The Virginia Tech Athletics Department and head coach Justin Fuente announced that the 2018 Spring Game is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at Lane Stadium. Admission to the Spring Game is free.
So wanted to get this going so people can make plans and share them or ask for favors.
Other events that weekend.
The 2018 Spring Game will be followed by the grand opening celebration for English Field at Union Park, the home of Virginia Tech baseball. The event will include a special pregame ceremony prior to head coach John Szefc and the Hokies facing ACC rival Louisville at 7 p.m. Fans attending will receive commemorative giveaways and will be treated to a special postgame show. The Hokies will also play host to Louisville at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 13 and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.
Other events on campus the weekend of the 2018 Spring Game include the 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance on April 14. This community run/walk throughout the campus of Virginia Tech strives to bring fellow Hokies together, to feel the support of the community, and to celebrate the lives of our friends and family members. Registration for the run will open in February. Tech's men's tennis squad also plays host to VCU at noon on Sunday, April 15.

I have a group tailgating in the Lane Stadium Lot
Cassell Lot right across from West Ambler Johnston Hallalong a strip of grass/sidewalk on Beamer Way. We should be starting around 8 or 9 am.I made a 4% dry hopped saison for it. Anyone is welcome to stop by and have a beer! I'll try to wear a TKP shirt.
Edited to update location. Thanks wasknick for the info!
I'll be up there for the game and I'll try and stop by at some point!
Had to change the location to the Stadium lot, but looking forward to catching up! I'll be in a TKP shirt
I think you forgot the Devyn Ford commitment announcement...he is on his official to us that weekend. At least a guy can dream, right?
Devyn Ford Fatheads for the Spring Game?
I'm thinking about making the trip up since we are moving so far away this summer. I'll find out later tonight. Only other time I went to spring game was with entire family so didn't get to see a lot prior to the game.
you can ride with me! #TPKroadtripppppp
I'm still in Myrtle Beach till Juneish.
Don't know why, but this comes to mind.
Not as good as the original, but still good. Fun fact this is based on Grand Haven, Michigan that I live 30 min from
The spring game is finally on the same weekend as the 3.2. I could never justify making two trips in back to back weekends so I'd just do the 3.2 every year. I encourage everyone tailgating to take a break to check out the 3.2. Even if you don't run/walk it's still great to hang out on the Drillfield and watch people finish.
Is there a link to the event?
https://www.recsports.vt.edu/announcements/2017-18/RemembranceRun2018.html
Thanks. Have to see what my schedule and arrival will be.
I'll be running
So was waiting to see if I won this tonight and I think I did.
So looks like I'll be at the spring game.
http://www.hokiesports.com/cws/
Can you take some friends?
Like 611 of them?
For a minute I thought they had all ended. I've got my eye on one of them, but it ends on the 22nd.
There are some great ones. I am disappointed in the Beamer one, seems kinda anticlimactic for what it could be. If my oldest was at least 10 or older I would be bidding on that division 1 recruit for a day.
For anybody looking for the normal Lot 18 shenanigans, no I wont be there but it should be taking place as normal. Let's be honest though. I am just a pretty face and contribute nothing to society, so you don't actually need me.
I can update with details on where the group plans to set up. Usually, though, it is not actually Lot 18 for the spring game. Figure probably Litton Reeves or Chicken hill.
I've done the 3.2 for the past several years and combining that with the spring game, I fear that getting around Blacksburg is going to be quite difficult on this particular day.
Can someone give me some advice on parking? I've never been to a spring game and have decided to come this year. Would I need a pass to park in the lots around the stadium?
Not unless they have changed things up. Free parking, but come early or you are walking in.
Thank you!
I will be there taking notes.
I will be there drinking a lot of whiskey.
Playing to my strengths...
Anyone know if they're planning to stream it online or anything? Don't think the 2 month old is quite ready for a blacksburg trip
Almost certain that's a no.
Everything I have heard would suggest that it won't be televised. Which makes reviewing the event much more challenging.
Sounds a lot like an excuse. TKP harder, kid.
/sssssssmh
Haha she cries so much I like to think I'm just doing everyone in Lane a favor. Kids got a set of lungs
Is TV Teddy your nanny?
I wish. The only thing worse than living in North Dakota, is having to live in North Dakota with zero access to spring football. You folks keeping the updates coming on here, are doing the Lord's work.
This is a week earlier than usual no? I'll be at a wedding - bride is a Hokie and won't care if I'm checking my phone at least. Groom is a 'neer, and while he's a cool dude and a friend, don't give a damn if he tries to tell me to not follow on Twitter.
I'll be there, probably in Chicken Hill since that's what I usually do for the spring game.
Also, I purchased a parking pass from the school this year instead of Lions Club where I've been the past few years. Loved the location but started to get really overcrowded and the lack of sufficient johns leads to ridiculously long lines. So I'm likely coming over to Lot 18 to join in shenanigans, if that's cool and all.
I'm going for chicken hill and will find any Lot 18 regulars that will be around. My goal is to get there and crack my first beer by 9.
I'll be there early, probably in lot 5.
Look for the Chaos Mountain Brewing tent.
I'll try to find some TKP to setup with.
Do you work for Chaos?
Head Brewer Extraordinaire
Wasknick beat me to it but, yeah. I'm the Head Brewer there.
I try to bring short fills and growlers from work.
That's my favorite brewery, so by association, you are my favorite brewer! Also, love what yall have done with the place...much comfier now.
Ok, well, thanks.
Introduce yourself next time you are in.
Just ask for the Head Brewer.
The new taproom manager has done and excellent job with making it a little warmer. We're continuing to do things as the opportunity comes available. I'll pass on your comments.
Could you please brew a Coastal Chaos beer this year made with sea salt and sour grapes?
You are looking for a style of beer called a Gose. I'm not sure where to get sour grapes. The grapes I know are pretty sweet.
I'm doing one next month but with lime. It'll be a touch tart.
Not sure if my joke went whoosh, or you're making your own joke.
Kinda both.
Did you say Chaos?
Tom can you get in touch?
Mark
Yeah, it's a little late in the day today. I'll get in touch on Friday morning.
What color shirts are we wearing?
Now we're getting to the important details.
I was going to wear a white shirt π
I'll see myself out.

