Potential ACC teams???

With Texas A&M heading to the SEC, WVU on the radar to follow and Virginia Tech claiming allegiance to the ACC, I started a discussion over email with a couple of buddies. I thought I would share my original response and get reactions from others.

Academics are such a huge factor in the ACC. According to US News, every ACC school is in the top 70 nationally accept FSU at #104 and NC State at #111. The ACC may take one team outside of the top 100 but I would be shocked if they take more. Here are my top 5 targets and their academic rank:

#19 Notre Dame

#55 Syracuse

#64 Rutgers

#64 Pitt

#69 UConn

In all likelihood, we can land 3 of those at best. I don't see Notre Dame coming to the ACC. So, say we get Syracuse, Pitt and UConn, that means we look outside of the top 100 academically for a 16th. That leaves #132 Temple, #156 Cincinnati, #176 Louisville and #183 USF. Any of those teams are a stretch in academics and even in athletics as a whole. If we can possibly land Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt and UConn, we would be able to do a North/South divisional breakdown with the divisions looking like this:

North

BC
Maryland
UConn
Rutgers
Syracuse
Pitt
UVa
Virginia Tech

South

UNC
Duke
NC State
Wake
Ga Tech
Clemson
Miami
FSU
