The topic has arisen, on more than one occasion, on, if it came down to it, which would folks rather have: the streak against UVA broken, but with a MNC, OR have the streak continue, but without the Natty? The first, & obvious response is BOTH. But when that question is dug into a bit further, we find that the answer is (surprisingly) more split than anticipated.
While there are die-hards (& I'll place myself in this category) that adamantly refuse to yield the streak, it can't be denied that there are quite a number of folks that would be willing to forgo it just for the chance to hoist the shiny hardware. Currently, we're nowhere near doing that (winning a Natty).
This post is not an attack against those willing to sacrifice the streak for a natty, nor is it intended to persuade them to change their minds or opinions. No, it's more of an explanation (& revelation) of why folks like myself vehemently refuse to sacrifice the streak & why zero amount of National Championships will ever dissipate the anguish towards losing to the Hoos.
I know this will be painful. But folks need to learn & need to know. Behold, the last time Virginia Tech lost to UVA:
Sucks, doesn't it. All of those joyous, smug Wahoo faces? I know there are a number of TKPers on here that remember it like yesterday. In addition I also submit this:
Pay particular attention to the losses from '97 & '98 (which were the most painful ones for me). If those of you still feel the way that you feel about the MNC vs. the streak, that's fine. Like I said, this is not an attack. But hopefully this provides a greater clarity for those of us that feel the way we do.