Depends on what section you're in. Check the map.
I was planning on going shirtless. #NekidEffect
No shirt. Orange and maroon TKP banana hammocks.
Damnit. Did I pick the wrong one to miss? Or did I pick the right one?
Yes.
I am going to make sure Heather sees this comment. That is one mental image that will take a lot of wine to get rid of.
I'm a no on the banana hammock. However, I might wear these:

Who am I kidding, I'm definitely dressing for day drinking that day π
Whoa. Do you actually own those?
I do. I wear them to work every Friday before a football game and make all the Tarholes down here super jealous. I will also wear them the day of a big basketball game. Everyone I work with loves 'em and is the only way I can get some VT gear to fit in the dress code at work. Winning all around!
They are quite fly and amazing.
I've been told I should warn potential dates about them. I figure between the shoes and attending VT sporting events, I'm just weeding out the weak π
Those shoes are awesome! I would totally wear those with the matching banana hammock.
How I imagine you entering the tailgate (except in O&M):

Those are pretty awesome. I would totally kill myself in them though? :-p
I work in finance, so heels are a daily thing, much to my physical therapist's dismay. Takes practice. A lot of practice. And about $30 worth of extra padding to make them comfortable. But I'm fairly certain they are magic. I wore them the day of the Duke game and the results speak for themselves!
I teach Kindergarten and may or may not be slightly uncoordinated.... Your heels are awesome, but I am more of a flip flop girl.
Trust me, I am a flip flop girl for life, winter and summer. But I can't wear them to work, so I might as well have some have some bling!
Accounting women have the craziest heels. Stacy said she has over 100 pairs of high heels.
Do they come in Steel Toe?
I've done a bit of research, and it appears you can get a "safety heel" but nothing cute enough that I would ever stick my foot in it. I've got standards.
I thought we we're talking about something I would wear? π
Trust, you don't want to put your foot in them either! They're that bad π
Update: THEY MAKE A BOOT!!!! I'm over here crying with want right now.
Ha! Maroon Swoon. Love the name.
I'm swooning over them, that's for sure.
*insert soon.gif here*
This is the exact gif I wanted. Are you spying on me?
No. However, if I were you, I'd go with a little more International exposure on that allocation that you're working on...
GTFOπ³
That and the Dr Seuss hat?
On top of the horse head mask.
Or a dancing Hokie head or mask (wait a sec-WTH!? I didn't sign up for this!!!).
If you are planning that outfit, you can't tailgate with us... You are trifling.
Heather?
Yep, she decided to join us idjits on here.
Adam be like

Nah, she puts up with mine and Hagy's nonsense offline so it isn't much different.
Yup it's me. Love how you picked that up so quickly. Figured I would join the craziness. :-p
Your loving comments of Hagy gave it away π
FAM:
I plan on still going to the spring game shirtless, exposing my delicate skin to the harsh cooker that is Lane Stadium. #WhiteOut #EnterWhite
Who Heather?
I'm glad the mental image of my attire is what prompted you to make an account here. My work is done.
Yes, your banana hammock achieved what I could not.
What makes this guy look the way he does?
It gets more impressive
I'm just disappointed that her TKP name isn't Danny Coale Is My Spirit Animal Is My Sprit Animal.
Adam said I need wine to recover from the first part of the image... I need more than wine... And as the "outfit" continued to become more elaborate, I need all the rum I can find, some white wine, eye bleach, and maybe even Everclear to get over that one.
Leg for eye bleach
That's the great thing about being a hairy ginger...still showing team spirit during #NekidEffect.
THANKS for that image! Really! /s
Here to help.
I see you're not a natural maroon-head...
Your name's not Ethan is it?
So I'm not sure, and neither are the people running it, what time I get to start my spring game experience so what should I do Friday night and Saturday morning? Also Saturday night? I'm staying in Hillsville so no drinking.
Friday or Saturday night you could hit creek bottom brews. Just down the road in galax. Decent brick oven pizza and wings. I prefer the original location to their new one. Either is good. Hillsville doesn't have a lot of food that makes me want to make the trip over there.
I don't mind driving somewhere to get something. As long as it's not too pricy.
How about a pilgrimage to Fancy Gap? Trip Advisor gives this place high marks: http://www.thegapdeli.com/?utm_source=tripadvisor&utm_medium=referral
What's wrong with drinking in Hillsville?
I've done some of my best drinking pretty much everywhere in Carroll County.
Drinking and driving is what's wrong with it.
I've heard uber is a thing
Uber drivers are a little creepy to me. At least, I've always thought so.
How many Uber drivers are going to be in Hillsville?
Anybody see the former athlete's reunion reception being hosted in the south end zone by Trey Edmunds (!?) After the spring game? Interesting way to get former players involved.
Going to try something: I won field pass for the spring game. If you are a member of TKPC and want to join me on the field prior to and during the game I want to try and bring someone. I only have one extra pass and want to reward TKPC members, I also want to enjoy the experience. So tell me if you would like to join me and why.
I want to high five bud foster.
Maybe if we all coordinate outfits, you could swap a bunch of TKPers in and out
I want to learn more about what goes into the Spring Game, the coaching aspect, as well as interact with other Hokie Club members and understand the importance of how it ties the program together and builds it [in short].
On second thought, I will be way too intoxicated. Take this guy ^^
But someone still needs to high five bud.
They never found any trace or remains of the last guy that he high fived. Reduced to nothing but vapor.
Redacted
so i have to ask.....did you redact a 3 year old comment, or did you reply to a comment that was 3 years old from a since-banned user and then realize that it was 3 years old and from a since-banned user and decide to redact it?
Redacted a comment that had an email in it that now my oldest uses for online school work.
Just a heads up, that comment still exists in archives such as the Wayback Machine, and the email address itself has almost assuredly been added to numerous spam lists. For those and other reasons, I would recommend creating a brand new email address for your child, since there is no expense incurred in doing so.
It's our dedicated spam account because as soon as we signed up for zoom and Microsoft teams for her she started getting spam addressed to her. Just trying to limit the amount in there.
Disclaimer: NO DRINKING, no talking to recruits.
I hear you, but what if recruits talk to you?
The rules didn't say.
Or better yet, what if they @you
Just don't @ them, bro.
I can't go, but would 'b/c I've never been to Lane Stadium' work for, or against me? That said, I would love to hear insights such as:
I am probably too late. Also they may not appreciate me scribbling in my notebook.
French I just emailed the him. If he wants to give it up I'm good. I just need to know who gets it by Friday morning. They didn't say anything about notes.
I appreciate it, but there is no need to push the issue. My situation got messy last night so I would be a bad bet. I should still be there, but if I can't I don't want to put anyone in a bad spot.
Is anyone from Raleigh making a day trip of the game on Saturday? If so, would you mind if I tag along? I've had all my shots, I don't talk too much, and I will never request to make a stop along the way. I don't promise not to judge you if you cruise in the left lane, however.
Isn't it assumed I'm one of the good guys? I have a diploma that says so and everything!
But have you had all your rails? Don't want to open too strong and fizzle out before the game.
I haven't. Haven't had one in almost ten years π±π±
Sounds like a great time to start back up.
See original comment, someone has to get me to Blacksburg first. One rail and I'm definitely in no shape to drive myself home.
Wait... We're doing rails for the spring game? Nobody told me. Well, I guess I am game.
Just remember to stop at two. Remember what happened the last time we tried three rails before a game? Because I don't.
I had 3 after a sharkey's long island and my GF sent me home for being "grumpy".
NO RAILS WITH MY SUPERVISION! YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL FALL OR COME TO CANCUN THIS WEEKEND
Nick-- You said "No rails with your supervision" Someone interpreted that as "Nick's not here to supervise, we should get rails"
I'm not going to name names but...

