It's about what I expected, but somehow it still hurts to watch it actually happen.

Thankful for the defense to prevent it from being full on Duke 2019. Honestly it seemed like Narduzzi took his foot off the gas a bit near the end. Which is extra odd when it seems like Fu and Narduzzi don't have many fond feelings toward each other.

I think at this point Narduzzi feels bad for Fuente.

It's like beating up on your little brother, fun for a while but then you just end up feeling bad.

I think you're giving Narduzzi too much credit.

If he could have put more points on the board, he would have.

Totally accurate assessment imo.

...with spirits true and faithful...

Nards went for a TD with 2 mins left on 4th down instead of a FG. I think his intent was clear.

Edit: sorry, saw this was already posted just below me and removed post.

I don't really know why I watched this game

I stopped this season, after the wvu game.

The good news is South Texas has plenty of enjoyable things to do.

ND broke me of my unhealthy relationship with Hokie football. Didn't watch the Pitt game and probably won't watch any others this year either. It's just not fun anymore.

I napped instead of watching the second half, 10/10 would recommend.

I stopped right before halftime. I was getting stressed and angry and it is an unhealthy amount of it.

I don't like losing, but a loss isn't the end of the world. But the offense was so putrid that I couldn't put myself through that today.

I turned it off at halftime... ND broke me, so I wasn't going to let this disaster ruin the rest off my weekend

VT football used to be fun to watch.

Now I think I would rather spend time passing kidney stones.

I went to a 4 year old's birthday party instead of watching the game. I did not regret my decision.

About what I expected, but with D a little better and the O a little worse (& I had LOW expectations for the O). Fire Fu now!

That's what she said.

I hate to state the obvious.....we scored as many points against Pitt as UMass. That Pat Narduzzi defense is stout.

To be fair, UMass has a much better OC than us.

I watched about 15 min of this game and it was more than enough.

This staff needs to go.

I need someone to explain how Narduzzi has a Heisman candidate at QB and Offensive Genius Justin Fuente has absolutely nothing at QB. I'm sure that's just cherry picking or something.

It does help that his QB is in his 16th year. /s kinda

Go Hokies!

Also, he's an almost Heisman candidate. /s

If Justin Fuente was allowed to keep a QB for 16 years, he'd still transfer by year 3.

It takes at least 4 years for a QB to master Fuente's Horizontal Bullshit Offense. Meanwhile Lincoln Riley needs like 90 minutes to get a QB ready.

It's unfair to expect Justin to have a Heisman level QB in year two of his coaching tenure here.

It's actually just Year One, because last year was Year Zero. The apologists are still crafting the perfect excuse to declare this year as Year Zero.

Don't forget, he was burdened with a HOF defensive coordinator according to Whit's presser, and never really had his own staff. It truly was unfair.

Ironically his best QB was his -4th year.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Justin Fuente has created a culture where it is ROUTINE to not only lose, but get completely embarrassed in a non-competitive game, by Pitt.

Not Clemson, not Florida State...Pitt. A program that routinely shoots itself in its own foot and inspires fear in the hearts of nobody outside of Blacksburg. And they/Kenny Pickett are kind of good this year! Guess what, they weren't in 2018 or 2020 and the exact same thing happened. Three times in four years, completely run out of the stadium by them. We make them look like a top 5 playoff contender ROUTINELY whether they are actually one or a 6-6 team.

Get this clown the fuck out of Blacksburg. The entire staff, top to bottom, while we're at it. I want his stink the fuck out of Merryman, NOW. It's gone on for far too long and he has been given the benefit of the doubt far too many times. Grow some fucking balls, Whit.

Pitt is likely going to the ACC Championship game.

That doesn't make them a great team

This is my school

No, just the best of the Coastal, which isn't saying much.

But to say Pitt isn't competitive isn't quite right, either. And that was the point I was responding to.

that speaks more to how bad this conference is than it does of their talent.

Why does this matter?

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

And that's what we should want and expect from this team. This would've been a prime year for us had we had a coaching staff worth anything. I'm tired of it not being us and having to be okay with mediocrity. Enough is enough. While we're here, the culture and toxicity brimming on the surface of the program is just a really bad feel. Get Fuente out of there and start new for the sake of everyone involved. Can't even blame the boos now. It's deserved.

I was encouraging booing at the game. I never do that...speaks volumes and I'm just one of thousands of loyal fans fed up. As the fans flowed out towards Merriman AT HALFTIME, I thought "Whit has to see all those dollars bills walking away", but does he?!

Posted in the game thread, but also sharing this here.

224 yards of offense is the lowest in the Fuente era.

Just needs time to find the right QB. He'll probably run him off or tell him to play a different position, but he needs more time.

and a lot of this was garbage time

74 in first half...you have to try real real real hard to do worse than that...the things we aspire to now! Sigh.

