I used to run the single wing as a center back in my playing days, and the sure fire way to shut it down is to keep the offensive line from getting a push off the ball. if Gayle an Co. can get a good jump, and Bruce and the boys can stick to their assignments and fill their gaps we should be able to do pretty well. The only thing I'm scared of is the Tajh-Watkins connection. could be trouble for us

That's why I'm my own boss. I decide what's safer for work, and this is required viewing!!! (and listening)
Michael, take you pick. Z left out #7...

Well here is the first of two installments. This is the sans-booze pick since I don't drink too often during the middle of my work day (I really hope my boss is not reading this). Anyway, I will do more normal ranting, raving and essaying tomorrow. I am sure .0001% of you actually read it since my post is usually the last. But I consider this therapy for me when I am drinking alone and watching a Friday night game on my Tivfaux. On to my first pick.

USF - I am now at .500 for the year. I want to stay there b/c I am just an average guy would you never notice unless I threw up on you after 14 pilners and 6 shots of anything. Sadly I will not be at .500 after tonight unless the refs from the Syracuse/Toledo game are the refs for this game with the 2.5 spread. Maybe a kick will fly high in the air and land on the crossbar and split in half, 3/4 falling over to the good side, 1/4 falling on the missed side. Stay tuned. Anyway, the way Pitt has played so far this year makes me think the Stache is the OC. They are atrocious on offense, like they have been for the last 5 years or so. Being at home won't help them and my namesake, Tino, will surely F this up. Until tomorrow...

Well I am back for the rest of my picks and really, really surprised that I am starting the weekend 0-1. Well all I can do is remain the same or improve, so here is to improvement and the last of my Edelstoff.

Arkansas - Like everyone else I have no clue. Both of these teams are hurting from the previous week. I look at this as a home game for Arkansas since some people refer to Dallas as Fayetville West. I grew up in Arkansas in my younger years calling the hogs and cheering against aTm. I will be doing the same tomorrow.

Auburn - Only b/c they are getting points am I picking Auburn. I don't think they will win but they are improving and SC is struggling as the favorite to win the SEC East. This goes against my normal rule of picking the team with the cheerleader/hottie shown by BCO but since I am trying to stay at 50%, I need to go opposite George here.

F Clemson - I hate VT games being on the pick 6 but I love us playing big games. We may win or we may lose, we may cover or we may not cover. I think F Clemson will win outright. VT has been unimpressive and boring so far this year. I know Tahj Boyd hasn't had a road start yet, but Cam, sorry I mean Logan Thomas hasn't had a big game either. The O'Cainspring experiment is paying dividends as our offense has been boring as hell. The coaches will not want LT to lose the game and Clemson will try to make him win it. LT needs to grow up really quick and I expect some picks and bad plays. Please prove me wrong. Our D will be severely tested. So rumor is they are putting in 18 hour days for this game. How about doing that for all the games, the trophy case is empty, dammit. Anyway the best matchup will be Hosley v/s Watkins. If Hosley can shut him down, we got a chance.

Alabama - The D is just too much. These QB's seem to be mirrors of each other so I have to give the edge to the better D.

Wisconsin - This is the Nebraska offense of old, I am talking pre Tommy Frazier. They can run but they can't throw. Wisconsin can run and throw and their QB can actually move around and either run or throw. This is a big line but I think Wisconsin at home can easily cover this and I am not sure Nebraska will even score 9. Welcome to the B1G, bitches.

These picks are brought to you once again by Augustiner Bräun Edelstoff. I finished my last one off and it will be on to a new pilsner next week. I am not sure what I will be drinking tomorrow as the pilsners have been rotating a lot of late, I am guessing Trummers, but it will be a game time decision. For some reason we are watching the game with Clemson alumnae, alumni, alumnus, or whatever you call them. I will try to be nice but I can guarantee you at some point my wife is going to tell me to settle down.

No Tweedy, Its WHIP!

Whiskey

Beer Double Heady Topper from VT

Unrelated, but to give you an idea how dominant the Hokies front 7 has been in the running game, Eddie Whitley has only made 13 tackles in 4 games, from the ROVER spot. Last year, it seemed like Exum, Morgan, and Whitley were in on every tackle.

I don't know if this team fits the mold, but Clemson for the last decade has been similar to the Al Groh "Super Recruit" teams. They scare the hell out of you on film, and then the Hokies hit them in the mouth and they wilt. The last couple of Clemson matchups, those kids quit real quick. Clemson lost 2 stud NFL defensive linemen, and I am not convinced that Florida State is that good on offense. There is ZERO excuse for the Hokies O not to put up at least 28 points.

This is a game that will hinge on the defense. They MUST hit Boyd and Watkins, and they must force Clemson to make mistakes. Either Tech can jump on them early and they fall apart like the last couple of Clemson teams, OR at least, take away the big plays, keep it close, and force the big mistake like last years (cough lousy cough) Hokie defense managed to do in ACC play.

And then, strap it on for North Carolina and Georgia Tech, because those are the two worst matchups for the Hokies on the rest of the schedule.

I agree. If the Hokies can stop the single-wing running game, that takes away much of their passing. Our secondary can lock down these receivers IF they don't have to help in the run game. I think Fuller will be the nickle corner covering the slot guy. Hill has been better at the field corner.

Exum is a bigger body to match up with Allen, but I am not convinced that he is a better matchup. Exum has struggled a bit in coverage this year. That being said, he has been worse lining up as a traditional safety where he has jumped routes that were covered to leave other guys open (see the first two plays of the only Marshall TD drive.)

I'm also seeing a lot of arrogance on clemson's part. i hope they are taking this game and a saturday night in lane stadium lightly. that being said, the hokies need to come out and fight hard for all 60 minutes

Both practiced in blue jerseys this week, but were left off of the injury report. Expect them to play. At what capacity they'll contribute, no one knows.

Please say you are serious..

Clemson, eh. I hate to pass off their success as just being lucky, but they barely beat Wotford, and beating Auburn was overdue- they only barely squeaked by against Utah State. Certainly Clemson will be the toughest yet, but they're going into Lane Stadium, LT's had four games to cut his teeth, and I think they're arrogant enough to think they can walk into the Commonwealth and waltz out with an easy "W". Long as the Hokies stay solid and don't make any mistakes, I think this one's in the bag.

We could certainly use him, especially if this into a shootout or we have to come from behind. Heard he was "iffy" but making progress..
