ACC PM Previews WVU Game

Broke the news of the ACC HQ move to Charlotte, then talked a little Black Diamond Trophy.

The disrespect of being the underdog for this one....

So much disrespek!

Twitter me

The 3.5 ypp is 4th in the nation not 5th. We are 5th in total defense!

I made the mistake of checking out our projected winning percentages on ESPN's Matchup Predictor for our remaining games, and let's just say it's a bit disheartening. I know it's just an algorithm, but here's what ESPN has:

WVU - 37% chance of a VT win
@ UNC - 22.9% VT win
@ Pitt - 12.6% (!) :(
Miami - 19.1%
@ NC St - 16.5%
Ga. Tech - 75.2%
@ Duke - 39.8% (ouch)
@Liberty - 32% (double ouch)
UVA - 62.2%

For me at least, this was sobering. Based on those numbers Pry really has his work cut out for him, and I'm going to have to try to temper my expectations for at least this season and next.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Like I said before, if he doesn't lose the locker room (players play hard) and they show signs of progress (get better) I will be happy this year. More wins great, but just keep the players engaged and progress is the important thing. He is already improving recruiting and it will take time.

This 100%. It's still early in the season against lower-level competition, but the defense already looks WAY ahead of what I had expected. You can build around that.

I have already watched more VT games this season than I had the past two seasons combined. I had totally checked out because of what the program had become - no need to rehash that here, we were all there.

I like Pry, I like the effort I see on the field, and I'm cautiously optimistic about the future.

I've liked what I've seen week to week on offense. We ain't world beaters but we do appear to be getting better week to week as a whole group. This is pretty much what I wanted to see this year. The defense being what it is a nice welcomed surprise.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the future.

Me too. But I sure am excited at the same time haha

I think us going 4-8 this season is totally reasonable. Some will very loudly disagree, however. I've seen a few people already prepared to write off the coaching staff after week 3. Like if they just "coach harder" the players will miraculously get better.

The coaches made mistakes in game 1, less in game 2. They are also getting better.

Everybody needs to improve and that takes time and experience.

Those numbers definitely say 4-8 or 5-7, especially after factoring in the ODU loss. But the Hokie in me just can't accept wanting anything less than 6 wins and a bowl game.

Also, do we really have just a 12.6% chance to beat Pitt? And just a 16.5% chance to beat NC State? I don't know if I buy that.

I don't think we have a much higher chance with NC State, but I do think Pitt is beatable. Tonight will tell us a lot about what the rest of the season could look like.

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

And 24 hours later, it looks like those FPIs might be a bit generous to us.

We have to do something about the penalties. It was brutal to see the yardage we gave up.

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

one might even say that winning 7 games would be a miracle....

Onward and upward

Have you ever gone back and looked at how bad those ESPN predictor numbers are earlier in the season?

I'll never forget my non-Tech buddy telling me during the W&M game in 2018 that the ESPN predictor said we were going to go 11-1.

Narrator: They did not

My gosh Wes Durham looks different these days!

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

This'll be me, any time the LPD gets near their QB1
