NOVA is flirting with the ice line now. Snow is awful but manageable, ice will really fuck things up here for a good long time.
I imagine the introduction of hybrids also created some imbalance with the availability of forage. But, that doesn't explain south holston, which has a ton of forage but no competing predators
I don't understand the need to buy French toast ingredients. The most perishable shit you can get.
I went to WalMart at 10pm Tuesday night and got apples, oranges, peanut butter, junk food, and beer. And a few things I can cook on the grill or in a pot on the grill.
Ok. I'm coming to your house.
My pantry is always well stocked, and so is my extra freezer in my garage.
When I hear a storm is coming I run out and stock up on beer.
Cold rain. No impacts to roads or infrastructure.
stocking up on things to make chili
Did that, too. So far, I got the makings for six recipes, two I had tried before:
- stick of butter chicken casserole (did that last night, worked great)
- birria tacos (actually bought dried ancho and guajillo chili this time)
- beef and broccoli, crockpot version
- a spinach and ravioli casserole
- griddle smoked sausage and tortellini with onions/peppers and italian dressing
- chili
Gonna have a lot of leftovers!

Seeing up to 18" for my part of the Philly suburbs. Going to the store in about an hour to stock up so wish me luck. Here's hoping it won't be too bad since there's an extra half day to prep compared to the VA crowd. Planning on doing ribs and cornbread and cinnamon rolls and almond pound cake to cope with being stuck inside all Sunday and Monday.
Some people hear a storm is coming and they stock up on milk, bread, and eggs.
And then there's me stocking up on things to make chili.
What is he saying about Eastern NC, specifically the southeastern NC coast?
Just got back from Costco because I'm a sicko (also because today is our normally planned Costco day and we didn't have the opportunity to go earlier due to work travel).
It was crazy, but civilized. Tons of people and huge lines to check out, but everyone was polite and going with the flow. I also didn't see anyone going crazy with overbuying. People with 2 or 3 cases of water was the worst I saw.
All in all, pleasantly surprised with humanity today.
Yeah, this feels like one of those times where fully discussing the matter at hand requires political discussion, but ultimately I appreciate not having to navigate that minefield here.
10-18 inches expected here in state college. Zero degrees overnight for the next week
I hate cold
If you're in NC, follow @ncwx_authority on the socials. It is run by NC State's version of Eshiben. He gives accurate forecasts without the fear mongering and bait to keep you watching. He is credited with predicting Hurricane Helene's massive rain dump on WNC before anybody else caught on.
Most automatic transfer switches are looking at the incoming power and turning off the main will have no effect. You need to turn power off at the transfer switch not the internal breaker.
Should be a fun weekend down here in Texas! Stores looked like a zombie apocalypse yesterday but we stocked up earlier, thankfully. Stay safe friends!
That makes you a terrific dad in my eyes but I'm not sure their mom will want your influence in their life afterwards. (Just kidding)
I'm north of Charlotte and our local weather guy who's awesome is saying we could have freezing rain with accumulations of ice perhaps over an inch (which is insane).
I am fully expecting power to be out Sunday if not Monday. Thankfully we have gas logs with a battery backup starter and a gas stove so we can eat.
Stay safe Hokies
Here in Chattanooga, we've gone from 8 inches of snow, to tons of ice, to "it might be cold". Hasn't stopped the panic buying though.
Stay safe out there friends.
That's right, from a Tennessee perspective they would I assume bear the costs or benefits of this to their record.
In order to test, you should be able to just shut off the main breaker in your electric panel, and if the the generator is set to AUTO, it should kick on.
That's the other annoying thing. The house I bought this summer has a whole house generator, that I just realized I haven't even tried to start. I'm going to need to figure that out tonight, and stock up on fuel tomorrow morning.

Slight disagree - snow is AWESOME. Fully agree with the part on Ice, though. I live in central NC (near Durham) and we're supposed to get just ice which I'm not thrilled about. We just made a last minute decision to go to the inlaws in Blacksburg tonight ahead of the storm - I believe they're supposed to be getting about a foot of snow
though, now that I'm looking at these models for Blacksburg, it looks to me that they're going to get 2-8 inches of snow. Still better than ice, but not the foot+ I'm seeing reported elsewhere
