While I understand where you're coming from (especially given his erratic/robotic play last year and the effusive praise we heard a year go), in the grand scheme of things there are more pressing items (or, position battles) worth the coaches' public discussion.

I'll take the position that no news is good news...

Yeah, there really isn't any competition for him right now. Dinardo and Trimble are both players that have switched positions a bunch of times and aren't really a threat for his spot. At this point point like philly said, no news is probably the best news right now.

I'm wondering if RVD moves to Backer next year to play next to his brother at Mike.

Hope not. If he can be a play-maker at Whip, he'll never move. That's a really, really important position in Foster's scheme.

Is it? Didn't seem like whip was even on the field much last year. does the new 4-4 Foster defense evolution have less whip?

Historically, it has been. Look at what Cody Grimm accomplished at that position. Output from that position has dropped off since he left.

RVD has the skill set that Foster likes, the ability to be physical as well as turn and run with recievers. The past couple seasons he hasn't had that guy, so he's brought in nickelbacks. Putting Fuller (a CB who can tackle well) at the nickel spot highlights the skill set Foster likes out of a slot defender.

I think you're spot on. He's made changes recently because he didn't have a guy he trusted at whip.
