Special Teams Coach

After last night's game it is time for Frank Beamer to fire the special team's coach and hire a new one.......what?..... Frank Beamer is the special team's coach? He needs to be the head coach and leave the special teams to a new hire. Seeing the mistakes we have made and lack of execution (except for a kickoff or punt return occasionally), this is not "my father's beamerball". Even Journal who has had a pretty good year missed an extra point and field goal. I want a blocked punt - just think what it did for Miami last night

If there is any truth to Beamer's ....

..."Its the Execution, Stupid" post game comments, it's with special teams.

What I saw:

- Yes, we have a punter who has dropped three balls. We also switched snappers this year for the first time in four years and are using a punter who had never played football 18 months ago. So, yeah, there is an issue there.

- Duke Johnson broke a KO return. That's like saying Mike Tyson is good with pinatas. Duh.

- A really good FG kicker missed a 47-yd FG.

- PAT's get missed a few times a year, it's rarely convenient. I would say that most missed PAT's come after quick scores, like a 75 yd run by your QB. If anything is to be learned from last night, it may be for Journell to be reminded to be ready for a PAT always. And, if you're not quite ready...just take a delay of game penalty. (every now and again, somebody will take a TO because some blocker isn't on the field for a PAT after a quick score. That drives me nuts, just take the 5 yard penalty)

overall, the special teams have been much better this year than I expected. AJH can punt. Journell is very good. Good punt returner, fairly good KO return tandem. (I do not understand why Michael Holmes is back for punts...or really why he is ever on the field. But, otherwise)

Beamer Ball

It is so crazy to see the death of BeamerBall unfolding before us. It used to be so exciting to watch special teams because you always felt like there was a shot to see something special or game changing. Was it me or did that punt block look like it was happening in slow motion? I honestly don't know of any teams that couldn't have blocked that. It was so slow developing.

I feel like we don't have the right matchups or something...we should be able to block some or at least attempt to.

do any starters even play special teams anymore? not returners mind you, i'm talking about on the punt block unit. remember when suggs or king or tapp would block kicks? that's part of our problem.

yes, frank needs to swallow his pride and hire someone to handle it.
