What I really love about this site is that positive dialogue is encouraged and rewarded through the turkey leg system. I can't stand rants on TSL and the battles between posters I have no interest in being a part of. That being said, I think you also need to appreciate what Joe is saying when it unfortunately isn't postive. I think we'll see changes to the gameplan moving forward this year and given the talent-level on our offense his leash is VERY LONG. I feel like we need to remind ourselves just how short we are on raw talent on offense. It can only go up with our recent classes and we will see better by 2015 without question.

Why would it hurt to say? Exum is working back from a major injury and Facyson's play had him on All-American teams at the halfway point this season. You obviously play the better player.

"This is where it pays off, the training and the discipline - the OT and final second wins. No other team can pull out of a two loss winter, move hundreds of miles, go south into a major attack and annihilate those lousy Miami bastards. God I love these Hokies." - Patton

Do you think that Beamer has ever taken the keys from Foster when the Defense wasn't performing up to standards? (Like 2010) I sure as hell don't think so. Have some confidence in the guys that were just hired

we don't technically control our destiny anymore. We can win out and potentially make it to the ACCCG, but we need help along the way. Are we likely to get that help? Yes. If we win out I think it's safe to assume that we'll be in, but it's not guaranteed.

Here's an example scenario to prove my point. If we win out AND duke wins out..we'll both have 6-2 ACC records, but Duke will win the head-to-head with us and get the nod to the ACCCG

but Duke still has to play Miami, and they're not likely to win that.

Go Hokies! Beat da U

I'll be hanging out at the alumni tailgate. Everyone should stop on by play me in cornhole!

Virginia Tech vs. Miami
Saturday, November 9, 2013, 3 hours before kickoff

Saturday Tailgate:

Virginia Tech Alumni are gathering in parking lot W-20 three hours prior to kickoff. Please view this map to better understand logistics traveling to the stadium and where to park.

The Central Florida and South Florida Hokies are hosting a tailgate and will provide games, coolers, and food. BYOB. Because no pre-assigned parking spots are available at Sun Life Stadium, look for the large Virginia Tech flag flying on top of a truck.

A $10 contribution for food is appreciated. Please pre-pay so proper accommodations can be made by alumni hosting the tailgate. For additional questions, contact Greg Fansler at 540-553-5662 or gfansler@vt.edu.

I agree with the optimism bit. Offense is generating more yards, but doing so in an unbalanced fashion. This is a recipe for uneven play and problematic mismatches.

When teams have lock down DBs, they are going to be able to cause this VT offense alot of trouble. Miami usually has lock down DBs but has been giving up alot through the air, so hopefully our WRs will be able to cause Miami difficulty.

Even if you don't have lockdown DBs, we are probably still susceptible to schemes. Playing Knowles tight and aggressive with a big DB, locking down DJ with a cover DB, etc., etc. Byrn was a big time part of the passing game. I hope he can go next weekend. There is a ton of film on our players right now and we've got alot of guys who are only recently taking this football thing seriously. Whether that is through poor coaching or lack of personal commitment, I don't know. Its good that we're moving in the right direction, but we've got alot of guys who have serious weaknesses that good schemes might expose.

Guess that show: "I plead the fif...one, two, three, four, fifffff"

Please stop. French is giving his honest, well studied opinion on the run game and where he thinks Loeffler should stick it (in Edmunds gut, then behind a pulling guard on a power run). If you want negativity, check out one of the reactionary postgame threads. French actually studies the tape and is (along with Mason) one of the best qualified people to pass judgement. He calls it like he sees it: he doesn't have some hidden negative agenda. Take your anger out on someone else

I like this point. Turnovers are much easier to correct than needing to find an offensive identity. We can move the ball with Logan's arm, he just has to keep it from moving into the other team's arms

Dear Chuckie,

Scheme, talent and coaching produce outcomes like yards, points, and turnovers.

Your world is so upside down that your moniker is concerning us. Did you forget about that police restraining order? As your parents, we are pleading with you to stay away from any place where children congregate.

Love,

Mom and Dad

After watching the Falcons, specifically Matt Ryan, struggle again this weekend, I came out of it thinking I may need to cut Logan some slack.

Matt Ryan has been a top NFL QB the last 2-3 years. This year, he is making boneheaded throws, throwing into coverage, etc. He has 7 int's the past 2 games. I don't think Matt has suddenly become a bad NFL QB. There are some similarities between the VT offense and the Falcons offense though:

- The Falcons O line has lost good players to free agency (Dahl), injury (Baker, Mike Johnson), and they haven't drafted particularly well (Konz 2nd round)
- Their big free agency pickup, Steven Jackson, has been hurt all year and generally ineffective. He rarely is able to get back to LOS before the first hit
- The Falcons two biggest impact players, Julio Jones and Roddy White, have played sparingly because of injury and were both out the past two weeks. Roddy tried to play on a high ankle sprain (now this is getting eerily similar to a VT offense!) and was a shell of himself. The coaches finally got him to sit out the last 2 games which ended his consecutive game streak.

So the combination of a poor offensive line, no good receivers, and injuries at RB have left Matt Ryan in a position where he has to try to do too much and is forcing the ball.

While LT is certainly to blame for some of the offensive problems, he doesn't have much around him and that is also a big contributor to his struggles.

And I'm really hoping this post gets me my first turkey leg.

The problem wasn't with scheme, talent, coaching ---- it was with TURNOVERS. VT was -4 in that category. The coach's can't influence that much. The ball needs to be protected better.

I agree with your comment, but no need to take a shot at Mr. French, who spends countless hours each week rewatching and analyzing tape for free, for us.

IF we were to bench LT..........which I certainly dont think we should do, theres a couple things worth thinking about:
1. Do you think Leal is capable/responsible for generating 95+% of our offense?
2. Since we have a pitiful running game outside of LT, could Leal handle the punishment of taking all those hits?
3. OR....where would the running game come from? Who would handle the load? We dont have any back now that can seperate from the pack or more importantly control the game....

Just something to think about.....
I know we are all upset over these two losses, but we still control our destiny!!!! GO HOKIES!!!
