even better.
Looks like you have some updating. ;)
Totally. But this was a total team effort. Everybody did there job, making it much easier for Logan to succeed.

AJ Huges for president!
Did some digging. Chad played from 2003-06. Profile below is from his senior year.

Logan won this one for the Hokies.
This!
I'm ready to get the tailgate set up. Surely it's not too early, right?
Holy crap that was beautiful. To all the Miami fans giving me and my girlfriend shit when we were entering the stadium, SUCK IT. To the Hokies at the game, you were amazing. Together we were just as loud or louder than the Canes fans. To the team and staff, most complete game I've seen in awhile. Offense was efficient, defense kept up the good work they're expected to produce, special teams forced two turnovers, and we got the lucky bounces when the opportunities arose.
Today, and every day, is a great day to be a Virginia Tech Hokie. And the feeling of high fiving the entire team after the game was pure awesomeness.
We NEED to follow this with a big home win against Maryland but for now I am savoring all of the sour looks I saw on faces of Miami faithful, I mean
bandwagoners.
Sidenote:
Anyone with AdBlock notice how many ads it blocks on Facebook? I saw that it was blocking 135 once.
How many 4 star players did the 99 Hokies field? I don't think you need that many 4 & 5 star guys. It certainly helps but having just a decent offensive line of 3 star guys with a 4 or 5 star QB can get it done with an under rated talent level on defense. Also, having strong special teams and a good kicking game. That 99 team got after ya. The formula works..a top 10 class will never come to virginia tech bc we don't cheat or pay players even if we had nick satan..we would still not bring in top ten classes.
Yeah, I don't want to run adblock and cut Joe out of some revenue, and I don't mind the standard banner ads at all. Sometimes more aggressive ads slip through onto pages they're not supposed to, which I suspect is the case here, and I wanted to let Joe know about it.

Plus I still feel like everyone hates us..
I think we thrive on it though. Haters gonna hate...
