watching 1st qt now. observations
first Wilson carry of the game, there is a huge hole to cut left, and he cuts right, right into a safety. Boykin's guy made the tackle when he wiffed on the block. Terrible throw way behind Davis on 3rd down, but he was the right guy to throw to on the play.
the long completion, Fuller should not have bit. He had no help over the top, and James Gayle dropping to cover the flat on a zone blitz
they way Collins pursued the RB, I have to think Collins had dive, and JWG/Exum had the QB, but JWG got blocked and Exum didn't react quick enough
great playfake, blocking, and throw by LT3 to Coale
1st and goal, good surge by the OL but Joey Phillips doesn't find the playside backer
2nd down Becton and Drager double the end, who stunted outside. The playsidr whip run blitzes into Becton's hole and makes the tackle on Wilson. Has to be a bust on Becton. Brooks even got the backside LB. Should have been an easy TD
3rd and goal Nosal pulled, the Ark St defender got underneath him and plugged up the hole where the play should have gone. Scales guy dove inside. Wilson could not have bounced it, because Phillips was turning his guy out and he had leverage. Logan has to make a better throw on 4th down, even under pressure.
JWG did a great job of jumping the bubble route on the play that resulted in the safety
2nd down counter with Oglesby, there was an extra guy in the box. Everyone got their block, the RB has to beat the lesser defender.
On the Randall Dunn drop (great play by Thomas), my guy Andrew Miller was totally fooled on the stunt by the defensive tackle.
On the touchdown throw to DJC, LT3 checks out of what looks like a running play to throw the bubble screen. Great recognition by Thomas and a great block by Danny Coale. Logan has looked better on film so far than in person.
Derrick Hopkins is good. Really good. Taykir also had a nice open field tackle on Aplin on a open field rollout. Gayle seems to be getting blocked more even setting up wide than what we saw the first two games.
I love the addition of play action on the veer read option action. Coale made a great catch, but he wasn't open. Nobody was open. How did they not bite?
Becton slow on the snap again on 1st and goal. Mass confusion in the backfield. Eric Martin also looked like he had one of Beer Control's special brews on that play. On 2nd and goal, Becton didn't get off his combo block on the DT to get the second level guy, and his guy tackled Wilson. Miller also combo blocked the other DT, but didnt come off to get the backside backer, who got a hand on Wilson's ankle. Still, would Darren Evans run him over? Would Ryan Williams left him grabbing air on a jump cut? On the TD, great throw to Coale, but boy it looked like it was a potential ball that could be picked.
McCray with a fantastic play pursuing from the backside on 1st down, while AHop fills his gap. Chris Hill has not blown a coverage in 3 games. McCray again gets in the backfield.
80. George George - I WANT MORE GEORGE GEORGE RECEPTIONS.
Truly the highlight of the game
But, how do you determine the conference championship teams? One is undefeated and 3 have one loss, who plays?
The good thing is that it could work out to 11 conf games, 3 "in" pod plus 2 whole other pods. But, you could get to 7, and only see certain teams every 3 years. We already don't play in Byrd stadium enough to my liking, but waiting once every 6 years to visit is too long.
If it's 4-team "pods" I'd rather see playing all the teams from your pod and one team from each other pod each year (though that would only be 6 conference games as opposed to 7 and a 4-year rotation as opposed to 3). Then again, it would make finding 2 teams to play in the ACCCG easier (whoever is best out of the 2 pods that play each other). If it were geographic pods though, then you could have a real state of NC championship... but then we couldn't win it every year.
The one thing I really don't like about 16 is that it seriously ruins some of the rivalries that have popped up/been around since the Big East... us vs Miami? probably down the drain. GT-Clemson would probably survive, but us vs GT would go down the drain (not necessarily a bad thing standings-wise, but a total bummer). Tobacco Road pod? Nice rivalries there, but Duke and Wake rolling over and exposing their throats makes it a bit easier for UNC and NCSU. At least BC won't be lonely anymore...
Do you think realignment is going to happen at 14 or will Cuse and Pitt be added one to a side, playing each other as their annual crossover (assuming we don't hit 16 before they get to play)? Will there still be an annual crossover? Some people are saying they join as early as next season.. is the Big East actually going to let them go that fast?
i hate that awful city and that awful school and its awful wv"u"-lite fanbase. ugh.
acc was a move in all the right directions, so far as fanbases with somewhat of a sense of class and respect. not liking this move. be sure to bring your tarps to away games folks, the bottles of urine will come a-flyin
From @DarrylSlater he indicates Jim Weaver has given this some thought:
"Jim Weaver's early scheduling model: 6 division games, 1 permanent crossover, 3 other interdivision, 1 BCS non-league, 1 lesser non-league."
Darryl Slater also tweeted, "Weaver is for 10 ACC games because he thinks non-conference guarantee games (i.e. Appalachian/Arkansas State) are getting too expensive."
I like increasing the number of league games from 8 to 10. That would certainly help to make the ACC not feel like two separate conferences. I also like throwing out some of these non-AQ and AA teams. A big non-league BCS opener followed by an ECU then right into league play would certainly be better than this year's 4 week long training camp.
I'm thinking some of it has to do with the power LT3 puts behind his passes. They come alot faster than Tyrod's and it takes an adjustment. That said, we still shouldn't see as many drops as we do. It's a mental thing, they just need to emphasize it in practice. Hopefully it stops by the Clemson game.
1. It wasn't the fastest 37-yard gain, but I'll take it.
2. Why, because he's white? Just kidding. Coale had a monster game.
3. I, too, want to see the ball in LT3's hands much more. I think we'll see more and more of it.
There's really no excuse. I expect more out of what should be the most talented position group on the team. I will say that I see some pretty good blocking on the outside, which is nice. But everything just has to be cleaned up. We shouldn't be talking about mistakes from the WRs.
I have heard multiple rumors/ideas/solutions that will make conference play as exciting as it could be given the circumstances if a 16 team conference evolves from all this madness.
Four groups of four teams. Similar the the NFL... go figure. Each year you play your group of teams (determined by geographics i suppose) then you rotate playing the other groups of teams each year. Theoretically, a student that comes in as a freshman will see their team play all other ACC schools at least once by the time they are a senior.
I know a good bit about football but am lost with some of the mechanics. Anyone able to give a go as to why we're seeing so many. We touted our Receivers going into the season and seeing the likes of "wide open" im still drinking the kool-aid. However, some of these seem inexcusable. Dunn shouldnt have but Ill take caution on inexperience and scales catch was tough on that fourth down conversion. Does equal blame land on LT and the corps or are some of our guys just not executing?
I agree with most sentiment above that adding PITT and the CUSE gives us stability and the opportunity to keep winning ACC titles. However, I am disappointed with the Big ACC for a few reasons.
First with 14 or 16 teams in the league there will be two divisions and each team will play 7 or 8 divisional games with only 1 or no cross-over games. That means more mediocre football in Lane. Sorry, but I just don't get as pumped up to see VT give teams like Duke and Wake Forest a beat down as I do to have FSU or Clemson come strolling in to town. (See 6PM kickoff vs. Clemson in 2 weeks). I already feel like we don't get to play FSU, Clemson, NC State enough.
Also, I'm concerned that we will get stuck in the ACC north with BC, Cuse, Pitt, Terps, VT, UVA, (UCONN, Rutgers, or other crappy Big East Team). The reason I was so excited to get out of the Big Least is because most people in the North East don't care as much about college football. College Football is life in the south and I was super excited to get more of it in the ACC. With the addition of Pitt and Cuse, I feel like we are going to get pulled back out of it. Hopefully they just add Pitt to our division and Cuse to the other. (I would use Atlantic and Coastal divisional names, but who knows which one we are in.)
I always loved this one...
A few months ago, the Big East came close to a nine-year television extension through 2022-23 with ESPN, which, according to CBSSports.com, was worth $110 million to $130 million annually. That's right, led by the football schools, the Big East walked away from $1 billion. With NBC rebranding Versus as NBC Sports Network, with Fox still in the hunt, with ESPN everywhere, Marinatto is gambling he can drive that price up higher in 13 months.