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

During Beamer's last home game, we lost to UNC on a (not a catch) OT catch in the end zone. My then 9yo son grumbled "dad! Why did you have to make me a Virginia Tech fan?" I said, "well daddy works at Duke now and basketball season is about to start. You could become a Duke fan." He responded "What?! You can't just stop being a fan".

Fast forward to this point of this season. I now can't get that 15yo fan to watch the game with me. Sure, he still puts the VT shirt on for game days and he still loves O&M but he's tired of being let down. This is why I want Fuente gone. He's taken away one of the special things I have with my teenage son. And I won't get these years back.

You'd never survive as a Cleveland Browns fan.

This is so much me right now.... I've got an 8 year old son. He's all about robot, minecraft, and anything other than football. I want to be able to show him that Virginia Tech football is a sight to behold. This absolute crap that we've seen this season has my son asking me "dad, why did you put this game on of even you aren't going to enjoy it?"

You're not getting new fans and support playing football like this.

Last week my 5 year burst into absolute tears when we lost.

Bittersweet moment: I've finally found my fanatical kid, ... Having to find out the hard way sucked.

If you listen to SZD, Godfrey recently had an episode on how to be bandwagon fan (in the best possible way). I've recently joined the UTSA bandwagon, and it's made the season really fun.

If we had a decent QB, we'd be winning these games.

It's hard to understand why Hooker isn't on the team right now. It seems like perfect became the enemy of good, and we never got to perfect.

It's not just the QB....the OL is COMPLETE TRASH and we have NO game breakers at any of the skill positions. The closest is Blackshear who we can't figure out how to use.

It's not hard. It's because CornFuck ran him out the damn locker room and off campus all the way to dang Knoxville.

It's not that hard to understand why Hooker or QP are not on the team. The answer is staring everyone in the face, but people want to ignore.

I posed this question last year to my group chat and was quickly argued out of it. It doesn't quite line up with who has played and who is being recruited. Sands has made it clear he is 100% more on research and expanding the university academically. He doesn't care for sports and I doubt he would push any major initiatives.

I'd believe that he was 100% research if he didn't actively run the ag program from the campus

He said give to me Roscoe

Someone gave Whit a contract with a lot more football incentives - who did that?

I have been a Fu supporter. I also stated not firing Corn-In-My-Shit last season would lead his demise. Well, it's here. Unfortunately, no matter how this season ends, it's time. I wish it didn't come to this. It's sad really.

Apathy. That's a terrible word for a fan base but I think that's what a lot of us are feeling. I thought going in that we would get blown out and sadly, I was right. I've gone from hoping we don't lose to now just hoping that we win. That's a terrible feeling for a fan of a once proud football team. I'll still watch, because I love VT football, but my expectation is that we will lose the rest of our games. If we win one, great! But I'm not going to hold my breath.
I know the grass isn't always greener, but right now, our lawn is all but dead, so any change will be a change for the better. #FireFuente

By the way, check out the "TAKEAWAYS" for VT on ESPN's website. Pretty much says it all.

Virginia Tech: Once again, the Hokies were abysmal on offense. Poor quarterback play, dropped passes, and an inability to run the ball killed drive after drive. The performance was so shoddy that Virginia Tech's student section started leaving in the second quarter, and boos could be heard loudly throughout the game. Head coach Justin Fuente, who entered the season on the hot seat, needs to find some answers quickly.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

Honestly, this is what VT football is under Justin Fuente and it is not going to change until he is fired and we clean house.

We will not be a contender with this staff. We will not be a serious contender in our own division once someone else puts it together. And make no mistake we are not going to be the team that puts it together. Pitt tonight showed the difference between a coaching staff with a long term plan that can stick to it (Pitt) and one that is flailing (VT). Right now, outside of Duke we are the worst team in the Coastal. And this is all Fuente's doing.

This is my school

We may actually be the worst team in the ACC outside of Duke

The relative lack of participation in the vent thread is an indication that fan apathy has already set in. It is how we cope.

At this point i am just enjoying watching it all burn. It's better for a fast torching and to collapse rather than prolonging it.

The collective PR of the organization (reducing student participation at football games then having the empty stadiums the next day at halftime due to bad performance) is going to be fun to watch it's so terribad

We should no longer call them vent threads. They're group therapy sessions.

My thoughts exactly. Had to stop watching at halftime due to dinner/bedtime for my son and I really didn't care. Came here and saw very few comments and realized we're there. The apathy is setting in this year already, and apathy is a dangerous thing for a football program.

They were mad about overcrowding of the student section, but let me just say that won't be a problem for the last 2 home games...

Mission Accomplished.

