Well they've got LSU this coming Saturday, and Auburn later in the month. We shall definitely see where they stand. As far as Oregon, I've been saying all year they'll get upset once in conference. They've got Stanford either Saturday or next Saturday, so their game is coming soon too.
Plays always seem to be there. In our loss to Alabama plays were there, wr's just dropped everything that was remotely close. Against Duke, plays were there LT just didn't go to the open guy. Plays were there against BC. Again turnovers doomed us. I'm not putting this on SL. I'm on the take that he's working with what he's got. The team is in a new system and we have a chance, a chance, to end up 11-3, more realistically 10-4. Even closer probably 9-5. Not too bad of a recovery after last years debacle especially when we could easily be 8-1 right now and in the top 15 (deserved or not). SL has 2-3 years to prove himself in my book. You can't bring a guy in who runs a different system without guys that play to those strengths and because you're not in the super bowl that very year fire him. Once guys that are recruited for his system start playing we can effectively judge him in my book. If we are winning 9-10 games a year still then he's doing pretty good. Especially if we are winning them convincingly and not by the skin of our teeth. I agree there are some head scratching moments but patience is needed. We are what we are. And this year at least we aren't hoping to pull out a nail-bitter against the hoos to go bowling. And in that game time-cop was our best player. How fortunate are we that a potential 8-9 win season isn't good enough for us? (not saying it should be, but says where we know our program can and should be) A lot of teams are happy to just make it to a bowl every now and then. Anyhow, hope it all makes sense. It's early.
Alabama has gotten progressively better over the weeks, but I don't feel like they've been truly tested yet
I don't think they were at their peak potential yet like they are now back when they played TAMU
What does she look like?
Well, stinrspring is still on staff...
On a more serious note, how often was the option run at auburn, where the qb was probably more suited to running the read option and a worse passer? I know loeffler said he learned from his mistakes there, but running the qb more seems like an odd lesson
Time to bitch slap the canes! I love all the positive responses I'm seeing from this thread and all the youtube vids of previous Hokie triumphs over Da U, its just what we needed after the past 2 weeks.
Good call on looking not one but two years ahead. 2016 will be one.of our best shots at a Natty in quite a while.
Hell yeah, Hokies return to primetime baby! Let's get this W, I'll be in that half empty stadium to see it.
I will be driving down with my girlfriend from Orlando on Friday night probably.
Any thoughts as to why SL is doing this? I know there are some great minds on this site, but I find it hard to believe SL doesn't see something that is so blatantly obvious to us. Clearly LT is Loeffler's best weapon, but his current use of him is limiting his effectiveness as well as others (Trey Edmunds). I just feel like we're missing something here, but I have no idea what.
That is what is most troubling to me. Scot Loeffler was hired to run the football. Boston College (probably with less offensive talent) lined up yesterday and pushed around one of the best defenses in the country. Yet, we continue to piss and fart with influence blocks running read option when the opponent knows it is coming and has three unblocked defenders every play. At least he adjusted and generated some big plays when BC blitzed read option action, but I fear it is fools gold because BC didn't have the cover guys that a Miami can bring to the table. A good power running game cures lots of ills, but the Hokies can't get it rolling because so much energy is being devoted to the read plays. They have a purpose, but it can't be the majority of the running snaps.
Three running play snaps from under the center the entire game. One fumbled QB sneak, and two fourth quarter zone plays. That (I hope) isn't what Frank Beamer was looking for when the move to bring in Loeffler was made in January.
I would use the excuse I couldn't find tickets. But, I cracked myself up typing it.
Since he was hired, and leading up into the season, Loeffler stated and reiterated he was committed to running the football. However, since ACC play began his play calling has shown he is more committed to Logan Thomas.
THIS RIGHT HERE ALL DAY. Thank you, Joe, for putting it into words.
I was gonna say this in my reply. I think they just used that to cover up their initial screw up. On to the next one.
A ton of Winston's passes were really really high, and Miami had some poor defense in on some of those plays. They're a good team, deserving of rank. But, I just don't know how well they'd do with an opponent like Alabama.

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Freedom of speech and TKP...It's a beautiful thing!
We seem to have a history with replay officials....Clemson, Mich, BC...I'm sure there's others that are escaping me at the moment. I just cringe every time I hear "The previous play is under further review."
I'm pretty sure it starts with, "Ohhh ohhhh OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Go Hokies!
I can't wait to drink some Wild Turkey and Coors Rights and watch the Hokies get back on track (especially since earlier in the day I'll be at winery tours for one of my sister's birthdays).
As it happens I was just going over this post right here: Expectations and Reality
I think your points then and now are still true. This season was always going to be a potential non-indicator for the future. Given the turnover on the staff and the lack of personnel for the new scheme this was going to be a rough year. I think for this particular season there is a sense of disappointment over the past few games (obviously) because the first seven games actually went better than expected. We were showing signs of improvement week to week which is all you can really hope for and the massive steps backward have been hard to swallow (I vote for no more bye weeks ever, we suck something fierce off the bye). But aside from style points this season has almost no bearing on what the future will look like at Tech on the offensive side of the ball. Provided Bud Foster can Bud Foster to fill the gaps on Defense, I still think 2015 could be a really special year. Think of all the Freshmen that are making significant contributions now and how much better they will (hopefully, knock wood) be when they are juniors. Senior AJ Hughes, expanded receiver corps, a QB with a few years of consistent coaching.
The rest of this year is likely going to suck ass, we should accept that. It's still better than last year. And this too shall pass.
I'm a redskins fan, have been my whole life. I know what it means to be realistic about a team that may not be very good and has not performed well recently. Doesn't mean you can't still hope for and want the best for your team the next week.
Downvote all you want. I've seen 8 turnovers the past 2 games and 33 the past 2 seasons. I have to see his "A" game to believe it. If that makes me a bad fan then so be it. I'm not a kool-aid drinker. I want results. Not false hope.
Where they should've stayed to begin with.
Thanks Shoog. And I gotta say couldn't agree more. Losing sucks no matter to who and which year, and circumstances, it is in. However, we are bowl eligible and still control our own destiny. This is far better than almost anyone thought we would be this season.
Rebuilding takes longer than a half a season, and usually longer than a season.
But I want to add to this with a few predictions for the year AFTER next....
2016 Predictions for the...
The Players
Offense
- Andrew Ford - RS Freshman gets his start. Lights the world on FIRE
- OL - 2013 OL Recuirts are all RS Freshman or Sophomores. Plus a seasoned Teller and Smith. They are gonna dominate
- WR - You see those young kids dropping balls all over the place. Yah they're 3rd and 4th years now, plus we have all those recruits Shoog mentioned as 2nd years.. Damn
- RB - Trey, Marshawn and perhaps Shai McKenzie. Plus whoever we sign next year.
- TE - Kline continues to be the model TE
Defense
uh.. like Shoog said. Bud Foster. Done
The Season
- I'm just gonna make one. After the Battle at Bristol Andrew Ford will be a nationally recognized name. And Hokies win the biggest game in college football history.
- ok, one more, we win at ol' Notre Dame.
Coaches
- Beamer retires following this or the 2017 season. He will see just how far Ford and crew can take the Hokies.. hopefully filling his trophy case. Following this Virginia Tech is taken over by the House of Foster. Winter is definitely coming.... for every phucking team we play.
- Foster co-coordinates the D with Gray. New DB coach is hired.
- SBeam's takes over as Special Teams Coordinator. RB coach is hired.
- Lefty's offense is well oiled machine and we drop 50+ on someone.

Oregon plays Stanford on Thursday night, as well as Baylor-Oklahoma.