The Big East left ESPN's offer on the table, the ACC is banking on getting a real big piece of that pie, probably much, much more if they can get ND on board.
1. Word from the coaching staff is that they've asked George George to run the 40, just to get a time on him for future reference. They're currently still waiting for him to finish. (Guy went to my high school where his mom's an English teacher, of course I'm going to rib him.)
2. Danny Coale : Virginia Tech :: Wes Welker : New England
3. Why aren't we running the option on every 2nd down? Why can't we run a spread like New England? Did Stinespring hijack the frequency between O'Cain and the field during play calls on Saturday? Didn't Shane bring a copy of Spurrier's playbook with him from SC? Why aren't we using more of that?
At the AK State game he was sitting about ten rows down from me for a little while. He's actually a fairly big (tall) dude. He had on a hokie colored hat with a diamond on the back.
I always loved this one.

That crazy hokiebird!
3 LOLs.
I was accidentally talking to a student at WVU this past weekend (he is a senior, called him self a huge DubV football fan, but didn't know what the Black Diamond Trophy was...)
He is scared shitless over going to the SEC. He understood that even though everyone in the entire state of West by Golly Gee Wiz is naturally born an fan of the Mountaineers..they will never have the funds, recruiting advantages or facilities needed to compete at that level.
Point will be proven this weekend when LSU comes to Morgantown... heck, the LSU fans are probably pulling into campus right now as I sit in my cube.
The odds of WVU becoming irrelevant on the national level is very likely. Glad that's not us to be honest.
Bring on that big Orange-headed Mascot!

another view of the fly over. not sure if you all can see it or if you have to be a friend of a friend or something, but it's a sick view of the flyover from the pilot's pov.
So I didn't think about the bottom line until reading some articles this morning. This move will probably mean more TV revenue for the ACC schools as well. I guess the addition to the conference allows for a restructuring of our ESPN TV contract, even though we're only in the 1st year of a 12 year deal. Each school already gets $13M/yr and this number should be going up. The big reason (which i just realized) is that the market now extends into PA and NY (especially NYC due to Syracuse alum).
One more thing, So the issue with Texas' Longhorn Network... I just read that they their deal with ESPN will pay the school $300 million over the next 20 years, that's "only" $15M/yr. Not really that much more than all of the ACC gets by default already. But is this in addition to what they would get from the conference's TV contracts? Why would they need their own network if there could be a much improved "ACC Network" instead? No idea what i'm talking about...
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but how would you rate the ACC ability to lure away a B1G or SEC school like USC, UK, or Penn State? I'm just wondering if its even slightly above 0%, because if it is then Swofford should have them on the phone so he isn't forced to get Rutgers and UConn next.

The commentators were so funny when they were talking about him... definitely awesome.