Don't worry fellow Hokies, Coach Fuente wants to reassure the Hokie faithful that Brad Cornelson is a great OC, just look at 2016. /S

Go Hokies!

You know who I really feel bad for? French - he's going to be forced to watch this again and re-live everything we all want to forget.

I just hope he's become comfortably numb.

Let me just say that if French wants to skip and just go fishing this week, I'm totally okay with it. We all know how this massacre occurred

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

I say we give French a collective pass on this review. He deserves a day off.

Also, selfishly, I don't want to relive it but will dutifully read French's article if published.

With a QB with questionable accuracy and a bum shoulder and into 30 mph wind gusts Brad Cornelson decided to throw 7 consecutive passes to start the game.

The rest of the review pretty much writes itself.

Watched, and then immediately re-watched and wrote my review. I was in the OBX and missed a decent drum bite (intstead fished the next day 20 degrees colder.) But at least I got one.

I'm confident this is the new norm and I don't see any signs we're making changes to go away from it or the staff. Buckle up all we can do at this point is smile about what used to be.

(add if applicable) /s

It's completely obvious we need to clean house at this point but I agree. Too many people have blind faith that Whit's hands were tied last year or something and he'll be making a move this year - from where I'm sitting I think everyone above the football program is genuinely content with having a "good guy" at HC, wins be damned.

I unfortunately will believe Fuente is getting fired when I see it, if I had to bet I would say we're getting another 2 years at least of this exact same staff for better or (probably) worse.

I have to agree with you. VT has changed so much over the last decade. When Beamer was here, there were a lot of people high up in the administration who really cared about football and saw the value it brought to the university. With most of those people gone and being replaced with new higher academia type individuals who don't really care much for sports, I think our football glory days are squarely in the past. As long as the coach isn't embroiled in personal scandal or running a dirty program, VT is content with the results we see. I don't think we know or care to know what it takes to be a football school again. I do think there are probably a few on the BOV and in the admin that still care, but they are clearly the minority. At this point I think we just have to accept that the Beamer days are gone and VT isn't going back to that.

I think everyone above the football program is genuinely content with having a "good guy" at HC, wins be damned.

If that's the case, then I am truly done.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Good guy?

- players leave with major beefs, admin staff hates him, won't talk to VA high school coaches, other coaches hate him, terrible at press conferences and interviews, always blames players:execution first/takes blame last/rarely...

Wouldn't exactly say he is likable.

We put the K in Kwality

What are the major beefs players have had with him? I'm actually curious I don't know any. Who on the admin staff hates him? Where does this come from? Same with other coaches.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

What's worse is I don't think VT would be any better with Hooker right now, and that's 100% on my lack of faith in the coaches, not Hooker.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

100% this...Hooker couldn't even save the team from this coaching staff or lack of OL and skill talent

The score doesn't reflect how bad this really was. Being in- person and seeing it lives puts things in a different perspective. Listening to Fuente post-game with Burnop, he looks like a man lost. Our offense is non-existent. The defense just kept coming back out. This is beyond fixable, we need to restart now. I would not wait till December to make the move - make it now!!

One of the first games where I didn't really care. My wife and I had our first kid Wednesday. I didn't really feel like I was missing anything when I didn't have the game on. Saw that VT hadn't scored yet in the first half and hoped we would be shut out to clear out the coaching staff that said that they had the best passing QB since they've gotten on campus.

So what you're saying is your kid is bad luck /s

Hope by the time your kid can remember things VT will be good again!

Honestly I can't even vent, one because I accepted a loss before the ball even kicked off but also without many losses this year there won't be a coaching change. Now maybe with Miami and Tech being bad I can score some club seats in Miami cheap.

Honestly I kind of thought it would be worse. So there is that. Offense is awful, defense is decent. None of it will change as long as the current staff is around. Still can't help but tune in to cheer or maybe I just enjoy watching a train wreck.

Sadly, I also thought it would be worse. Considering the number of 3 and outs on offense, the defense did ok.

UMass and New Hampshire also scored 7 points each against Pitt. That's the level program that Fuente should be caoching. Western Mich scored 44 against them...

Burmeister 11-32 passing.... I think it's past time for everybody to realize that the QB whisperer Fuente who "developed" Andy Dalton and Paxon Lynch just lucked into decent QBs. The dude doesn't know what he's doing at any level of offense.

Welp. That happened. Not shocked. Never seen Lane that empty during a game. We're bad and getting worse. Anyone who disagrees is lying or dumb.

My grandparents went to Duke - undergrad and med school. They were telling me that students had stopped going to football games a long time ago (this was a few years before Cutcliff). I feel like we're headed to where Duke was 10-15 years ago, but without the excuse of being a small private school with harder admission standards.

That might be a bit of an exaggeration...I went to many tech Duke games at Wallace Wade from 2000-2010ish legit no one showed up except hokies.

