VT Men's Lacrosse - 2012 SELC Champions

Though some joke about UVa Lacrosse, VT has a men's club.  The Hokies just won their Conference Championship in dominating fashion outscoring Fla St. 15-8 in the final.  Hokies finished the year at 17-2 and will be on their way to the National Championship Tournament.  VT rolled through the tournament by a combined score of 36-15 beating South Carolina and Tennessee in addition to Fla St.

The West Coast teams have dominated the Nationals primarily due to the fact there are few if any varsity teams there.  They get all the best West coast talent whereas the East coast clubs have to compete for talent with varsity teams.  This year the tournament is on the East Coast for a change so maybe VT will get an edge.

National Tournament follow up:  VT was the 14 seed and played 3 seed BYU, the defending champs, in the first round.  VT lost but was tied at halftime.  BYU made the final 4 but lost to the 2 seed CSU.  VT won its consolation game to finish the year 18-3.

As a high school middie

I whole-heartedly approve. Those guys have been really good for a while.

I was on the VT team

Many years ago we played Uva every year. Varsity teams are not allowed to play club teams anymore. I started one year and played in Scott Stadium. We got the full treatment with starting line-ups announced over the PA system. Then they proceeded to destroy us. Big difference between club level and scholarship athletes.

The club lacrosse organization nationwide has grown tremendously. Way better than when I played. VT has always finished near the top of the SELC and has played for the championship numerous times. This is the second conference win. Tech has competed in the Nationals many times either as the conference champ or an at-large.
