As long as it wasn't pearls in their oysters
I think the world is big enough that some places look at the school, others look only at the number, and some only look for the fact-of having a degree.
I do have a name and phone number if you can't find someone else. He comes to you and does general boat repair and engine stuff, but I know he also does some trailer work. I don't know where he lives, but it's at least semi-local to Mathews, so not that far from Lancaster. I can be reached at newriverangler at that hotmail thingee. I know little about him, but like about anyone these days, he ain't cheap.
We wouldn't have this as bad of a problem if we hadn't abandoned the divisions... UVA would still be there, the question would be who they play depending on how SMU and Cal got allocated... This could be UVA vs. SMU (8-4), UVA vs. Cal (7-5), or it would fall to UVA vs. Clemson (7-5). Still ugly from a record standpoint, but UVA vs. SMU looks a lot more appealing.
Not feeling this take at all. As somebody that has hired hundreds of folks I always look at the school because a high GPA at a "directional Michigan" is barely worth the paper it is printed on. However, graduating from a school that has high academic standards does in fact mean something. I have brothers that went to "directional michigan" and they didn't attend class for most of their school days. I have kids that are in VT engineering and they barely see the light of day but they will graduate with ready to apply job skils. So, when people are looking at a team's "resume" I believe very little weight is given to blowing out nobody teams but wins over big time programs, even by a small margin, carry much more weight. My two cents.
Exactly. I admit my first reaction to the idea of hiring Franklin was a soul emptying "NO!!!!!", mostly due simply to his association with Penn State (you will have a hard time finding anyone who despises that place more).
After his Gameday interview (which was impressive), after TKP bringing the facts and explaining the benefits of hiring him, and now after this recruiting bonanza, even I will now admit it is an ideal hire for us.
Good thing the ACC went all in on basketball at the expense of football, right?
Yeah, but in the Transfer Portal era, you have to consider how many of these guys they can even keep?
The rumor has been that both WVU and UNC were throwing bags of cash around in the past couple days and both signed massive classes.
They signed 39 guys....by a quick review, looks like 5-6 who would be slotted to play CB....when it becomes obvious by year one who the top 2-3 are, do you think the others are gonna Stick around??
The other thing I note is that they signed quite a few guys for the Northeast, CA, FL, ect. So when guys like Fran Brown and Deion come calling after next year with the "come back home" message, I bet they lose even more.
With better QB play, they should be more competitive next year but I have very little concern that UNC long-term is going to become any type of Playoff Contender.
In the end, they are run by a bitter old coach who is more interested in being spiteful than helping himself (the whole no Drake Maye on Socials) and a coaching Staff that is equally fueled by ineptitude and Nepotism. Add in a trophy girlfriend who is a constant distraction and a discord between the Athletic Department and Booster base on whether they even want him there and you have a Hindenberg waiting to happen there.
What are they going to call it.....The Upside Down?
That sounds like a really bad idea, but hey, what do I know?
Much improved vs last season.
I mean.....who hasn't.
Not the breaking into, but the getting plastered before passing out in the bathroom part.
Ah, freshman year.
no disagreement and I think there are tons of ways to compare teams with no dorect data, so its all guess work st dome point.
That's probably why it's called Resume rankings. Resumes are designed to showcase your strengths and hide limitations. Some employers, when looking for college grad hires are focused on GPA. If you have a 3.8 GPA from VT in engineering you might get passed over for some kid from directional Michigan school because they have a 4.0. Employers aren't going to care about your "strength of schedule". They're going to see 4.0>3.8 and go from there. On your resume, style points matter.
Beating a bunch of losing teams by a average margin of 30 points is going to look more impressive on paper than beating winning teams by a margin of 3. Is that fair or an accurate representation of how good the teams actually are? Probably not. But that's kinda how resumes work. I think it's an apt name.
The croots signed on with a yogurt company.
I see Deboer and Daboll a lot. While I think the former is unlikely, I also recognize that more-saban, it was not unheard of for a coach to leave bama after a good run.
If Daboll is the hire... wtf are you waiting for?
the bkkak/lsu drama
Cannot unsee "bukakke LSU drama".
I think this is true.
GT just recently decided academics for athletes is not important and seeing benefits on the field under Coach Key.
Unc has been doing this FOR DECADES. Classes are for losers.
It might be like that top 5 Tennessee sighed under butch jones where s think only like 3 started amd they were in the bottom 5 of that class. Maybe the top players are not rated accurately and they just take numbers to look good. I mean they've out recruited us for a while but how many of there players would you really want to have at VT. is there a defensive player we would have wanted? They've been terrible for a decade on defense. we might have wanted linebacker not because they were amazing but because mediocre is an improvement for us. Sure Sam and Drake were good QBs and they have had a couple skill players that were good but overall there haven't been recruiting g battles lost that really hurt 4 years later because they didn't pan out at unc.
A couple issues based on his ratings verse what i saw from the work I did:
Running up the score helps you for the Resume Ratings, which needs to be accounted for for certain aspects but tells a different story. Using the whole schedule doesn't make sense for that. If a top 5 team would beat okst would predictively beat OK state by 45 points and you only win by 28 because you put in backups then your not top 5 so you dont get credit, but its OK state, After 3 scores who cares how much some one won by, they suck, you should win A win no matter by how many points isn't impressive. In addition, blowing out bad teams can get you more points than beating good teams
BYU is 14th, yet they have more wins over winning teams than every not named Ohio State. Because they are not beating teams by enough they are lower than teams that scored better against losing teams.
Miami vs OU is a good example, OU has beating more teams with a winning record yet Miami which is hanging its season on the ND game is rated higher because they did better in scoring margin against teams with losing records.

1) its there job, they are paid to fo this.
2) you can show potentisl employers that you did your job when your future is unclear which happens all the time in football
ironically i found this origin comment last. leg for the commitment

Still have tomorrow. Ladies have 8-1 Florida coming to Cassell. Florida lost a headscratcher to Navy by 15 but won by double-digits in seven of their eight wins.
They are 2-0 against the ACC with wins over FSU and GT. Sophomore Guard Liv McGill is in the conversation for Womens Player of the Year. She is putting up 26.3 ppg, 5.6 reb, 6 asts, and only 5'9.

I've said for years (since the beginning of the academics scandals)...why aren't they better?
