Proud to be a Hokie. I had a good feeling about this game going into it, but I was still nervous about it. I loved the way this team stepped up. We knew that the defense would play well and that Bud would have the team ready to shut OSU down. We looked fast and knew what we were doing due to great coaching. We pressured the QB and our secondary was ready to jump on passes.
A few thoughts:
- Newsome is fast. It was great to see him take off on a few runs
- ROGERS! How can you not love this guy? A lot of guys would have taken that reverse and forced the pass. He took what they gave him and made a great run. It was also nice to see him get the TD.
- Brewer is one tough and composed kid. He took some big hits and jumped right back up, which I'm sure the team loved. They'll rally around him. He had a couple of INTs, but threw some GREAT passes.
- Loeffler had a great plan. I know we couldn't run the ball, but OSU's DL is flat out awesome. We did enough on the ground to keep them honest. I liked how Loeffler stayed aggressive. The 3rd down pass out of the end zone for a 1st down. I was worried that we'd run 3 times and punt on our last couple possessions, and we didn't. Awesome stuff.
- Special Teams. We didn't allow a big play on special teams. That was a huge concern for me. The coverage and protection were good. Stroman looks like he could do some things in the return game.
- YOUTH. Holy crap is the future BRIGHT. We need to take this momentum and take it on the recruiting trail. It helps that Josh Sweat and co. were there last night.
- VT fans at the game. Well done. I turned to my wife in the last minute and said "Do you hear that?" with a huge smile on my face as I heard the "Lets GO HOKIES!" chant. It sounded like we had an army at the game.
- I hate to dance, but when Riley took that INT to the house...
