Apologies if this has been posted before but I just saw this and found it interesting.
I chose UVA as a comparison since I feel like that is closer to where we are at rn as opposed to Clemson.
UVA comes in at #32 for total revenue and Tech is 10 spots behind at #42. I find it interesting that UVA has nearly half the amount of sales rev, but $8m more in contributions and $3m more in rights / licensing. All that being said UVA is ran a deficit and Tech ran a surplus.
Also I'd like to know more about our school funds being so low if anyone has insight into that.

j/k the post kind of sums it up. Our contributions from alumni are below average, which has to do more with the age of our alumni as a result of Tech really only growing into a major university in the 90s and most of our alumni have not reached prime giving age or are at the high wage parts of thier careers. I think Tech will start to beat averages in 15 years or so based on rankings that show Tech in the top 5-10 in terms of schools that the students love. Just need more alumni to get to the point where the mortgage is paid off.
Also the licensing deals are likely undervalued, but again that will change as the number of alumni continues to grow and someone is willing to play hardball for the next round of contracts.
If anyone is interested, I had a few minutes. Here are the numbers for everyone listed.
UVA was coming off a Natty in basketball...that helps the gravy tremendously.
If you're looking to compare athletic department revenue/spending, I think http://cafidatabase.knightcommission.org/ is the best site.
Sucks to see that we brought in about $2M less in 2018-19 than 17-18. As Fireman pointed out in a previous thread, ACC revenue is down 2% per team. It will be interesting to see changes to donations and licensing.