(add if applicable) /s

I'm not saying for sure that's where we're headed, just feels like it. If Whit does not make a change, I'll probably feel a lot more like that. I went to one or two at WW somewhere in there as well, and you're right, there were hardly any Duke fans and tons of us Hokies. It was fun destroying them then - not fun being on the receiving end of that though (they're a lot better than they used to be with Cutcliff, but we should still beat them every year, the games should just be more competitive than they used to be). But man, after today's offensive performance, I do feel like we're in the toilet bowl swirl and somebody better rescue us before we go down the drain.

Don't be a bitch Babcock. Make the move

Whit is a coward, it isn't going to happen.

I seem to remember that French was not a fan of the technique Vice teaches the O Line. Did we just luck into some outstanding talent that made the line look good for a short while; and now we are back to what we can expect from a Vice coached O Line?

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Well, we did recruit that talent so not really luck. But yes, the talent and a talented back with a good one-cut skill set made the offensive line scheme look markedly better than it really is.

I thought the "all my QBs " part of this was an unintentional critique on the mismanagement of the offense over the Future era.

Then there's this:

Watching HH right now. HH is by no means perfect; however, Fuente must be an absolute moron to think that BB is better than HH. Similar situation with QP.

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

I feel for Tre. This offense hasn't been anything close to what we expected from this staff. Credit to him for being a Hokie and sticking it out. Unfortunately this will likely be his last year in Blacksburg I'm sure. Oh what could have been.

I especially appreciate him sticking around. All that potential he flashed as a freshman hasn't been developed to where he should be.

The revolving door at QB combined with his inept position coach have really hindered his development....I'm sure other top rated WR recruits are noticing.

Wow, another tweet from the top rope by Tre's mom

BAH GAWD, that's Tre's Mom's music!!!!

This game was about as ugly as it gets for the offense. You could feel it after the first possession. Then after the second possession there was no doubt this was going to be a cluster. I like Fuente's comment there was not one thing ... he was correct. It was everything. Honestly they did nothing well.

I turned it off at half time. I saw a lot of people left the stadium then as well. This program is not worth a couple of hours off of my schedule. It's awful.

Thanks for your effort in Blacksburg, it didn't work...its time to pack your things now.

I know this isn't how it works in college football, but after today's performance, I'd be embarrassed to take my buyout if I was the head coach.

Oh, I don't for a minute expect him to leave sans buyout $$, but it's time for him to get his stuff and get out of town.

At this point, I'd be perfectly fine seeing what this team can do under an interim coach rather than watching the same tired ass show fail week after week.

I don't think he'll leave without it either. Like I said, if it was me (and this is my own self respect and expectations of myself), I'd be embarrassed to take it. I HATE when I don't do well in my job. I know when I haven't done well. I know too, when I get to a new job, there's some learning curve (in football it would be recruiting areas/HS coaches and conference opponents/coaches). But if I don't know something, I go and figure it out, and if I can't figure it out on my own, I ask someone else (hire a guy like Kill - Kill left, but they haven't hired another guy like that). But I don't keep doing the same damn thing when it isn't working. And this is one reason they say don't hire your friends. If Corny isn't doing the work to get better (and it seems like he's not - I'd guess Fuente hired Kill not Corny, and we've heard how Corny responded to Kill), you gotta let him go, even if he's your friend.

I mean, if I felt like I was getting pushed out for crazy expectations, I get the buyout, but turning in a performance like that after so many years at Tech? If it was me, I'd have to take a real hard look in the mirror. Hell, I might make a deal with Whit for a mutual parting of ways where he takes like half his buyout.

...it bothers me so much, I won't change or do anything about it.

In his defense he did admit he "doesn't know" how.

Former players (spanning decades) with a lot to say on the Twitter-sphere today. None of it positive. I just want to like football again.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

I'm sorry fam. I did a 5k this morning and took the wife and kids out to the pumpkin patch instead of watching the game. And TBH, I'm in better spirits for doing just that.

I've mentally and emotionally checked out of VT football for the season after seeing our offense against UNCheat. For sure I'll watch games here and there for Jham's defense, but it's not exciting to watch the games in its entirety anymore.

Let's Go

Same here. There is no way I am planning my day around a game anymore. I turned it on and could tell pretty quickly this was going to be ugly. With three minutes left in the second half I turned it off. Found out later that Pitt scored yet again in the first half. I got my car cleaned and killed a bunch of spiders outside. More productive than watching this garbage.

I just stopped caring. Like everyone pouring out at half time. Why put good time after bad results?

Why kill the spiders?

Fuck spiders.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

I love how humans think they have domain over the animal kingdom and it's their right to control populations of other animals... /S

The hypocrisy is just insane.

Live and let live.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

every apex predator thinks the same, no?

