I know, I know. It's early, he's young, expectations should be realistic. BUT...... I just have my doubts. Aside from being a physical specimen and in general a huge dude, I am starting to question what he is bringing.

Yes he has a strong arm, but he doesn't seem to have touch or accuracy which are as important if not more. Yes he is mobile and likes to dumptruck smaller defensive backs in the secondary, but he doesn't seem to be fast, shifty, or elusive which are as important if not more.

He isn't a true freshman, has been with the team for a while now, and should be taking more of a leadership position.

The problem with having a guy like Tyrod for the last 4 years was that his ability as an athlete many times disguised what was otherwise lackluster and ineffective playcalling. When the play wasn't there, Tyrod just made it happen. When that "special" talent is gone, the deficiencies are that much more glaring.

I know that the grass is always greener on the other side. No doubt. We really need to see something though, and I mean soon.

have anything to do with it but as an alum spending money to go, get tickets, and be a part of the atmosphere you get more than disgruntled when down by 7 and fans are already complaining and think we've lost. Two kids behind me got in a fight over the Phillies bullpen. Then puked everywhere. We were only down by 14 going into the fourth. I just expected more of a fun experience I used to see by everyone. I can tell you though that we did a damn good job of packing the bars afterwards. So yes, spoiled and stagnant. My freshman year we were 8-5 and I saw more heart and fun by those around me than this famed night game.

I just felt like an asshole cheering by myself even early in the third. I dont want to feel awkward in my own stadium.

We haven't been able to move the ball in the second half.

7 Second half points against Marshall, 3 against Ark State, 0 on Clemson = BADDDDD!!!!

Someone please fix this!!!

Oh by the way, I was only watching on my couch for this game. I still wish i was there to support my Hokies. I can't tell you how upset and disappointed I was when they pointed out the fans leaving during the 4th qtr on ESPN2. I at first thought that they were showing a couple bad fans and making it seem worse than it was, but nope. I can't understand that, especially since we were only down by 2 TDs at that time. The game was very much not over yet. I can see why some people (including myself) were not impressed with our O-line and Punting but booing and leaving early are NEVER OK...

According to Beamer his injured shoulder affected the play calls.

Obviously it was enough of a problem to limit his running and deep balls. My question going forward is at what point do we let him heal up and give Leal a chance to play? I still contend LT3's best asset, until he develops into a more dependable passer, is his size and ability to run. A limited LT3 gutting it out is admirable, but might be worse for himself and the team then sitting out.

Made the changes.

If he's not going to change a punter with no leg, how can we expect him to change an offensive approach?

I just want to give my two cents about Logan Thomas. Yes, he has made some mistakes and not seen the correct read in passing routes. But, he is also a first-year starter and these are the growing pains with breaking in a new QB. It is disappointing to see an interception that could have been thrown better and been a big play, but to this point Logan is not making crippling mistakes that are putting up points on the board for the other guys.

It is hard to see the offense take a step back, but Tyrod was one of the best QBs that has worn the O&M. To think Logan would come in and continue exactly where we left off is foolhardy and people need to lower the expectations while he gets acclimated fully to the offense.

If we are still having doubts about Logan next year then come talk to me, but for now just give the kid a chance to learn and he will turn some heads down the road.

Also, it was maroon effect, why is he wearing orange? Yes it matters.

For 81 and 83 you put Corey Fuller twice. 81 obviously boykin. And 93 you mentioned Kwamaine Battle, even though he's been out all season with another ACL tear.

Otherwise a good job, something does need to be done about mixing it up offensively, everyone knows this already though except Beamer and Co

Elite teams expect to win every game. That's what it takes to be successful. Confidence. I think the fans, including myself, get really pissed off when games go the way the Clemson game went. Most of us travel for hours, pay hundreds of dollars and give it a 100 % effort to be as fired up (drunk) as possible for the game. I personally think it sucks when I look down on the field and realize I am more focused / fired up / happy to be here than SOME of the players.

I stayed till the very end... and I will continue to do so. But, Damn. its hard to cheer your ass off when it feels like the coaches are calling plays just to save face and get the game over with.

Hoping for a big bounce back next week.

Go Hokies!

10 win streak *should* be easy enough to continue. If we win the 4 games that we should be expected to (Wake, BC, UVA, Duke), then all we have to do is win 2 of: Miami, GT, UNC, ACCCG (assuming we make it), or bowl game.

Leaving early, whether we're up big or losing, is inexcusable. Leaving early causes you to miss things like TT's amazingness vs Nebraska (Thank God I don't know that from experience). People who leave early make me so angry... you don't deserve your ticket if you're going to pull that shit.

"And if it's 3rd and 1, Logan should be going for the dive 100 out of 100 times. I don't even want a fake dive pass. Dives every time. There's your Cam Newton comparison."

a truer statement has never been spoken. i would almost say 3rd and 2 should be dives 100/100 times, as logan falling forward has to be ~2yds. despicable that we can't get such small things right.

