I still think he pretty good chances of playing time especially after seeing the Cowboys put him on the active roster when he was hurt last season. It definitely hurt his chances, but he is still in the mix to prove himself.

I emailed joe a pic but I don know if he thinks it spam or not but the Baka flag is the biggest and it's the first one. I don't know exact measurements though can't get up that high to check

I saw boykin working out a lot at the Charlotte YMCA over the past few months. Looks like he's staying in really good shape. One day, he was in there with Eddie Whitley and JuJu. Made my day.

Hurrah - I got my wish!!!

Can you hear me now? Can you hear now?

Has to be Miller. VT needs a vocal leader and veteran on that O-line. Only Miller qualifies. I am hopeful that Miller is getting his O-line into shape, much like Tyler and Thomas are getting their players in shape.

Just found out all the construction behind the East Stands is for improved cellphone coverage.

So......stupid question, but how does one manage the O-line rotation? I assume there is a sweet spot between chemistry and fatigue/loss of intensity and it depends upon the depth chart.
How is this different from D-line rotation-(I remember U Florida/Spurrier versus Nebraska championship game where Nebraska's line was rotated frequently and DECIMATED U Florida. )

Danny Coale's chances were really hurt last year when he got hurt. The Cowboys love Cole Beasley but Danny still has a shot at making the roster.

I really like Charley Meyer. In the spring scrimmages I attended, Meyer got walloped a couple of times on long passes from Thomas, and still held onto the football. He's the kind of wide receiver that is in the mold of Moorehead: hard-worker, smart, and according to Logan, has the want-to. He is similar to, dare I say it, Danny Coale, who by the way is still open.

same recruiting service that had DJ Coles as the #5 player in the country during his senior season in HS.

On thing from media day jumped out at me. From Andy Bitter's blog: http://blogs.roanoke.com/andybittervirginiatechfootball/2013/07/21/kevin...

Thomas said Andrew Miller, who was the teams center before he broke his ankle last year, will be a guard this season. Miller practiced at guard in the spring. Junior Caleb Farris is atop the depth chart at center. Thomas touted Millers toughness, saying hell fight you to the death. Miller was a wrestler in high school and briefly at Tech, so he can mix it up if need be. If he fights somebody, that person already lost, Thomas said.

So, our first major position battle to watch on offense becomes the right guard position. Andrew Miller and Brent Benedict will be in direct competition for that spot, but we know Miller will play SOMEWHERE based on Grimes comments about him. That means Benedict may not be a starter despite having a better effort in the spring game (against starters) and Mark Shuman will have extra pressure as well. At center, Farris looks like he will be the guy, and I guess David Wang will be his back up.

Whatever decisions that Grimes makes about a starting five, I hope Grimes makes them defintely at least after the first fall scrmmage. One of my major beefs with Newsome was rotating offensive linemen in and out of the lineup, as it was impossible to develop chemistry. My other beef was failing to get the best five guys on the field. In my opinion, the best five is McLaughlin-Shuman-Farris/Miller-Benedict-Gibson, but regardless of who he picks, there should not be a "rotation" at any position unless injury makes it mandatory.

I'm gonna have to stop you right there champ. Using phrases like "no one cares" is not only disrespectful, it's an asinine comment because it's so easy to prove you wrong. I care about damn near every opinion on this site, because almost all are insightful and add to the great atmosphere that is TKP, and Hokienation in general. That is what is different from so many places, and you sir, seem not to get that.

Was it Derring or Whittemore that was designed by a UVA grad?

Logan and Jack are defintely saying the right things. If the Hokies have a successful season, it will be a true "turn back the clock" effort, where the offense doesn't have the same caliber of talent that we saw in 2010, but the defense is much better. The offense must play smart, field position oriented football and keep down and distance reasonable. Someone posted the VT vs Pitt game in 1998, and it looked a great deal like what I expect this season. In that game, Dave Meyer played in place of Al Clark. The VT offense struggled, but the defense and special teams accounted for two touchdowns and game the offense short field's for an additional TD and field goal. Now, this offense should have the ability to be better in the passing game than that offense, but running the football will be the ultimate barometer for this team.

Forgot about that game. Caught that one when they showed it as well. I still feel we got snubbed when they didn't include our bowl game in that list...

Gray reminds me of Hokie Stone. Anything that keeps stains off of Hokie Stone is a good thing.

I've been watching ESPN's Top 25 games of 2012 to get my football fix right now. So far I've seen Northwestern/Michigan, LSU/Ole Miss, and ULM/Arkansas as well as bits and pieces of some other games. It's not Hokie Football, but it will suffice until I can spend every Thursday night and Saturday watching games.

Virginia Tech dominated the ACC because they out-worked, not out-talented their competition.

Now if we can get competent offensive coaching coupled with getting our talent to out work everybody...we have a recipe for the 10 win season run and a shot (or 2) at a national championship.

Why can't it be football season already???

Does any Joe (no offense Joe!) get to post their predictions on where someone will commit? As I looked through the "predictions" on 24/7 I saw several bloggers from SBNation and a few homers. The one for Penn State is a guy from pennlive.com, which is a Harrisburg, PA newspaper.

Even with that being said, it does make me happy that all predictions within the last month except the idiot from Penn State have said VT.

Score in the red zone
Eliminate turnovers
Convert on 3rd down
Eat black eyed peas game day morning
Hang an egg in a brown paper bag over the playbook
Don't see Logan in his jersey before kickoff