Kind of. Nearly every apex predator is killing for food / resources. Killing spiders does nothing. They aren't competing for food and we don't eat them. In fact, it's detrimental, because spiders kill and eat mosquitos, which are detrimental to humans. Humans should be smart enough to understand this.

My greater point on the hypocrisy of population control is something that humans should also understand but don't, or just flat out ignore. Our population explosion is devastating to the rest of the biosphere on the planet and if it keeps up, will lead to a collapse, or at least go to complete shitshow. Humans need to look at controlling their own population growth first versus worrying about smashing spiders or if there are too many deer in the woods, for example.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

I actually like spiders. They eat other bugs that actually bug me (like mosquitos). If I find one in the house I generally try and throw them out without hurting them. I don't really fear the ones that aren't poisonous.

Not sure why you'd ever kill one outside, unless it's poisonous and threatening.

But that's just my opinion.

I don't like spiders on me other than that I really don't care about them, just a live let live relationship.

That being said there is one spider in the US that I just don't trust - banana spiders. 1 they're as big as my face. 2 their webs are strong enough to trap me in them. I don't care how 'harmless' everyone claims they are, I'm confident they're capable of eating full grown humans. I have confrontations with them like 10-15 times each time I'm walking out to my tree stands, during this time my rifle is self defense against any banana spider that might decide its time. I'm not even sure if .308 is enough gun to handle them though.

(add if applicable) /s

Just googled banana spider. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope nope.

Yeah I should clarify since there are multiple spiders that are called this. I'm talking about the golden orb weaver, silk orb weaver, golden silk spider or whatever creative names they've come up with to make it sound like these terrifying things are friendly.

(add if applicable) /s

Can the mods put a stop to this please?

Hi everyone let's not talk about apex predators and global population control in a vent thread thx

I had tried to be positive the last couple of years and give Fuente a pass . BUT screw this he has to go . This needs to happen before the end of the season . He's completely lost the fan base for sure now and I'm sure players have lost faith after this game .

At one point, Laaser pointed out Pitt had punted seven times. There were seven punts and we couldn't do anything offensively to respond. I've never seen an offense that squandered so many opportunities. I'm not even surprised anymore when we go three and out.

74 yards in first half. That's all. Done!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

7 rushing yards

We used to do that to other teams, sigh.

Our Defense is pretty good out there on the field but our offense

On one hand, I'm super pissed that I don't gamble on VT football, because Pitt -6 was just SO FUCKING TEMPTING. On the other hand I'm glad I dont, because then Fuente would have gotten the win (or at least beat spread) and I'd have been out a chunk of change, leading to my wife killing me.

"Hey Bud, you won't have to hold teams to 17 to win anymore" was a major selling point for Fuente and Co. Now we can barely pass the fuckin ball. Not only because our QB is hurt and we ran off all our decent backups (who arguably should not have been backups to BB), but "the guy" isn't very good at passing to begin with. He can throw, but passing is different.

I give Hamilton a slightly less critical grade, because this year could almost be argued as a true year one for him. He had no spring ball in 2020, barely a camp last year, was never at full capacity last year (that I can remember) during the season, and had this spring and camp to get his defensive scheme in place. It also doesnt help that your side of the ball damn near never spends more than 5 minutes on the sideline between shifts on the field to get coached up.

Fuente either drops Cornelson, starts calling plays himself the rest of the way and MAYBE buys another year, or we burn it down and start looking. If we as the TKP community are apathetic, I can only imagine what the whole of Hokie Nation is feeling (and the pictures from after half don't bode well for that). How long can Whit allow that to happen? I would argue that Fuente needs to make a change AND win out if he wants to have a Blacksburg address next year.

Warning- Filter lost.

Fuente either drops Cornelson, starts calling plays himself the rest of the way and MAYBE buys another year

I think it's passed that point. The problem goes beyond just playcalling IMO - there are structural issues. If Fuente somehow wins the ACC this year - which I don't think is possible - then I will entertain the idea of keeping him. But I don't see that happening.

Edit: I just remembered that Fuente has never beaten a team that finished the season ranked. It's time for him to go. We'll never have a top 25 program under Fuente. He's gotta go.

Twitter me

I think its plausible the we win out if the offense grows a sack of balls. But I do not see Pitt losing 2 of their remaining ACC games

Warning- Filter lost.

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

These offensive issues aren't a quick fix. We're lacking depth. BB3 has all the heart in the world, but he's not accurate enough. Tre and Tavyon are good receivers, but they're not able to consistently get seperation. I'm not sure if that's due to scheme, talent, or both, but either way, it's not a quick fix.

Twitter me

What you just described is not lacking depth though. That's our starters

Free Hugh

Those are multiple things. James Mitchell out. OL is missing key pieces. AND our starters aren't producing the way they were expected/needed to.

