Coach Mike Young Preseason Presser (S/N: man I love this guy)

Around the 20 minute mark, when he's talking about the unofficial visit by Pedula. Absolutely love this guy. He's Frank Beamer with a roundball, and not one person will talk me out of believing that. So glad we got this guy. Excited for the season.

Will give this a listen when I get home and can grab the ear buds.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Learning from our football experience, we need to enjoy the hell out of the time we have Young here at the helm, and do not take this time for granted.

He puts off more of a "here for the long term" vibe than Buzz ever did. But who knows, a well performing coach is always going to have big dawg money coming after him.

Just wanted to add this as this gives me the same smile as listening to Coach Young.

I need to listen to this one as well. Thanks for sharing.

I am so glad he is sticking around for year 6. I loved his story that he is finally going to take classes that he is interested in now that his masters is basically done.

He talks about Maddox a bunch. Can't wait to see more of this:

Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

I can't stop watching this!

I was in the 5th row directly behind Darius when he made that shot. Knew it was money the instant it left his hand.

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

One of my favorite Hokies ever.

I liked the part about "we should be a little better than last year"

uva - the taint of the ACC

Love this guy. Just does it right. Hopeful for his continued success. I think the best that came out of that from my perspective is recruiting... "They seem to be picking up the phone a little more" for us now that we won the ACC tourney. That's awesome for trying to build this thing up.

Were people calling for Mike young's head last January too? I forgot they had such a bad record at that point 😂

He also dropped a nugget about a commitment from Greensboro Day School player. Jordan Moody??

Jaydon Young

Mentioned Camden, Kidd, Poteat, Collins, Rice, and Basile a couple times each; Rice is injured and hasn't practiced. Basile will play 4/5. Camden is a 3 (for now). Nothing of Buchanan and Big Pat. [Keeping this in context, this time last year Pedulla wasn't getting mentioned and N'Guessan was getting some hype for his improved shooting and athleticism]

MY didn't commit to a 5th starter at this point; it will be shocking if it isn't Basile. Personally, I'm really excited to see how they use Camden; he's a crazy good outside shooter and good passer. Challenge is to figure out if/where he can play D. I think Poteat is going to play quite a bit; not real quick but he's hard to deal with under the basket. Seems to be a make or break year for Kidd. Rice's injury is troubling.

Really rooting for CMY to have a great next few years. We really need it to tie us over during the football rebuild.

yeah, and really hope lieutenant rob is around to drop some insight on all of us

Now that you mention it I don't think I have seen him post in a while. Maybe he just goes into hibernation in the basketball offseason.

Apparently the football team did as well this year.

he's always been a bball guy, i've seen a few tweets from him recently which is encouraging because i know he was pretty candid about some serious health scares a little while back. i think CMYball will bring him back around

He will always be Cadet Captain Peterson in my eyes.

Can't wait to see if Maddox and Pedulla can keep improving like they did last year. We will need a "Mr. Consistent" to step up and fill the scoring hole that Keve left. Everyone else was very boom or bust last season. Hopefully the new bigs can replace Keve defensively as well as keeping our guards from being smothered by presenting a scoring threat in the post.

Cattoor has gotten better every year he has been here. In his defense, inner shot game, etc. Hopefully he will be that guy for the final year of his career here.

Definitely, just need more consistency out of him. No more of this "Score 3 against UNC then 31 against Duke the next game" stuff lol

I could see Pedulla struggling a little bit this year, especially early on. I know he was as good as Storm (sometimes better) last year, but I think there's a big difference between coming in for 10-15 minutes a game and being that guy all night, every night.

I wouldn't even see it as a negative regarding his personal improvement, just a potential growing pain of taking on a bigger role.

Hope I'm wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.

He's a very small guard playing in the ACC. Yes there will be some rough nights.

You know I thought the same thing at first. But that kid has pretty good quicks and ups. He wouldn't be the smallest ACC point guard to find big success. His added strength (dude has put on some muscle) is going to help him on the blocks when bigger guards try to post him up. We did see some issues with this last year.

"Don't go to, go through"

Pretty strong guy, iirc, and up to 195 (same as Bede was listed)...not going to block any shots but I don't think he's going to get pushed around.

Saw him before Wofford game and he has gained serious muscle. He's close to 200 at 6-1.

Another thing no one ever mentions is that Pedulla fouled a LOT last year for somebody only averaging 13 mpg. He fouled out twice after only playing 17 minutes, and somehow got 4 fouls in 6 minutes against ND lol. It might have been the game just moving too fast for him, but he'll need to get that under control if he's gonna be the starting PG and get 30ish mpg. He seemed to get it under control later in the season, but it is still worrying.

I remember feeling like a lot of those were sketchy calls and thinking the refs loved picking on Pedulla. I bet it's more like you said, getting used to the speed and learning how to play defense at a faster pace will help

It was a bit of both. Some were legit learning fouls but that ND game was all on the refs seeing things that weren't there.

I know it's off- topic, but if you haven't already, I suggest listening to the Sep 28 Hokie Sports Insider podcast with Aisha Shepherd. I'm not sure I've ever been more impressed with an athlete's interview. Absolute joy to listen to.