Glad you can point to your own name.
Despite the Typo it might be a better idea I stay away cause rails are gross. But I guess that's the point.
You bite your tongue. They are nectar from the gods.
Wrong. They are the disgusting, gross, bitter piss of Hades. And I have never said no to one.
via GIPHY
I think this is the most accurate description of rail consumption that I have ever seen.
Haha i love this gif to describe rails.
It couldn't be more wrong, but it still makes me laugh.
Last spring game I started with a rail at 11am. ''Twas a interesting day. Also TOTS buffalo chicken Mac and cheese is wonderful.
Was the mac and cheese amazing before or after the rail? It seems important we know this because your opinion may have been influenced by alcohol.
It was during the rail so I guess so? Not really sure. The chicken was actually the best part of the Mac and cheese.
Reminds me of a colonel sanders quote...
Me, thinking about day drinking with everyone in this thread on Saturday.
EVERYONE EXCEPT NICK. I hope you gave the bullwhip to Phil since you won't be in town to use it.
Nobody uses the whip besides me. It takes skill, and responsibility, and ten Busch lights.
There is a bullwhip at your tailgates? I've been missing out.
We have all kinds of randomness in Lot 18 (plus lots of yummy food). Come visit. We need more females to balance out these crazy trifling boys.
My sister and I will be making it to a few games this fall. We'll be sure to stop by!
You should. I am the one manning the grill or smoker and making the turkey legs. We also have a generator, TV, and satellite dish for watching GameDay and football before the game. Always lots of alcohol and food and music.
In the extreme case like for the Clemson game we had my smoker, a propane pizza oven, a flat top griddle, Nick's funnel, a pinata full of airplane bottles, and Danny Coale's spirit animal had his horse head mask (which he loaned out to the girl who hit the pinata). It was a blast.
Horse head mask? What, were you doing the Harlem Shake?
No he was just being drunk.
where is this and how do I sigh up to hang with you guys? lol. driving up from Jacksonville every game doesn't leave me a ton of space for all my tailgating gear.
In the fall we are at the Duck Pond corner of lot 18 near the creek along the road. Tomorrow we are going to be somewhere in the Chicken Hill lot (lot 5). Just come by.
ill swing by! I actually have tail gated with you guys before in the lot 18 spot. I need to start learning and remembering names and putting them with TPK handles lol
I still have problems with that.
Y'all can just call me Flippin. It even says so on my license. It's only the best name in the history of ever.
Perusing through this old thread after the news and suddenly this comment gains new relevance.
So, DCIMSA is taking your Flippin name? That's Flippin awesome!!!
You using the bullwhip in your banana hammock? This is going to be a spring game to remember.
Yikes. Don't want to think about where that welt will show up if he mishits the bullwhip.
It would serve his fool self right if he was trying to play Indiana Jones with the bullwhip while in the banana hammock and the Hokie heels. At least that would pretty much keep me out of TOTS with him and my husband.
I can't find anyone willing to spend the 7 hours required to get there and back in the car with me, which is crazy because I am delightful. Anyway, if I show up, y'all have to be my friends for the day π
Sure we will be your friends for the day.
Edit: We will even be your friends after the day.
How I greet all of my friends. It's good to be forewarned.
Leg for the Mass Effect gif.
Hmm...Mass Effect is life. And I have an entire folder of gifs from the first three games.
Ok then, I'll be your friend too.
Literally an endless supply ππ

Not appropriate?π€ π€·ββοΈ
I have to give everyone a leg for the Mass Effect gifs. Good work gentlemen
Check my icon...not a dude.
other contender, but I was afraid it would come across too strong:
In all honesty, that wouldn't be the strangest thing that has happen at our tailgates.
Very true.... Someone doing a funnel while wearing a horse head mask comes to mind. Along with some other shenanigans... It's always a good time in Lot 18.
Now wait a minute. Nobody is allowed to have any fun if I am not present!
You're the one who chose Cancun over us. It's only fair.
I didn't choose Cancun over y'all. I choose Cancun and then the dates came out. And yeah I would still choose Cancun hahahaha
Love y'all though!
It's not too late to change your mind and come have fun with the rest of us.