Twitter me

I admire your optimism, but I honestly and truly don't see us winning more than 2 more of our remaining games. Duke, and maybe one other. I don't think many are grasping just how god fucking awful our offense is, and how ill-equipped we are to address it with the current staff. I mean we all know it's bad, we all talk about how bad it is... but saying it and understanding it are two different things. It's that bad. It's "end the season with a 4-7 record" bad.

I say that because we have the talent to do so, and it would be the most Justin Fuente thing ever- fuck up enough to screw the season, win enough to give Whit a glimmer of hope.

Warning- Filter lost.

Narduzzi is a below average coach. Fuente makes him look like Bill Walsh.

For the first time in ages I chose to miss the game and took my pup hunting instead and don't regret it one bit. Apathy is it this staff don't give me any reason to feel optimistic we can win many more games and I'll most likely quit watching this season and spend more time doing other things and waiting on basketball season. Sucks to say it it really does I loved everything Fuente has been the way he's held himself and the brand but unfortunately the xs and os guys he surrounds himself with aren't good enough.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Narduzzi was 1000% one of those coaches that Whit spoke to in December. "Oh yeah, Justin, we love him...definitely keep that guy".

This is still one of the biggest things that bugs me about Whit and why I don't quite have the faith in him most seem to. Just a hilariously out of touch quote and entire press conference. Why would you think for a second that trusting the opinions of rival coaches would be a good idea? They want this lame duck HC who's good for an easy win here for as long as you can possibly keep him.

What was your favorite part of that presser?

A. Angry fans don't donate enough to justify their opinions.

B. Having to work with Bud Foster was a burden.

C. It is year one.

D. I talked to the competition and they told me to keep him.

E. The offensive scheme is well though-of by "people you would know"

F. All of the above.

Also, "We have to do a better job of dehumanizing Cornelsen."

I'm with you. I don't have any faith in Whit to do what's necessary. In fact, based on that presser, I actually am expecting him to dig in his heels and double down on Fuente. He was just so... defensive in that press conference, so completely out of touch. It was the kind of arrogant, self-righteous certainty that signals that a person's ego is invested in their position, and now - rather than apologize for their mistake and walk it back when confronted with facts - they will dig in even harder because admitting they are wrong is too embarrassing. For Whit to cut ties with Fuente means (at least indirectly) admitting that the angry voices who don't donate enough were right all along and he was wrong. I have serious doubts that happens. I honestly think we'll see darker days yet still before Whit makes a move.

Damn. We got served.

And I'm back believing in the one Stat to rule them all! can't believe I was questioning it legitimacy

Was at a wedding so i was already drunk before i looked at the score.... Thank God. Fuente needs to go, not hard feelings but it is time for both parties to move on. I thought this game was a make or break, but we will see what the people who make decisions think.

As usual I was at the game and I was resigned going in that we'd lose...maybe not this badly, but resigned nonetheless. And then this happened. Truthfully, if it wasn't for my fellow Hokies next to me (who were hilarious and the only shining light today) I would have probably left. Half the student section was gone BEFORE halftime. After half the exodus continued until we were one of the only ones left. The student section actively yelling "FIRE FUENTE" and booing Sands during the homecoming "royalty" announcement (don't get me started on that shit). It was bad. And this was after the AMAZING student sections for UNC & ND.

It's truly demoralizing.

Long time fan. Since 1989. Post bowl streak era, I've not seen anything like this. We are at the point where this look gains rapid fire momentum and Lane will be like it was pre-bowl streak era. East section 1/3 empty, more and more people tailgating throughout the entire game, and football will be not much more than a scheduled event that comes and goes.

I mean it is only a scheduled event that comes and goes each weekend during the fall. To get people to attend it needs to have a product that is worth staying for. Currently that is not happening. The attendance has honestly been great in my eyes this season and I think people are finally getting sick of the product on the field again. Students and attendance are the least of my worries and I don't blame them for leaving early to enjoy their weekend. VT just needs to win and it will be better again.

I was trying (and largely failing miserably $ to find something, anything positive while I'm the stands yesterday -the best k could come up with

"Well we didn't lose a fumble"

"It could be worse-it could be raining "

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

We scored.

Because I wasn't ready for the extra shitstorm that would be coming down around here if Fuente found another streak to break.

True- AND that td catch made the top 5 plays for this week's college football games-so we got THAT going for us.

