Whit Babcock Says Minimal Fans This Year, If Any.

We may finally actually have the same average attendance for football games this year that UVA has had for the last several years.

"Minimal fans" at UVa would be above average for them

This never gets old

Tyrod did it Mikey!

So can they pipe in "stick it in" at the appropriate times?

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

You mean at all times?

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

I thought piping in Stick It In is what got it cancelled in the first place.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

I'm good with no attendance. Just give us something to watch and talk about. If the players want to play, then play. I know there's a risk but the exposure the ACC and SEC will have this year will be tremendous - if I'm a fan of a Big 10 or Pac 12 team I'm watching A LOT of college ball no matter who is on tv.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Yet they'll charge me full price for my season tickets...

We put the K in Kwality

They already said months ago that if you don't get to attend, you will receive a refund on your tickets. I don't understand why I've seen this sentiment on here so many times.

I know. I was just being snarky.

We put the K in Kwality

"/s" is custom made for that.

That's for sarcastica...not sure we have a code for snark.

/censored!

think of it as "snarkastica"

Exactly what "minimal" will likely be determined by local and state regulations. Right now, the state is limiting all events to 1,000 participants. Part of me wonders if the school could get away with holding one event in the SEZ, one in the West stands, another in the East stands, and a 4th on the field, all at the same time, considering that the stadium actually consists of multiple separate buildings for building-code reasons.

You cannot isolate the north end zone. Students have to go to the east or west stands for concessions and restrooms. Unless those got installed recently.

We're gonna need a turkey leg vendor in each set of stands.

That's one of the things I'm hating about all of this crap. To say it's a hardship on schools, leagues is an understatement,...
But vendors, parking attendants, secondary businesses/employees are screwed by no/limited sports.

COVID sucks.

Went to the local mall yesterday- a major mall with several high end anchor stores, etc. Many stores- chains in fact are closed- not just temporarily. Imagine how many more small businesses have shut down due to this. Without football, Im guessing half of the hotels in Christiansburg will be forced out of business.

Malls and hotels in big trouble. Study of Yelp listings has already shown 80k businesses that have permanently closed. 60k of those were categorized as small business. The gov't statistics on this stuff will be lagging, especially since small businesses don't have much to report, they may not have significant outstanding debt, so many won't file for bankruptcy, they'll just turn off utilities and close the doors. So hard to track nationally.

You'll notice I said SEZ, West, and East, and not NEZ.

Good, I'm all for spreading the shit around.

How weird will it be going to a game in Lane with only 1,000 to 4,000 fans? Call it the UVA experience.

Regardless, if they allow some number of fans, I'm trying to go.

Allowing 4000 fans also allows Whit not to be obligated to a blanket season ticket refund. Bingo.

The refund policy is already out.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Shhh logic doesn't fit his narrative

Understanding the word blanket doesn't fit yours I suppose

at this point i don't care if fans can go or not...just play

If they allow "minimal fans", what are we thinking, just major donors or top Hokie Club levels get offered chance to purchase tickets?

Seems to me they should sell whole sections to groups of 50 people. Then just have staff monitor the flow of people into and out of those sections, through the concourse, concessions, and restrooms. Can easily have that many people and social distance and do it safely.

And charge a high price for each section to make as much revenue as possible. I could see some groups paying big bucks to be able to have that experience, especially when you are talking 5 ACC games against some atlantic division opponents.

Alternate steps/aisles for up or down traffic flow.

Frankly, I'll take it at this point.

I got the email about my tickets. I will probably just defer my payment until next year. I have already made my donation for this year.

So TKP... if they opened up 1000-5000 tickets with social distancing, and no tailgating.... Would you go?

I'd love to have some Hokie football on TV to watch, but the experience would be so different that I don't think I would commit the 6+ hours of driving from Richmond.

Yes, and enjoy the hell out of it

Something tells me that if there are only 1k-5k tickets, that it should be trivial to figure out a way to distance tailgates sufficiently.

No tailgating? I mean I wouldn't be throwing a football with my neighbors in the parking lot, but there is no additional danger associated with tailgating outdoors with the same people I'm going to the game with.

Yes, I would go.
One of the obvious things that could happen with this is - no home team advantage. (For most years that would be like Hokie fans in the stands at uva.). I hope there is an effort to insure that "minimum fans in the stands" would be almost exclusively home team fans. I would hate for Clemson to show up and drown us out ... and they could do it because they travel well. One thing for sure is, it is hard to imagine the crowd noise will effect snap count much this year. "Enter Sandman " could sound pretty hollow also.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

I'd go, and enjoy it a LOT more than I would enjoy it with a bigger crowd during the time of COVID.

Yes. No doubt.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Yup and if they count where you live as a priority to getting tickets I might be safe in Christiansburg.