Dude keep your eyes open down there. They just had a pretty violent past few days.
We are at a closed resort so we should be fine. Been following it though. We won't be wandering.
Yea that was our plan when we did our medical trips down there each year. Stay at the community center. Then each year I was made security and runner chair. So I'd have to walk a nurse to the pharmacies when a patient needed something.
Funny story about Mexico, we could buy all kinds of medicine for cheap. But birth control including condoms cost 3-4x as much as here. It was weird.
I'm not sure that the married guy with 4 kids is a good source for contraception pricing data...
Ill just pack a case of my own condoms i guess...
I wasn't born married. Also we bought some stuff on US side and "forgot" we had it when we went back over. For example a single condom cost 4.75 in 2007.
That was 11 years ago...
We promise, no fun in lot 18 while you are gone.
Uh...I don't promise this at all.
See, he is using semantics to get away with shenanigans. No fun will be had in Lot 18 this weekend because technically Lot 18 is not open.
Dear Ambassador to Lot 18:
What kinds of cool things can I expect in this lot for tailgating this fall? Will there be beer? Do I have to present my key for a beer? Beer is good. I respectfully submit my application to party.
The TKP key is an excellent choice to open a beer anytime but, especially to make a scene at lot 18.
Not necessary but, preferred.
Other benefits:
Good food, good people, good beer, good conversation, good sitting, good standing, good vibes.
Ok, I know I'm replying to my own response but, I'm thinking that I'd be able to name a beer Lot 18.
Can anyone thing of a reference of 18 or lot 18 that could in any way be linked to evil, chaos, mountains, mayhem or general lawlessness?
Nick's picture should suffice.
Ok against the rules but had to LOL.
Or maybe audibly snort would be a better description.
I figured but it was too good of an opportunity to let that one slide.
Here you go. Don't use it all at once.