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

I've said it before, but this further entrenches my opinion that Cornelson should have been let go serval year ago, after the 2018 season specifically. Fuente should have been fired no later than last year, and the fact that he wasn't means that Whit should be this year. We have lost nearly all of the ground that Beamer built up over his tenure and it will be harder than ever before for a school like us to rebuild that. If we fire Fuente this year, we're going to be like the fifth best job opening. If we hired a great coach, our current roster has huge holes in it from mismanaging position numbers and overall inability to acquire the level of talent needed to compete. In the process we've alienated schools in our backyard to try and develop failed inroads half the fucking country away. The VT coaching job is no longer desirable. This is a mess and it got to this point under Whit Babcock supervision

Free Hugh

Whit has killed it everywhere else. Firing him is akin to cutting off the nose to spite the face.

And there is every reason in the world to believe that the presser was called last year to fire Fuente and it didn't happen for reasons beyond his control.

This is my school
This is home

If that was the case, and the most important operational decisions for your department are taken out of your hands, rendering you feckless...why sign the extension? It doesn't make sense.

Its not a giant conspiracy, man

This is my school
This is home

I'm sure this is a logical fallacyof some kind, but idc:

Most of the people on this site still in love with Whit were pro-Fuente up until like a year or two ago, I believe including you. It took us hitting rock bottom for most people to finally see it.

Hopefully everyone is right about Whit and I am wrong, but Jesus, it will hit yall in the face before you accept it if you are wrong on this one.

Free Hugh

Man you're acting like Whit hasn't absolutely killed it in pretty much every sport except football since he was hired, and even then the Fuente hire was widely regarded as a home run by every professional college football pundit out there at the time, with few questioning the extension after he led us to the ACC title game his first season.

That it all collapsed the way it did is not on Whit, and thinking that it is leads me to believe you think the AD should be far more involved with the day to day operations of each department. I just don't agree with that, he has to focus on the big picture and let the coaches run their ships, and intervene only when shit has his the fan. The only mistake he's made so far is not using last year's press conference to fire Fuente, and even then, there's enough smoke over the situation to think that he originally called the presser for that exact purpose before it all fell apart.

Given the way that he himself has basically orchestrated the turnaround of VT basketball, let alone all the non-revs, yeah, that man absolutely deserves the benefit of the doubt going forward.

This is my school
This is home

You have to give Whit credit that he's also not a micromanager of his coaches. He lets the head person run the program the way they want to and doesn't meddle like some ADs do. It is now apparent the trust in Fu to not screw things up was misplaced, but I have to think that is an attractive component for a prospective HC to know that the AD isn't going to dictate to him how to run the program.

If Tech does move on this is also why I think we absolutely go someone who has HC experience at the P5 level. We can't afford another G5 goof up.

I sincerely hope you are right

Free Hugh

I don't always agree with Alum07, but when I do, it's a post like this one.

Yes, Whit has done a great job. He's got his work cut out for him on VT football.

So completely shifting gears here...

Anyone notice how few shots of Narduzzi, especially salty shots, we saw during the game? They had the camera fixed a lot more on one of their coordinators, to the point where if you weren't really listening, you might think he was the head coach. I wasn't really listening, so I can't remember which coordinator it was.

They're probably confused by Narduzzi's new title, and were looking for '97 Chris Bickell

Pat is not camera-worthy when they are winning. When they are getting their teeth kicked in or in an otherwise contested game, he's funny as hell to watch whine/complain/argue/tantrum.

I believe that was Mark Whipple (Offensive Coordinator) getting most of the screen time. Makes sense given how much they were talking about Pickett and Pitt's offense on the broadcast.

CornFu are such trash that Wolverine couldn't survive at QB in their offense.

I would like to say that I am angry/mad/sad. Unfortunately, I feel none of that. In fact, this is the first game since the 2008 Furman game (my first game as a freshman) I truly did not care about a hokie football game. This was the first time since that game, I didn't realize that Saturday was a gameday. I didn't really care if Hokie football was playing or not. I'm indifferent. More than the loss, I am sad that I have become indifferent to the sport/activity that I dearly loved, and invested heavily in a decade-plus of my life. I just want a change, good or bad so that I can look forward to gameday.

I left my house at halftime to go to a Caps game. I was pretty disengaged even watching the first half. I turned to my wife at some point and said I regret that we're going to go to the Duke game. I have been so emotionally engaged in this program since I started at Tech, but now, I've just straight up hit apathy. Like Highs and Lows rode on how the team did (I know that's not really healthy, but I have a very sports oriented life). Now I'm just waiting for this season to end and praying for change.

20 pass attempts in the first half for a QB with an ailing shoulder and the windiest game of the year. Whoever schemed that should have been in their car to the unemployment line at halftime. Adapt to the situation, it just takes some basic awareness. At this point, whatever happens happens, but if nothing changes by the time this coaching carousel is over, then we are well and truly screwed.