But there is no way the fanbase is to blame for this loss. Make all of the excuses you want, call a spade a diamond, call it anything you want but this loss comes from the coaching staff starting at the top.
In an age where college football has blown up before our eyes and dollars are the driving source of expansion, we have not managed to move forward. Are the fans spoiled? How could you ask that? Oh yeah we have had 10 win seasons, but when did it matter? The ACC is not the conference it was. As a fan, I would rather lose 8 games and beat the pants off of some contender twice a year than pretend we belong to something we dont. This week was the first game of the season, and we had four warm ups, the fans were ready, the players werent. And I am not blaming the players, not one. Come on, how do you get to 10 wins every year and not recruit a viable punter and in the same breathe be respected as a special teams nightmare. I havent seen that nightmare in a few years, adjustments have been made and there hasnt been one change made to counter that. Maybe the roots in my guttter are the likely nightmare.
Fans spoiled, the fans cried out- We have wanted change, this year we got some. Or at least it looked like that on paper. I liked the focus and motivation in game one, I got excited. For three weeks we puttered around, I thought we were waiting in the lurch, not giving too much for other teams to counter. Damnit Beamer, you did me again. Spoiled...If you look around the parking lots there is a lot of money flowing and the fans are motivated to turn the corner. If we would have lost by 2 points and gave a good fight, I am pretty sure you would have seen the monster within Lane. Your ears would have hurt, and you too would have felt like you were a part of the game come sunday morning. It sickens me when I feel like we left it on the field, whats worse is when it never made it to the field. This game was left in the locker room, maybe even in the posh facilities where it was all prepared.
I am tired of the CEO I want our Coach to step back on the field, maybe put another dent in that damn lunch pail as he kicks it through the uprights pissing fire.

I think we left 14 points on the field on those first two drives. We looked like we had an identity, a gameplan on offense on those drives. Then it disappeared. The energy, the confidence: gone. We are not a team that can play from behind as we learned. So we've got to execute better earlier in the game, and let Bud Foster do what he does remarkably well. This season is far from over. We are capable of getting to Charlotte in December and seeing the Tigers once again.

Well fellow hokies, I am in agreement with all that is being said here on the key play but, there is one thing that is not being said....either we are afraid to say it or being die hard hokie fans we refuse to see it. Logan Thomas is a good player and will become better as a quarter back as time goes on however, fellow hokies in the first four games against subpar opponents we did not display a solid offensive attack.( could it be the Q.B or the person calling the plays?) The play calling is predictable and the offense has become boring to watch. The fans in the stands are calling the plays before the ball is snap, so what do you think our opponents are saying. The opponents will have 8 in the box and we are still trying to run the ball..Hokie nation you can believe that every team will challenge L.T. to throw the ball down field and the only way to establish a running game is to open up the field. We must become aggressive ,with the go get them atittude on offense and feed off of the intensity of the defense. We need to get it togehter and get it together now! We are all hoping for a speedy recovery for A.Hopkins. We need a solid player with experience to fill his large shoes. My first option would be to excerise the thoughts of the coaches in early spring and place J.R Collins in the tackle position because you have two up and coming Defensive Ends in Zack Mcray and Duan Perez-Means who can fill in the D/E position, by doing this you can still give the true freshmans Corey Marshall and Luther Maddy time to grow into the tackle position and get the experience and knowledge needed. Go Hokies!!

after a game that was hard to take many positive feelings from.

Wisconsin is the real deal. With an offensive line that big and a dominant offense, they will clean up in the Big 10 and easily be in contention for a National Championship berth, only because either LSU or Alabama has to lose once. Hokies are hanging on, but like you said, with a defense that good, hard to not keep them there. Offense is a few adjustments away from solidifying their spot up there. Stanford seems to be better than OKST and Boise in my opinion, but overall solid rankings. Also, not sure about the fighting Bill Snyders. Yes, they beat a ranked team at home and Miami on the road, but I'm not sure they are consistent enough. They beat Eastern Kentucky 10-7 to open the year. A good team that will be tested as the season wears on.

i'm seeing it pop up everywhere. hopefully official word this afternoon or tomorrow morning?

Rumor is we got Joel Caleb this weekend, even after the abysmal performance

You can't convince me that the crowd had anything to do with this loss. Yes, I agree that the fanbase has become spoiled, expects too much from the team, and isn't nearly as intimidating as we like to think, but what fanbase would have been screaming just as loudly in the 4th quarter down 3 scores with no signs of life being shown on the offensive side of the ball? I can't think of any.

It was a great article, I think the current students have lost perspective with the Hokies winning 10 games for 7 consecutive years. I find it interesting that how many people love the 2003 Miami game...but it was the highlight of a horrible November where we went 2-3 including our last loss to UVA and beating TEMPLE in OT by blocking a PAT. I was drenched after the A&M game, elated after Miami, then froze my ass off in Pittsburgh the following week. Even after this "worst" season in the past decade, we still finished 8-5 (losing to Aaron Rodger's Cal team in the bowl).

I can't believe all of the fans that left early as well. You gotta stay until the end of the game, no matter how ugly the result may be. We could be much worse this year. Only have to look up the road to Who-ville, College Park, Boston to see programs that are truly in trouble.

You are one of the most realistic UVA fans I have heard in recent memory. The Hokies lost one game to a quality opponent in our conference. Things could be much worse, as they are in Hoo-ville or College Park!