I'm liking this more and more as I drink my beer at 18% ABV.
A lot 18 beer released for football season. In the fall.
And sadly no, I cannot rerelease Theory of Chaos at 18% ABV as "Lot 18". The boss won't allow it.
Ok, I need style ideas for a football beer. Maybe something I can do as a seasonal each year. Won't have to be the same beer each year, just something appropriate.
I feel like it should be an IPA.
Seconded
Thirded
needs to be crushable and not too extreme on the flavor spectrum.. something like Festbier or Helles Lager, maybe American Amber or California Common if you'd like to work in more hops.
Ok, I like the idea of a belles. Real drinkable.
I'll have to see if I have fermenter space in late summer to let it lager for 2 months though.
Still soliciting ideas.
Chaos Mountain presents: Lot 18. This Helles pale lager beer is brewed from the never-ending fresh supply of LOLUVA tears. This seasonal beer is brewed to taste like victory in the fall, and at 18% ABV it can be quickly funneled while wearing a horse head mask.
Perhaps a nice Marzen? I start getting excited for Fall and football when I start seeing all the Oktoberfest brews popping up and always have some as part of my game 1 tradition.
New Belgium released a HPA (ipa with hemp) when we were in Asheville over Easter. Much better than I was expecting.
What about a kolsch? Should be a little quicker fermentation and still a poundable beer with some nice malt flavors and a touch of apple/pome fruit notes.
How about a trippel? Flying Fish does an American Trippel where they throw in some hops. Good platform for high alcohol, light for something so big, and a little hops to add personality/chaos and cover some of the over the top alcohol taste. If you want to nix it up year after year, change the hops mix or age in barrels. I'd love to try a trippel aged in a chardonnay barrel.
Wine barrels capable of holding liquid are tough to come by. Unlike whiskey barrels, wine makers use their barrels until they are beyond the repair of a skilled cooper. Whiskey barrels sometimes can on,y be used once, by law.
That's one reason why beer is often aged in whiskey barrels, you can get them after they have only been used 1 time and new.y emptied.
That having been said, the way to get past that is to buy the staves from barrels used for whine and soak them in a bottle of they wine they came from.
You learn something new every time you TKP. I have run into several wine barrel aged beers I have really enjoyed in the last 3 months. Siracusa Nera from Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada Trip in the Woods Grape, Grain and Wood, Skull Camp Jack's Brood Chardonnay, Wise Man Burning Patience (Moscato Aged), Joymongers Barrel Hall wine barrel aged Weizenbock. Just cannot get enough of them. I have seen the barrel's at the two of the breweries. Is there some bait and switch here, or have they secured the right connections to get barrels? Broad Branch Distillery in Winston does a nice whiskey aged in French White Oak Chardonnay barrels (a whiskey not a bourbon because a second use barrel), and I think the flavor would compliment some fruitier Belgian beers like it does Chardonnay. These, and a love for good Trippels, are the reasons for my suggestion. If I can work a connection to get you NC wine barrels, what kind would you want, and any idea what market rates would be, or should I ask them? On a not very related note, have you tried any of the Glenfliddich barrel aged experiments?
We have a Madeira Barrel that I just emptied of a Belgian blond and passion fruit.
They can be had, they are just tougher to get and a riskier proposition.
Large breweries with deep pockets and connections can get whatever they want.
It's easier to get a barrel so used there is no more wood character left to extract and the remains of pressed grapes. But this carries a significant risk of souring as it's not possible to sanitize these of bacteria and wild yeast to prevent souring.
If it were me, and I'm a bit of an odd brewer and drinker, I'd make a bitter. Easy drinking, and don't have to lager it. Low carbonation so you don't find yourself belching up what ever fried foods made their way to the tailgate.
Whenever some IPA obsessed person asks what it is, just tell them a pale ale. They probably won't know the difference anyway.
I'm with you on that. A good ESB is a wonderful thing.
I think a bitter is the best idea yet. 5.5%ish?
Name proposals:
(Lot) 18 To Party, 21 To Drink
TKP ESB
Tears Of The Wahoo
Session IPAs are also great for easy day drinking. Don't hate on the IPA, lol.
Living in SoCal, I've come to love Micheladas for sporting events. SoCal Breweries are capitalizing on this, with beers that already preflavored or made in style (e.g., Mexican lager) to be mixed with clamato.
I imagine it would provide something different than anything available in NC/VA, but idk, may not fly.
I've got a maexi an lager with lime peel already. I have a growler there at the spring game. Ring your own Clamato.
Nice. Sounds delicious. Wish I could've made it.
I'll have to make it out to a tailgate or your brewery someday when I find myself on the east coast. Always a big fan of trying out new breweries and I haven't visited too many on that side of the country.
Lot 18: Barrely Legal, a barrel aged something or rather. Didn't see another one named that on google. Barely Legal and Barley Legal both appear to already be beer names. The artwork could be a coed wearing a barrel.
You had me at, "especially to make a scene." Looks like I will be transferring over to lot 18 this year.
Oh, hell yeah.
All we ask is everybody contribute something. Doesn't really matter what. Just bring something to share. My contribution is usually turkey legs. I cure them the night before and smoke them right there. I usually make about a dozen or so and dibs on them go the new people if we have any.
We had some girls come to one of our tailgates, not bring anything, eat the food, and then proceed to complain about the food. The girls were straight up ready to strangle some people.
I'm all over some baked goods. What do we like? Cookies? Brownies?
Yes?
I'm on it.
Cookies and brownies, deftly avoiding the never-ending Cake v. Pie war. Well done.
Cookies and brownies just seem more portable for tailgating. Plus, less controversial around here. All good things.
I like pie.
You usually do more than legs. We have whatever you grill/smoke then we bring whatever I decide to make including caramel apple sangria, cake batter cheese ball, pizza cheese ball and other tasty treats.
I have to ask. Lancers. Longwood? I grew up near Farmville, so I'm curious.
Yep, she graduated from there. That is actually where we met too.
First time poster. My wife graduated Longwood in '95. I am from nearby. Small world.
Leg for your first post
I grew up in Amelia county. My youngest sister was at Longwood for a year before she decided it wasn't for her and wanted to do nursing school instead. I've spent a lot of time in Farmville. Whenever I'm home, I like to go out to the High Bridge Trail with the dogs.
I grew up in Charlotte County. Still have family there. Love the area just don't get back often enough.
Yeah. I spent 6 glorious years in Farmvegas... 4 for undergrad and 2 for grad school. I spent the last half of junior year through first semester of my last year in grad school driving back and forth to Blacksburg (HokieEnginerd and I had a long distance relationship ). We met in my dorm room. I actually student taught in Amelia (4th grade at ACES and 6th grade Reading at ACMS).
When I got to this sentence while skimming the thread my mind processed it as "I actually taught HokieEnginerd to read at AMCS." I was like
Not judging, but same.
No. No. No. I met my husband (HokieEnginerd) in my dorm room at Longwood--I lived with one of his best friends from his hometown. We had already been dating for over a year when I started student teaching. :-p
Hahah first of all it is important to note that I am not the keeper of Lot 18. Overall out of our original group, I have been tailgating there the least. I was give this title because I am the most loud, most good looking, and most friendly. And more importantly

But seriously. Everyone is always welcome to come hang out with us! Most of my best friends I met in that lot. Bringing stuff is great, but if you are on the run or coming from afar or just stopping by then it is not really necessary. We generally have more food than we could know what to do with.
The beer flows like wine there, and we love trying stuff we cant get our hands on normally. Last charity tailgate we were brought a cooler full of Ohio Crafts by someone who could not stay, and they were amazing.
Flippin, did you ever find a ride? Unfortunately, I can't offer to help as we're coming from the Fredericksburg, Va area, but hope you make it.
Not yet. I think I'm just going to make the trip by myself. I just can't tailgate as hard as I normally would, which is sad, but responsible I guess.
It won't be too bad. I don't think any of us will be rushing to get out of there after the spring game. We might just sit around and chill for a while. If last year is any example, it won't last much more than an hour. I wouldn't mind just enjoying the warm weather for the first time in forever.
Me too π΄π
Just go drink your tequila on the warm beach and............well, enjoy it!
Yeah, I hear you on the weather - looking good so far. We're planning for lunch before and dinner after. Heck, if the beer doesn't run out, can hang around for the fireworks after the baseball game....but that's probably like 10pm.
Makes for a loooong day.......
You should definitely come!! It will be fun. Tailgate hard early, recover at the game, drive back... If want to drive to Danville tomorrow night (or the butt crack of dawn Saturday), you could ride with us. Our plan is to be out of my parents' house and on the road by 7:30ish
The biggest reason for a day trip is because of my dogs. I have 2 personal dogs and 1 foster and it's too late to ask the rescue to do anything with the foster. I'll have to hit the ground running on Saturday, but I think it's doable. As long as I plan to sleep all day on Sunday.
Understand that. We leave our dog and our daughter with my parents.
Like how you said dog before daughter [not an attack, just lol].
Maybe the dog has been around longer?
LOL. No, we have had the dog for 2 years and the child for 6. It was just the way she wrote it.
:-) The discussion started about FlippinHokie having her dogs that she couldn't leave overnight. That is why the dog got mentioned first. While the child likes football, she also only watches for a little bit before she decides to move on to something else. The dog is terrified when we watch football.
I'm doing the 3.2 in the morning and then the wife and I will be milling around in some flavor of TKP gear thereafter. Hopefully we run into some of you to say hello.
LOL, I first read this and started thinking, "wow, this guy really puts it all out there!"
I busted out laughing when I read this. Got a sideways look from my office mate who is on a conference call.
I'm going to tailgate across the road and not say hi to anyone.
And definitely not saying hi to anyone's mom.
Hey everyone, some useful information here
SPRING GAME INFO
They are not including lots such as Litton Reeves on the parking map. This may mean they are just not official lots, and may not have bathrooms for you to use. It also could mean that they will not be open at all and are trying to condense everyone to a smaller area.
Looks like Lot 1, 2, and Chicken Hill are going to be the best bet for Tailgating.
Thanks for the game day info & for introducing me to this crazy bunch known as TKP. We'll be doing the 3.2 in the morning and catching the baseball game in the newly renovated baseball stadium after the spring game. Have fun in Cancun!
You seem like someone I may be related too. Chest Bop?
With the exception of the baseball game, that is my plan. Race, tailgate, football, home.
Anyone hoping to tailgate Lot 1, Cassell take note it's not opening till AFTER the race. So around noon.
I'm not going to be able to make it, but all this talk of early drinking and camaraderie has me feelin the double sads. Sounds like I'm gonna have to check out Lot 18 this fall. I think I would fit in well.

