Yeah. Pretty sure he even caught a (short) pass in one of the games.

I've always wondered about the stats that are accumulated during a year in which you ultimately redshirt. If he turns into just a great receiver here and is one shy of breaking the receptions mark, will that one from his redshirt year be counted?! #UnimportantQuestionsoftheOffseason

He played golf for Jefferson Forest and was really good at it. Parent's moved to Appomattox his junior or senior year and he stayed to finish at JF. A few years after high school he went to Atlanta to work if I remember right. He has always been a good guy and a huge VT fan even though he never went to school there (as a student). Kudos to him trying to handle that crazy train.

From talking with family that are PSU fans (my cousin who is a PSU alum and her family), they claim Paterno always refused to play Beamer. Something about Paterno not liking Beamer or something Beamer did in the past. None of us have any clue what on Earth it could've been, but apparently Paterno just put coaches on his s*** list for whatever reason, and CFB made it there. And once you're there, Paterno wasn't gonna do you any favors by scheduling an OOC game with you. Weird, I know, and stupid if true, but it would explain why we never saw the iconic Beamer vs. Paterno matchup.

Awe, Shucks I wish we could play Bull in the Ring!

I heard Britney Spears was coming to Blacksburg to sing Enter Sandman before the Spring Game. Everyone grab your tickets before they sell out!

You're missing the point. Sure there are a lot of PSU and VT alumni east of the Appalachians but it stops there. If we schedule a series with a midwest B1G team we get our normal east coast draw plus the midwest draw of whatever school we play. That means two regions and more TV exposure which I'm sure is a major goal of all of these OOC games we are trying to schedule.

Mentioned it on twitter, but I bet they could stuff an extra game into FedEx if they wanted to as well, since both us and PSU have played neutral site games there before.

A few thoughts:

  1. I'd like this matchup. I don't like PSU, and I'd like to beat them at football. Sorry, I'm not sorry. As others have said, it should have happened a while ago, because I doubt Frank will still be coaching in 2019 and JoePa is dead.
  2. What are the recruiting implications? Until Virginia Tech rose to prominence, Penn State fed on recruits from the Virginia Beach area. From their point of view, exposure in Virginia (and even DC, see game at FedEx) is huge for the future of their program. Tech is trying to recruit Pennsylvania more with the addition of Pitt, and the Hokies have pulled players from PSU's hands before (Kevin Jones). So I think both schools gain that additional regional exposure.
  3. As far as travel goes, it's extremely manageable / drivable. Less than 6 hours between campuses, and for those us in NOVA it's a 3.5 hour trip.

There are PSU alums everywhere, they have a great alumni base. My sister went there and one of my friends goes there now, aside from all the stuff that happened with Sandusky it's a great place. Went there for a game last year and their fans are extremely nice to everyone. If you haven't been there, Happy Valley is essentially Blacksburg except with a bigger downtown. I'd love to play them in a home-and-home and drive up to Happy Valley for a game.

This is a series that should have happened while Paterno was still at PSU. That would have drawn plenty of attention with Beamer vs. Paterno

Hopefully we can get Penn State on the books.

No need to schedule a series with Arkansas and Auburn, since those will be conference games by the time 2018 rolls around (fingers crossed). #VT4SEC

Does the Hokiebird compete with you guys? I'm sure its a stupid question, but I think I remember seeing cheerleading competitions in the past where the mascots are running around doing stuff. Also I'm at work and can't watch the video right now, but the Ball-Up-Stretch to Power-Press Arabian to Cradle. Back walk out of the Cradle to Full-Up Scorpion Double Downs sounds pretty cool.

Not true. There are a great deal of Hokies from north of the Mason-Dixon line, myself included. It'll have great appeal, I think.

It'll still be a better draw than PSU-LOLUVA