My email I just sent to Whit, Ballein and Sands:

Good afternoon Mr. Babcock, Mr. Ballein, Dr. Sands,

I am writing to you today out of my grave concerns for the current state of Virginia Tech football. When Coach Fuente was hired, we -the fans, the alumni, the donors, the incoming players- we sold on a hire-powered offense, and that the defense would no longer need to play perfect to win games. Well, you all can see that that is not panning out, I won't go into the details of our 100+ ranked offense, or letting two 4 star QBs walk away and become stars at other programs (or the countless other starters that have transferred out of the program and have been quite vocal as to their reasons why).

I also realize that as I am not a high dollar donor, my opinion doesn't carry as much weight (that point was made abundantly clear during that bizarre off-season press conference last year). But, I am an alum, and until the past two seasons, have been a diehard, almost "rabid" fan! I have given what I can, when I can. Over the past few seasons of disappointing result after disappointing result - with no public attempts to address the failures, apathy has crept in.

I enrolled at VT in 2001, the memory of the championship game still fresh in my mind. We never got back there, but we had some great teams while I was a student there. Since enrolling, I have either attended, or watched on TV every game that was available to be watched, for 20 years. This offensive coaching regime is flat out offensive. I have hit the point where I am considering completely tuning out VT football until changes are made. That hurts me to think about. But, I have far too many things going on in my life to carve out 4 hours (or a whole weekend to attend a game) to see that the same problems and issues on the offensive side of the ball have yet again not improved.

They are killing this program. Period. I think the problems run deeper than just the offensive preparation by the OC and positional coaches, I think it runs to the top. BUT I would be content to give the current head coach one more season IF Cornelsen were relieved of his duties. At least show us that Fuente, and you all, recognize that there is a massive problem, and attempt to do something about it. The status quo is not working. If Fuente is so loyal to Cornelsen that he cannot make a change, to the detriment of the football program, then he needs to go as well.

As you all know, it is not just the football program that suffers. How many small businesses in Blacksburg depend on the dollars that the fans bring to town each week? You saw the virtually empty stands with 10 minutes to go against Pitt. What happens when that becomes the norm? Something must happen, and fast.

Don't get me wrong, aside from taking something that I love, and tossing it in the dumpster, pouring gasoline in it and lighting it up - I have no animosity towards Cornelsen and Fuente. I am sure they are great people off of the football field, but they are clearly in over their heads - G5 coaches running a G5 scheme against P5 defenses getting paid P5 money. It's robbery. Hindsight is 20/20, but how I wish Bud had gotten his chance.

Heck I would even be all for wiping the slate clean now. Give JHam a test drive, Smith as DC...maybe check with the Blacksburg High School HC to see if he wants to be interim OC, can't be any worse than what Cornelsen is doing.

Sorry, I am getting cynical, but it is just so damned frustrating.

On the brighter side, Mr. Babcock, when it comes to all of the other sports, congrats! Things seem to be going great, I could not be more excited for basketball season to get here!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

I hope you signed the letter with your TKP quote, just like it reads in the post.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

I also realize that as I am not a high dollar donor, my opinion doesn't carry as much weight (that point was made abundantly clear during that bizarre off-season press conference last year).

Bless you, sir, for reminding him of this garbage. Not that he cares. But bless you all the same.

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

The worst/funniest part of the game is that they gameplanned to sling it down the field multiple times while it was one of the windiest games of the year with a banged up shoulder QB.... If that's not incompetence, I don't know what is.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

not to mention the multiple times they had BB roll out to his...left. I didn't watch the whole game but I never saw us even test the middle of the field. Our offense is poop.

Onward and upward

We did have an RPO slant look that went for 30 yards. Didn't really see it much after that.

It worked so they would be expected it again. Duh.

Free Hugh

on top of that, it was clear as day they wind was making the football sprial out of control/short of the WR, and yet we continued to throw it high and deep. Like I get it, we are all just arm chair coaches, but some of these things are just fucking common sense.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Serious question. I read al lot how we have the talent but at the same time, our recruiting has been sub par at best. It's apparent we have coaching issues but do we really have "the talent"? I would venture to say our issues go beyond depth. Do we really have a double edge sword here?

We have talent in the sense our starters are capable of being 5-0 going into the Pitt game.

Lack of recruiting has made the depth chart a problem when there are injuries or guys out with targeting, etc.

Instead of sophomores or juniors playing behind starters, we got true freshman

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

We need to run the ball if we want to have any sucess. From seating so up close, I noticed that the WR and HB/TE were lined up to the right and the running back goes left or goes down the middle with no blocking help.

Year 6 of Fuente and still no running game from the running back.

At least allow BB3 to run some bootlegs, I'm not even seeing a jet sweep. And we started off with 5-6 throws when our QB is a running QB.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

We didn't call a single running play until the 3rd series. On a windy day. With a QB who hasn't displayed any kind of reliable ability with his arm and who may or may not have an injured wing.