FAM! I'm taking the PE exam tomorrow and then heading up to the spring game! Looking forward to enjoying some beautiful weather and drinking way too much!
Good luck! You'll deserve a few cold ones after that. And I think I can promise you a Hokie win on Saturday.
Thanks!
I'm also taking the exam tomorrow, good luck!
Thanks! Good luck to you!
Michael Vick is coming for the Spring game as well as a few other Vicks. FORD LOVES MV7.
by other vicks you mean dwight, right? Not, you know, the other one?
Im not sure but I'm pretty sure Escapy McRunsaway won't be there.
At least orange is one of our school colors so....
I always associated UTjr with that color....
Was that an intentional reference to McDonalds?
The McDonalds thing was like fourteen incidents ago. Trying to run from a cop and getting caught happened at a gym much more recently.
that and to the effect that he tried to runaway from a cop and the cop still caught up to him.
Vic Tory
YOU MEAN HE MIGHT BE ON THE SIDELINES WHEN IM THERE!!!
YEP and somehow only allowed to stand near the recruits (hmmm)
After reading this entire thread, I still can't tell where the most TKPers will be tailgating, haha. Is "Lot 18" going to be there or somewhere closer in or in Mexico?
Is anyone else tailgating with teens that might prefer to hang out with peeps their own age rather than being bored watching their beer-guzzling parents (while secretly wishing they could partake....no doubt)? I'll have two 16-yr old boys in tow who like to throw the football and kick soccer balls around, as well as at least a couple of VT students looking for free food.
Since lot 18 isn't open for the spring game, the crew goes to the Chicken Hill lot (lot 5). I don't know if there is place in that lot where will all meet up but I hope we get somewhere close to some grass so we have room to spread out like we do in lot 18.
I am the only one going to Mexico. Everyone else opted for Spring Football instead π
Bring us back presents! And just sit right there and have another beer in Mexico...
Mexican Tequila is soooooooooo much better than Mexican beer. Try them all instead of having beer, and bring the best stuff back to Lot 18 in the fall as presents!!!
Did Someone say Mexico??!!?
"Everyone else opted for Spring Football instead." Well DUH! We are in that sad dark time known as the offseason. Adam and I have resorted to watching various games from last season on YouTube via chromecast and the NFL Red Zone Replay to tide us over until June and we can watch Canadian Football until preseason and then regular season. Last weekend we watched the beat down of ECU... The Spring Game will give us a happy taste of Football and tailgating for a few hours..... until we come back to reality and remember that September 1st (3rd) is still 4 and a half months away.
After you get back, I'll still be sitting on a beach, earning 20% for 4 days. Granted when I made these plans I was unaware when Spring Game was.
Like I said bring us back presents
I thought I was the only one coping with the off season this way. An ex deleted the UVA game from my DVR. There is a reason he is now an ex. The football games saved to a woman's DVR are sacred. We will all get through this bleak time together.
We are totally soul sisters. No smart man comes between a woman and her football. It is a good thing you got rid of that kind of negativity. You should have really made him pay by chasing him down while wearing your awesome heels and channeling your inner Edmunds and Motuapoaka and form tackling him...
I hope we get to meet this weekend. I think we would be great friends... We will be in the Chicken Hill Lot with the Lot 18 people. Follow the scent of turkey legs and smoked chicken and look for a blue Santa Fe with the plates LILHTHR
I'm definitely going to make the trip. The biggest decision is what time I need to leave here π probably at the ass crack of dawn.
ill have 2 14 year olds with me that all they want to do is throw the football or sit on their ipads *eye rolls* I hate those things lol. both play middle school football. where are you guys plan on parking?
Somewhere in the Chicken Hill lot (lot 5). Someone is going to post the exact place in this thread when they get there in the morning.
Cool! Maybe they can entertain each other some. We'll probably be in Lot 5 also, arriving between 11-11:30am. Driving a maroon Mazda CX-9.
Are you coming from Jacksonville NC or FL?
So do we have any definite tailgate locations happening? I hope to be up there early if I can get myself awake with all the unusual silence in the morning. I can bring some Carol lee's if I can get going early enough.
Find the normal group in Chicken Hill.
Me and Magic Rat are going to try and be there at 9 at the Chicken Hill lots. Once we get parked I'll get back in this thread and post where we are, or find out where everyone else is and just combine powers that way.
Are you paying Heather for football tickets in ones again? Cause that was awesome.
It was basketball tickets. And if he is, he better not give me $387 in frickin ones.... I will chase him down and form tackle him Tremaine Edmunds style... He should know better as long as we have been friends. And if he decides to be a complete idiot and give me coins, I will bludgeon him with the coins.
Hmm. Violence

