at first I read this as F*** David N'Guessan and I was like, c'mon ease up he's free to do what he thinks is best for him. Then I realized that he's a Forward.

umm this pretty much sucks wind, unless there is an incoming portal dude taking his minutes?

Wow. D Cunna confirms as well. Better hit the portal hard bc he was in line for mega minutes

Edit: embedded wrong tweet bc I'm a ding dong

he was in line for mega minutes

Makes you wonder if there are some things lined up that would have made it difficult for him to get those mins next year, but they just haven't been announced, yet.

This is my school
This is home

Yes that's the hope. But lots of puzzle pieces means lots of complexity (edit: that can go south) and he was at a position of need

I thought it was absolutely critical he returned. A big that can defend and knows the system. We desperately need that. I hope CMY has someone coming in and David saw some writing on the wall? If not this is a buzz williams starting 5 size wise.

Surprising. Felt like he was in a position to start and be solid contributor next year.

That's a kick in the ding dong. Wish him the best. He was really fun to watch.

Wish him all the best, was looking forward to watching him next year.

Regarding roster situation:

To echo what everyone else is saying....he was going to have a significant role the way the roster is right now. Even if we bring in some pieces this is a big loss because he's a good defender and familiar with the system. He played some good minutes this year and I think he had a lot of room to grow. Hope this plays out well.

(add if applicable) /s

Wow, we're only going to return Cattoor, Maddox, and Pedulla from last season...

The vast majority of the rest of the team (4 freshmen + John Camden + Lynn Kidd) have never played a meaningful minute. Even Maddox and Pedulla have hardly any experience. And even if we add Reid, that's someone with only one year.

I would love us to go out and get 1-2 grad/experienced transfers.

We're in desperate need of a starting 5 and a starting 4, assuming Mutts doesn't return

I don't think there is a need to panic about this, there is still plenty of time and options out there for transfers to fill roles that are needed for this team.

Ok, this kind of sucks. But overall I think it is a good sign for the program because it likely indicates things are happening behind-the-scenes that would not have given N'Guessan the minutes we expected him to get next year. I think Camden plays somewhat of a part in this decision, but I also fully expect that Mutts will return and us to land a transfer center as well, whether that is Efton Reid or someone else.

Best of luck to David!

I am hoping he changes his mind. I would love to see him get more playing time this coming year. He had high energy coming off the bench and showed potential signs of greatness.

That being said, until the wheels come off the bus at 88 mph, I have faith in CMY.

That being said, until the wheels come off the bus at 88 mph, . .

Does that mean we can go back to the future?

Only that we might be going back to the beginning and rebuilding/reloading.

CMY has obviously lost the locker room

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I mean he was good but is he expecting to play at a bigger program? Or just be a centerpiece at a smaller school?

Best of luck to him.

Also, relax.

This sucks. He's the only real NBA physical talent on the current roster. I thought he had the potential to really dominate if he made another leap. Maybe Mutts is coming back, but Nguessan gives us a higher ceiling imo.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

☹️.... Mutts back??

🀣🀣 my nine year old mind..... mutts back butt smack

Well this news sucks. I always felt DN'G was destined for basketball greatness, if only because I thought he kind of resembled the great Dr. J, at least in appearance.

This is a bummer. CMY is recruiting pretty well but we need some guys to stay and develop or we are going to have depth problems like we have for the last decade.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

That can be a problem with success. Getting the players the attention they want to move to potentially bigger systems or easier routes to championships. But we don't have the reputation of a Duke who reloads every year.

Probably need to adjust that thinking, not specifically for us, but all of college basketball. With transfer rules being what they are and now with NIL on top of it, if you're a kid that goes to a school and doesn't see big minutes certainly within the first 2 years, there's no reason for you to stay. You're better off finding a spot where you are guaranteed the role you want than staying put and hoping it works out. You're not gonna see many programs that have players and depth that have been together 3 or 4 years. You're far more likely to see teams that have rotations with 1 or 2 players there for 4 years, experienced college players that transferred in for 1 or 2 years with the program, and the rest are freshmen who will either stick with the program or transfer out at a later date

While I don't disagree with your analysis, it is such a terrible way to experience college. And relationships aren't meant to be transactional.

Efton Reid to Gonzaga, for those who thought he was a VT lock.

