Football Parking/Tailgating Help

Hey Everyone!

So a group of us are looking at going to the game vs. Pitt on 10/16 and were trying to do some tailgating. I've only had student tickets in the past and tailgated in the cage (which is free) so I don't really know how it works with buying a parking spot closer to the stadium? Are they reserved only for season ticket holders or can parking spots be purchased for an individual game? Thanks for the help!

they are only sold by the university to a limited amount of season ticket holders but you CAN usually find some on Stubhub or other secondary markets. There are also some public spaces at the commuter lots near Prices Fork as well as numerous other places that "rent out" spaces in their yards around town.

I second this comment. Start looking on Stubhub now. I bet you'll find a decent parking pass for around $100 for the Pitt game. If you wait, you might get a cheaper price if we're terrible (hopefully not the case)

The Lions Club also sells spots behind the stadium (Green Street Area) that i think are significantly cheaper than those in the actually stadium lot

$20-25 a game. You're literally right behind the Beamer Barn, which is nice going in, but can be a nightmare postgame. I was convinced I was going to die of old age before I could get out after the ND game a couple years ago.

Lions club lot and the Church right before the Lions club entrance on Warren St. are both good spots too.

Prices Fork lots were always a great way to get parking on gameday back when I was still a student. It was still only $20/car when I left (2014) and was a great mix of students and out of towners (both Hokie and visitor fans). You didn't need a pass beforehand, just cash to pay the attendants as you pulled into the lots. The garage also had parking but tailgating was understandably not permitted in them. And although it is a cross-campus trek to Lane you can carry beverages since they "fence" off the whole campus with rope and therefore make it an enclosed environment on gameday.

Airport lot was always a fun time. Not sure if they are open this year.

Looks like the airport lot will be in full swing this year. Shuttle or walk the Huckleberry Trail to the game. I think gameday parking was the typical $20 going rate.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.

The beauty of parking up there is you get back to 460 with very little effort.

very true. Some big time pre-game partying goes on there amongst the RVers. Was only $20 per auto spot last time I was there.

I'm one of those 'RVers'. Well, my dinky Hybrid trailer will be there all season. And yeah - we start the night before and just roll through the weekend. Clubhouse Tailgate folks are the place to be for 'Communion' before kickoff.

I loved the RV lot before they extended the runway. We'd land at the airport, meet friends and tailgate at their RV, walk down the hill and be right there. Getting back to the airport to fly out was easy too.

The new route around the departure end isn't a bad walk, it's just at least 2x the time and not very well lit.

If you know someone in the german club, you can get a guest spot there. Go there every year we head down for a game... Best spot to tailgate IMO

Screw all that.
Drop off your stuff near the guardrail at lot 18.
Than go park at one of the Price Fork lots.

Party with us.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Or drop your stuff off and pay the greens fee at the golf course, park there and hang out in Lot 18.

Now that a couple of games have taken place. I have heard that the lot across campus (near Smyth?) is no longer an option. Coming in from Roanoke the morning of this weekends Richmond Game. Bringing my dad. I have heard that there is some parking near Slusher, not sure how filled up that gets on gameday, anyone ever park there?

Thanks for the help!
