The schedule lines up pretty well with work holidays if you're looking to extend some of these weekends, especially for the trip down to ATL.

Monday, September 5 Labor Day (Appy State)
Monday, October 10 Columbus Day (Miami)
Friday, November 11 Veterans Day (@GT)
Thursday, November 24 Thanksgiving Day (@UVA, as per usual)

Sept all easy wins
Clemson - Win, Tajh Boyd is 1000% overrated
Miami - will be better than anyone else thinks(mainly because whipple's gone), especially if they commit to running the ball - L
Wake Forest - easy win - went to wake in 2004 was a great time, highly suggest it for anyone in the blacksburg area
Boston College - They'll be better, but an easy win
Duke - easy W
Georgia Tech - game will be closer than it should due to being a Thursday Night, but a W
UNC - W in the closest game of the season
UVA - W by 30, would be by more but Beamer pulls the dogs off

So even though I think we go undefeated in the regular season I think we go to the ACCCG and lose to FSU. Bowl game we play in the peach bowl against a top SEC squad in USC/Auburn/Alabama/Florida and hopefully get a big time win. I would be completely happy with the season if that came to pass.

Despite the successes VT is still a tough sell. SEC schools don't need much help. Is it the school or is it the coaching staff that makes the difference? I am hoping for the best but not sure if we have enough to offer. If we run the table this fall we can show we are a force despite losing so much offensive talent. Trouble is we don't show enough flash and pop (on offense mainly) for today's flashy players. The defense speaks for itself. Shane may help a little on the recruiting but it may not last for long.

September 3rd - APPALACHIAN STATE - W
September 10th - @East Carolina - W
September 17th -ARKANSAS STATE - W
September 24th - @Marshall - W
October 1st - CLEMSON - W
October 8th - MIAMI - W
October 15th @Wake Forest - W
October 22nd BOSTON COLLEGE - L
October 29th @Duke - W
November 10th @ Georgia Tech - W
November 17th UNC - W
November 26th at Virginia - W

I can't pick us to go undefeated. So if I am going to get the reverse jinx going early I might as well start the mojo against Boston College. Anything less than ten wins against this schedule will be a disappointment. The trip to GT worries me, but as was pointed out they are rebuilding and haven't brought in any big name talent under CPJ. The bowl game will either be the Peach or Orange Bowl. UNC should be a stout team, but I can't envision them winning in Blacksburg on a Thursday night again. I wonder if the ACC sending them to Lane at night is a slap on the wrist for all the trouble they've caused the league.

I've already booked rooms from Clemson, Miami and UNC.

From the fan's perspective I really love this schedule. The odd numbered years are just so much better than the even for us because of the way our conference games flip-flop. BC, UNC and Miami at home are infinitely better than GT and UVa.

The only thing that kind of concerns me is that it's too easy. I look at it and I'd be disappointed with anything less than ten wins. People are saying the schedule is set up to be ran. Those are lofty expectations for a team that's losing a 4 year starter at quarterback, two NFL running backs and that's still not proven defensively.

this schedule excites me far more than last years did (excluding the boise state game). all the road games are easily drivable from blacksburg, and the home schedule is WAY better than last years. clemson and miami are virtual locks for a 3:30 kick or later, which we only had one of last year, (wake, excludiing the thursday night game against GT of course), and the BC game always has a chance at a later kick as well. @ecu is a fun trip, as is @GT, and @wake @duke and @uva are virtually hokie home games, which is also very fun. im also excited to go to the @marshall game, just to check out a new stadium/scene. should be a lot of hokies there as well. then the acc championship in charlotte??? #BOOM im psyched

But now I am worried that we MIGHT with the way it is scheduled. And then what will be waiting for us if we do? Being left out aka 2004 Auburn? Smacked down by a superior opponent (too many VT aka's for that one)?

Or will our O-line finally gel, front seven start plugging the middle again, and DWilson hold down the fort another year?

I'm not going to start the hype, just analyzing I swear.

I had a work deadline and have been cranking away for the past 2 days, just saw this on my smartphone Facebook stream. Made my night!

Althought Hite would not have been my first choice, this could be the first step in the right direction of everything we've been blogging about the past few weeks. I'd be surprised if we didn't see an immediate impact on the quality of our class, we now have some young coaches with major street cred.