So backstories--- I have known my husband and his friends for 16 years. Once his roommate decided to be funny and spray me with Febreeze twice. The first time, I gave him a dirty look. So "genius" decided to be cute and try it again. Then he pretended to run away. He was prancing through the apartment in Foxridge. I took off like a linebacker after the qb. I chased him from the back of the apartment to the door, lowered my shoulder and form tackled hip. He got up limping but I fixed his hip....
Fast forward to this past football season... Different friend from the same group paid us back for getting him Basketball tickets. Knowing that I would be the one going to the bank, he paid it back with mostly ones... I chased him through Lot 18 across the bridge into the RV lot before he surrendered.
The Edmunds brothers are from my hometown.
Sort of related: when I first started with my current employer, I was a lowly teller, handling cash on a daily basis. For Christmas one year, an older guy decided he was going to give his children and their spouses a couple grand each. In ones. He had four children, they were all married.
I have never hated a person so much as this guy that we ordered new ones from the Fed, that we then had to count, and then recount a week later when his children came back in to deposit the cash into their accounts. Not sure if you've ever counted new money, but it fucking sucks.
TL;DR: everyone hates that guy that gives ones when a larger bill will do.
In my defense: it was really hilarious until you turned violent.
We're shooting for Chicken Hill. We're also making arrangements to pick up the flag so folks can find us. I won't be bringing the trailer (we're going tailgate lite...aka beer...and tacos since Nick will be in Mexico) and I most likely will not be in my maroon truck but will be in my white super duty.
Adam is doing turkey legs and a smoked chicken. I made pizza cheese ball.
Some pulled pork is coming as well.
I'm bringing brownies. Or cookies. Undecided which as of yet.
Combine them to make brookies?
I'll be bringing breakfast. And by breakfast I mean donuts from Blackbird, Yeungling, and Kracken.
you gotta be careful with stuff like that. As soon as a user lets everyone know she's a chick who's into football, everyone's all like:

I can see how that could be a problem.
Nah.... It's only a problem for the weak guys.
Weeding out the weak is a hobby of mine.
Uh. So, that aged well.
Who would have thought a Spring Game thread and a trip to Blacksburg to day drink with random strangers could lead to this?
Does anyone know if Joe is ordained? Because we might need him to officiate a wedding....
I just want to know who is going to wear the orange and maroon banana hammock.
So nice of you to volunteer!
I think Nick should wear it with his flower girl dress.
God Bless a Chinese Chicken!!! Y'all are trifling. That is NOT the image that I wanted in my head first thing in the morning. I am going to need all the alcohol and eye bleach to get over that one...
Way to put a ring on it, DCIMSA. And what a ring! Congrats, you crazy kids.
Congratulations!!! We are very happy for y'all. You are a perfect match.

Congratulations!!! I was wondering what resurrected this thread. Very worthy. Best wishes and you won't have to worry about scheduling the wedding on the wrong day. Or maybe you can schedule it at Tech on a game day...
Yes, this would be the only exception for getting married during football season. Tailgate for the wedding held on Lot 18.
Congratulations to Flippin' and Danny Coale... you make a fun couple!
Congrats to you both! Perhaps we should turn off TKP and end on a high note.
That's a gorgeous ring too.
Please don't joke about ending my TKP addiction Joe, there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth. I might even need to start drinking again.
Yes
Plse No, Joe.
Aww, y'all made me smile, and get butterflies in my belly! Congratulations!
Who knew TKP would bring together love?
TKP is slowly turning into a dating websiteπ
P.S Congrats to you bothπ (tips tophat)
Tinder's Key Player?
I think they're both members of the Tinder Key Player's Club, too!
Congratulations to you both. If you need someone to do a film review of the ceremony, let me know.

And we have to get a GIFtory for the reception.
And a "Foe"rensics!
It'll be like this, but with turkeys.

Really need the story time behind this.
Yeah, I thought the exact same thing.
WTF?
Yeah, she looks stoked, him, not so much......
.... you want to thaw the chickens.
Seems fitting that One Beer came on the radio as I was reading this.
Congrats you guys!
God Dammit. I was just at Frank's a few weeks ago and we were still drinking that shit from years ago. It will never be gone.
I literally JUST killed that case. Am I going to wind up with more?
247 reports Devyn Ford and Quinn Carroll will be making their OVs at the Spring Game
Can someone, I'm driving, compile a list a recruits to look for on the sidelines and inside Merryman for me.
FYI -> Alphabetical Order
Antonio Barber, Roseman-Sinclair, Chris Braswell, Keandre Lambert, and Tyler Baron are all 2020 guys.
thanks
Since Ford has said he plans to commit early, the Spring Game OV doesn't particularly bother me. I haven't heard when Carroll plans to take his OVs or commit, and I realize he's very familiar with VT thanks to his older brother, but it on the surface it doesn't seem to be ideal for his OV to take place so early.
That said it looks like there will be an impressive list of signees and recruits (and MV7) in attendance so it might be a worthwhile gamble in this situation.
With December signing, the timetables are being adjusted.
I am sad I am missing spring game but it's the fucking weekend and Vacation time. And I'm really not that sad.
Well, I'm conflicted as to whether you are sad or not sad.
The sun isn't even up yet but I'm on my way.
To the Airport?
We're set up in Chicken Hill. Come find us!
Turkey legs just went on
They look a little undercooked :)
I saw someone bearing a strong resemblance to Coach Hilgart when I ran behind SEZ a little while ago, but then he smiled at me, so I'm pretty sure was mistaken.
Is the game going to be on the radio/tune-in app?
Local radio only.
105.3 Tha Bearrrrr, a cumulus station, brought to you by Southern X-Posure PLATINUM in Barboursville!
I miss that station so much.

