Suppose I wanted to send a user a message. I don't think the forum allows you to. When can I expect this in the next release? Agile Methodology? Awesome.

Why do you want private messaging? What purpose does it serve? The root of TKP is open discussion involving anyone and everyone. I personally see no reason to burden the server with messaging; it defeats the purpose of what we do here.
Best example I can think of is the ticket exchange thread. I don't like putting up my email up on a messaging board.
Get a throwaway email at https://mailinator.com/. Problem solved.
There are a few other instances where personal messaging would be useful on here too. However, I doubt it'd be worth your time, especially considering your the only one that does stuff like that for this site I believe (thanks for that by the way).

So... Rather than using a service that already exists, you want Joe to put in the time and effort to reinvent the wheel?
You don't have to jump on him. People suggest things to Joe all the time. This one in particular I've seen asked before along with a way to tag users in a post so that they can be notified if you are asking them a question.

Seconded. PMs, I can take it or leave it. I would love to have tagging functionality, as well as dashboard notifications for new replies to your own comments.
I can't think of anytime I'd tag users, but I'd love a Facebook style notification when someone responds to my comments. Every time I log in, I click comments, then navigate to my recent comments, then ctrl+F 'unread' to see if anyone has responded to me. But alas, it requires a small effort to do it the long way, so I can deal.
