TKP Community Interview: Harry Lewis

Virginia Tech Hokies football, basketball, athletics blog and forum featuring: unique columns, breaking news, film studies, in-depth analysis, recruiting, videos and jokes.

Phoebus standout Harry Lewis was the Hokies' second defensive line commitment of the 2015 recruiting cycle (Michael Barnett verballed, but decided later to open up his options). Defensive tackle and end are two positions of need the Virginia Tech coaches are looking to address this recruiting class. Lewis' verbal, and the one from Eric Whitehead a week later, has Tech positioned well to replenish talent along the defensive line.

Today is the first, of what will hopefully be many, TKP Community Interviews. Y'all asked Harry questions, voted on which ones to pass along, and Harry was generous enough with his time to answer them.

What was the most appealing aspect of Virginia Tech that made you want to commit to Virginia Tech? — etch21

HL: They were really big on family. They want you to be as successful as you can be, and want you to be the best you can be. I love that they have family day for your family to come see you.

In your own words, how would you describe the recruiting process? — HokiesFTW123

HL: The recruiting process was fun when I was young in freshman and sophomore year, but my junior year it got hard because I had to really start to think about where I wanted to spend my years in college at.

How involved was your family in your decision to commit to Virginia Tech? — arnie3959

HL: My family was a very big part of my decision. We talked for hours about schools, and did research on them to see the graduation rates and how their academics measured up.

In 10 years, what do you want to be able to look back on your time here and say? — The Beard of DeChristopher

HL: I would say first that I was blessed. It was nothing but God who put me in this position to get a free education, and my family who motivated me to be the best I can be.

I would see myself probably working in the communications business traveling and seeing new talents.

Do you have a preference on what position (DT vs DE) you'd want to play in college? — HokieJoe3

HL: I'm playing defensive tackle at VT. I've always loved playing d-tackle since I was a little kid.

Are there any teammates or other players that you are going to try to recruit to come to VT? — HokieJoe3

HL: My cousin Tyquan Wilkins wants to come here. He is a star wide receiver for the Hampton Crabbers. Hopefully I get him here so we will be on the same team, instead of playing on different teams like high school.

My question would be, from a systematic standpoint, what about the techniques incorporated by the Virginia Tech defensive scheme most appealed to your skill-set and style of play? And, if you had to sell other recruits on attending Virginia Tech, what are the qualities of the University (academics, atmosphere, room and board, community etc.) that you feel are the best reasons for selecting the Hokies as their college destination? — french60wasp

HL: Our defense is close to VT's defense, so it would not be that much of difference to me. I love their defense and how they use their hands.

As for academics, the opportunities in the communication program for internships will allow me to get my name out in that branch of work.

Are there any particular schools you are looking forward to playing? — RealDiehl

HL: I would like to play ODU.

Pie or cake? — petebuddywilson

HL: I love me some homemade cooking, mama's apple pie.

I would like to put my family name out there because without them I wouldn't be who I am today: my mom Latica Lewis, my dad Harry Lewis Jr, my sister India Lewis, my grandpas Harry Lewis Sr and Stanley Jerry, my grandmas Barbara Lewis, Dorothy Rose, Renaldo Jerry, and Stella Corbin, my uncles Ramel Lewis, Thorman Jerry, Curtis Futrell, Alvin Robinson and Jaason Whitaker, my aunts Scheera Whitaker, Stacy Cooper, Tonya Williams, Pat Jerry, Debbie Jerry, Belinda Jerry, Deione Jerry, Dominique Jerry, and Danielle Jerry.

That's my family who supported me from the beginning.