I agree. This could defiantly be an early indication on how Frank makes his way out, maybe paving the way for Shane to come in. If Foster ends up to leave for a BCS gig I expect Torian Gray to come in and be a great D-Coordinator. The way Torian shut down the UNC offense with the defensive scheme he came up with, reassures me that we are in great hands. I personally think that Torian will be a great HC someday. Shane will provide a young face that recruits can relate to, and will be great change for a very stagnant staff. I just hope expectations aren't to high for Shane to recruit immediately. It may take some time for him to get adjusted. I also don't want to leave out Coach Hite, it was a great run and he did a lot of great things for the program. Hopefully he can settle down now and watch his son play some ball in college.

I'm glad he is coming back and hopefully he can land some awesome recruits for us in coming seasons. However, this leads to some real big questions about who's going to be the Head Coach for the 2017 season. Bud Foster is no longer the shoe-in candidate. Makes me wonder if Foster will leave before then for his own BCS HC gig...

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer announced Monday that longtime assistant Billy Hite has been elevated to a new administrative position as assistant to the head coach and senior advisor, and that Shane Beamer will join the Tech coaching staff and assume Hite’s on-field duties as running backs coach.

“Over the years, I’ve had great confidence in Billy’s judgment and advice,” Beamer said. “I appreciate the fact that I will continue to be able to rely on him in this regard. He will continue to be a valuable part of our football program and will be a real asset working with our alumni and former players in different ways.”

Hite, who has served as the Hokies’ running backs coach for the past 33 seasons, joined the Tech staff under former coach Bill Dooley in 1978. He remained on the staff when Beamer took over in 1987 and was named to the position as assistant head coach by Beamer the following year. He was promoted to the position of associate head coach in December 2000.

Hite has been on the sidelines for more Virginia Tech football games than any other coach and has helped produce nine of the Hokies’ top 11 career rushing leaders. The Hokies have averaged nearly 200 yards per game (195.0) over a 398-game span under Hite and developed 26 running backs who have gone on to sign with NFL teams, a number that is expected to grow with this spring’s draft.

“I would like to thank Coach Beamer and the athletic and university administrators for 33 great years as a coach at Virginia Tech,” Hite said. “I also want to thank all the people who are giving me the opportunity for this new challenge. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Shane Beamer comes to Virginia Tech after spending four seasons on the University of South Carolina’s coaching staff, coaching the Spurs and strong safeties for two seasons after coaching the outside linebackers in 2007 and the cornerbacks in 2008. He also served as the special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks’ program.

“I think we are fortunate to get Shane to come back to Virginia Tech,” coach Frank Beamer said. “He has had the opportunity to develop a good background, having coached at Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Mississippi State and South Carolina.”

Shane Beamer’s first class as the recruiting coordinator (2009) for the Gamecocks was ranked as the nation’s 12th-best class by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. South Carolina’s 2010 class included running back Marcus Lattimore, the No. 10 player in the country according to Rivals.com, and the 2011 class was highlighted by Jadeveon Clowney, the consensus No. 1 player in the nation.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to return to Virginia Tech,” the younger Beamer said. “I’ve been gone 11 years and during that time I’ve been around a number of great coaches and great programs and had the opportunity to learn a lot. Now, I look forward to returning to Blacksburg and helping Virginia Tech continue to win championships.

“I’m also excited to have the opportunity to be around Coach Hite. I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for him and I welcome the chance to learn from him.”

Prior to his stint at South Carolina, Beamer spent the previous three seasons at Mississippi State University, where he coached the defensive backs his first two seasons and the running backs in his final year, and was the recruiting coordinator all three seasons. Beamer went to MSU from the University of Tennessee, where he spent three seasons as a graduate assistant helping with the defensive backs; coaching the place-kickers, punters and long snappers; and assisting in all special teams areas. Beamer worked one season (2000) as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech, helping with the Yellow Jacket quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Beamer earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 1999 and was the Hokies’ starting long snapper for three seasons. He also contributed as a wide receiver. He played on four bowl teams and three Big East Conference championship squads. He concluded his college playing career by helping the 1999 Hokies to a No. 2 final regular-season ranking and a berth in the national championship game played against Florida State in the Sugar Bowl.

- Clemson has to face Auburn and Florida State at home before traveling to VT

- Maryland-Miami is the blockbuster ACC Labor Day game? Really? Someone else can at least sack up for opening weekend like VT has the past few years

- I really don't like BCS teams scheduling two FCS teams (NC State)

- UNC gets their bye before us

1) I just died a little inside.
2) I guess Logan Thomas will need a soft schedule....seeing as he saw little play-time before he actually had to BE a starter.

Sets up perfectly for Logan Thomas. I believe we had to go to Marshall as part of them coming here twice. Has to be one of the softest schedules in recent memory.