Tyrell Ward to LSU

Efton reid hurts big time

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

CMY and crew got some scrambling to do at this point.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Eh, yes and no. They've been going after frontcourt heavy all period so its not like they aren't prepared without other options. Still in it for Grant Basile and Osun Osunniyi. Basile is hard to find info on, he's keeping it close to the vest. Iowa St and VT look to be the leaders. But we were one of his first visits and he wants to visit all his options before making a decision so that's why its been a wait. Osunniyi just entered the portal so don't have a feel for his leans yet but I expect a big VT push for him. I think we've gone after Manny Bates and Qudus Wahab but I haven't seen much info on where they stand (with us or anyone else). I think we're still pursuing some lower level front court guys like Andrew Carr (Delaware) and D2 player Jamari Smith.

It's disappointing not to get Reid, but its not like we had all our eggs in one basket. We're still in the hunt for several guys. Now if end this portal cycle with just Camden, that's gonna be a real downer

Well that's an f-ton of disappointment.

Lol the "sources" on here have been shooting blanks as of late

So you're saying the sources have no sauces?

The sauces have been more like an over-cooked dry rub

This isn't 247 or TSL's pay wall content. Frankly, Twitter has made that content pointless.

We also have people post here who are well plugged into the program, and some who work within the department itself, share bits and pieces during the recruiting process. We also have folks who share a relationship with a booster or 2, who share info as it comes in.

Ultimately, this is recruiting. And we are hanging on the whim of 18-22 year olds. There's no science to this, rhyme, or reason. A recruit could tell you Friday he is committing, and then commit elsewhere by Monday.

They may have really liked VT but we know $$$ was a driving factor. LSU doesn't even have a coach yet do they?

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

This was my first thought as well. In the past, many of us may have thought that someone was getting paid but now I am fairly certain that most of these talented transfers have an opportunity to be pulled in any direction at any moment in time with a little scent of $$$. Unless we start to have some big money boosters step up, it will be difficult to land/keep the talent we all hope for.

Ring Design Chair

I mean, they had Camden pretty much the whole way so *shrug* ?

Ones that know never had much confidence in Ward other than saying he was considering, which was true. Talk for awhile was always us, LSU, with Georgetown making a push late. He ended up at LSU. So their info was mostly accurate. Not their fault that some VT fans took "VT is in it" to mean "OMG! WE'RE GETTING WARD!".

Some did think we were getting Reid so its fair to say they missed on that one. Some of that could be their source believed Reid to VT was happening until Gonzaga swooped in last minute and things changed before they could update their reports, which happens in recruiting. Some of that could they just failed to read the tea leaves as his recruitment stayed open and newer schools joined the conversation the last few days, which is what I think happened.

Thanks. I hate it.

But seriously, thanks for the update

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Well I guess I can break out my K State shirt now

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Good for him! K-State is actually a better program than what I figured he would end up at.

I wish he would stay and help us win another ACC title, but I get it. With Mutts returning and the influx of transfers I doubt N'Guessan would have seen significant playing time. He has to do what's best for himself.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Idk none of the transfers seem better than he is

I would've liked for N'Guessan to stay, but you don't think Basile is a better player than him? Camden was also higher rated coming out of high school.

Can't put a Wright State transfer better than a Power 5 7th man at this point, no

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

that's fine, I have different opinions but whatev

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Realistically what do you think his role would've been if he stayed? From everything I've read or film I've watched on the players coming in it seems unlikely that he would get many more minutes than last season and certainly would not be a starter.

In my opinion he could definitely improve a lot, but he needs minutes to do so and I don't think that would happen here with the way the roster has worked out.

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

At the time of his announcement, he was the only returning big man. Now, he'd be a 6th man at worst, and probably part of a 3-man rotation in the post. 15-20 mpg easy

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

If he gets past the mental block and becomes a confident, effective shooter in game situations, 10-15mpg would be a possibility. But Mutts is going to play 30mpg and he didn't show that ability all year last year while lighting it up in practice. Realistically this fall he'd be behind or at best battling Camden for limited minutes behind Mutts.

Yes. And I don't know that they will play Mutts and Camden at the 3 and 4 spots at the same time; but they certainly can. Will likely depend on what Camden and Collins show as to who is ready for the most minutes; or what the matchups are. Poteat is first in line to back up Basile. Probably a make it or break it year for Kidd to carve out a niche.

I like David a lot but a 3 man rotation in the post is exactly where he was last year; and exactly why he transferred.