You da man
Has the estimated attendance been announced?
35,000 something
Laaser announced 36,814 official I believe
So apparently the offense is having a rough time doing...anything?
Yep. Defense up 14-0 at half, offense hasn't done much of anything
Ryan Willis just threw TD #2 and JJ and Hooker both can't get anything going at all
Yeah the radio guys have raved about his arm. Sounds like he's been slinging it today & had a few nice throws to end the 3rd quarter
his highlights from kansas looks good
Patterson with a filthy 1 handed catch from Willis. Coleman Fox punches it in
Ryan MF.... Willis?
Willis looked like the best QB out there today. Patterson also had some nice catches. Hard to make any conclusions with such a small sample size, but I think our QB competition might last until the first game.
When did the QB competition start? It doesn't sound like anyone has pushed Jackson for his spot this spring.
Mr. Willis would like a word.
For folks that were there: would we say a gauntlet has been thrown down? Was Willis that good? Or was JJ noticeably bad?
I think it's hard to tell. The teams were a smattering of mostly second-stringers and walk-ons in many places. I will say Willis looks more comfortable going through progressions, but Jackson was pretty on-target with most of his throws. Willis definitely had more highlights, including a beautiful TD pass to Savoy that was located perfectly over-the-shoulder and hit Sean in stride.
Nobody looked "bad" to me, which I think was again a function of the supporting cast being kind of a hodge-podge.
What are you basing that on? The program has been incredibly quiet all spring. I don't think anyone knows what the QB situation is right now. I doubt Willis unseats JJ, but he definitely looked better today.
The fact that Fuente said the other QBs had things to prove that JJ didn't, or that JJ has been shown taking reps with the 1s more than anyone else in the social media posts, or that JJ was the starter for the spring game. I wouldn't call it a competition when the incumbent has spent the entire spring as the front runner with enough of a margin that the coaches haven't commented to the contrary. I'll put it this way, since Jackson started with a lead I won't consider it a true competition until someone else pulls even. That doesn't mean Willis isn't closing the gap.
36000 just saw JJ get pushed. I still think he retains his spot, but Willis has a fire lit
Hooker ended the game with a nice throw. Grimsley was targeted the most out of anyone today. I only Peoples get like 1 carry. Willis was the best passer today.
I heard DJ Crossen, Dylan Rivers and Tisdale get their names called quote a bit on defense
A few quick observations:
Willis looked really good, looked to me like he was going mostly against the #2 defense but still looked comfortable and appeared to be going through a few progressions well. Has a strong arm.
Hooker threw a straight up laser that would have been beautiful but the WR dropped it (forget who it was).
JJ looked a bit off but no major mistakes. The INT was a ball that bounced out of Grimsley's hands and up into the air.
Ladler looked good the few times I noticed him, jumped a route and almost came up with a pick but just barely dropped it.
Holsten had several good runs and at least one nice jump cut in traffic that stood out, and McClease broke off for a long TD. Fox also accumulated a fair bit of yardage.
Sean Savoy was the one that tipped the ball, not Grimsley. Savoy is a great receiver once he has the ball, but getting the ball to him is sometimes an issue as he could definitely work on his hands. He made up for it with the long TD grab though. Also sucks that the INT happened in the redzone, our offense was pretty awful in the redzone last year, hopefully that gets cleaned up a little
I'm not too surprised with Willis' emergence. Has long been tons of chatter about him potentially having the best pure arm talent out of all the QBs. Plus he is a r-JR with D1 starting experience. Jackson is still presumably the guy, but I think Willis could make this interesting if he continues to flash that big arm/big play potential. Hooker has all the talent in the world, but when you're repping with mostly walk-ons and reserves, you wonder about his pecking order on the depth chart at this moment.
Anyone see that Vick wasn't in attendance and his banner in the end zone was missing?
Wut? Nearly everyone stated he was there on the radio broadcast. Not sure why his banner would be missing.
His plane was late. He is here signing autographs his banner was stolen a "while ago".
Goodness gracious, how does someone steal something that noticeable from Lane Stadium and get away with it? Don't they have numerous cameras everywhere? I hope it wasn't some ridiculous protest cause against him.
HF, you forgot to say "That's it from here on the sideline - back to you guys."
How was it?
During and post game were awesome. My fear of a regimented "tour" prior were well founded. But I now have pictures with: Tyrod Taylor, Tim Settle, Bucky Hodges, Isiah Ford and some guys named Bud Foster and Darryl Tapp in one picture with me. I also talked to most of the team, talked to Joey Slye and the Edmundi brothers, also met a lot of signed recruits.
I passed by Tim Settle on center street while partying before the game. That is one large man.
Lol I printed each players pics and stats and made my own football cards for them to sign
Seeing all their faces when they saw them was awesome
Matt Christ took a picture with my card with him and his girlfriend π±
Fireman this is a very strange question but do you have a calf tattoo? I was trying to guess which person was you from the stands.
No, I am mildly fat guy, wearing horse on a treadmill shirt with red backpack part of the game.
Even thought you are not the guy I thought I still saw you! Nice to be able to put a face to a handle now.
Hopefully I didn't look fully geeked out down there.
Great seeing everyone again and meeting some new people. Hopefully it won't be too many years before I'm able to make it back up for tailgates. Not sure what supplies I can bring on the plane though.
