Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
Take this all with a grain of salt. (brothers friends mothers cousins kind of intel) Friend of mine who has connections to the Beamer's extended family in Hilton Head. Strong speculation that Chad Morris will be next head coach, Bud Foster stays on as DC. Again this could be total BS, but figured I'd stoke the flames a little.

Just as skeptical of everyone on here, but got some more details from source.
"The announcement will come after the UVA game. If we make a bowl, Coach Beamer coaches it with Morris in attendance and reporting for duty after the Bowl"

Since our beloved coach is about to retire, I wanted to think about how "the guys after the guys" did. It's not comprehensive, but I wanted to find coaches who were the faces of their athletic program and coached at an institution for 15 years or more. It's kinda hard to go back in time to recreate context, but I gave it a shot. So here's what I found....
Bear Bryant's Successor (Ray Perkins) - 4 seasons, 3 top 15 finishes, record of 32-15-1 at Alabama. Had a losing record in '84 which enraged Bama boosters. After a 10-3 season and top 10 finish in '86, he left to coach the TB Bucs and Bama fans basically said "get out and good riddance."

There's no By the (Advanced) Numbers this week due to the bye, but after the convincing win against BC and (unexpected?) win by UVA over GT, I thought I would update the win total projections:

That puts Tech's bowl odds at about 1 in 3. Two factors likely make that higher:
1 - You'd be crazy if you think the team won't play their asses off for Frank to make a bowl
2 - It seems likely at this point that to fill all bowl slots, a few 5-7 teams will need to be taken. Virginia Tech is almost certainly the top of that list.
Beat Georgia Tech, and even if no one's ratings change we'd be looking at greater than 50/50 odds of a bowl.

Didn't see this posted yet, but I thought I'd share.
What Frank brought to Virginia Tech football, to Virginia Tech as a whole, was an identity. It's tough defense. It's Michael Vick lighting your idea of what a quarterback could be on fire. It's Thursday night games. It's Lane Stadium. It's the idea that opponents far and wide would clutch their chests and call their mothers before going to a small city in southwest Virginia. It's "Enter Sandman." And, at the base of all that, it's Beamer Ball.

I'm not going to lie, I'm blank this week. Even if, like Beamer, I believed it was time, the roller coaster of emotions is real. Announcing on a bye week was another smart and caring move, because if I'm having a hard time this week, I can only imagine on how it's going with the staff and players. I'll think I'll go re-read some Frank articles.

We've all seen the rampant speculation about who will replace CFB. One thing that I find interesting is the "Special Advisor to the Athletic Director" role that many have reported him to be in for the next four to eight years. We all know Coach isn't disappearing from Blacksburg, although I have no doubt he'll be respectful of the next head coach's need to establish his own authority and program. Which leads to the idea of Coach Emeritus.
A couple of random questions for everyone...

Like many of us, CFB's retirement announcement made us feel lucky to have had a coach like him help build and bring our beloved football program into the National football consciousness. I've posted a few t-shirt designs on TKP for fun but couldn't help put how I personally felt onto a mock t-shirt design.
Here it is..

So since everyone has ideas about who will be or who should or should not be the next head coach at Virginia Tech. I'm taking an idea someone had earlier and running with it. I thought people could research and write up their candidate(s) for the head coaches position and provide all of the rest of the TKP community with information about them. Use their coaching history, record, what is their style, strengths/weaknesses, what can they bring to Blacksburg to make Tech better. Don't just make the case for them but introduce TKP to these guys one of whom may be the future head coach of the Hokies. Bring forth your candidate and let them be judged by the TKP community.

The Colts have fired offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, who was a strong candidate for the Virginia Tech offensive coordinator position a few years ago. Think he gets another look this winter?

Hi All,
I saw someone asking to conduct a poll on Beamer's replacement.
I set this up through my Google account. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do this but at least its for the TKP community. If you are interested, please click on the link below.

If there is a better way to conduct a poll, feel free to combine this post with another.

Sorry if this is a re-post but I stumbled across a few national articles that actually gave Beamer his due respect and thought I would share.

I thought we could discuss what we hear on a Tech Talk Live on this day that the great Frank Beamer has told the world he is retiring. The show tonight will be dedicated to just Frank so it should be good.

This popped in my head and seemed interesting, so figured i'd query folks. And for sake of the argument, let's say some ancillary issues (ie: could we afford him, would Bud stay on?) were taken care of, and he was very interested in coming here.
....would you be happy? It's been widely known that Meyer wants a football factory where you're in if you're contributing, else you're SOL if you're not, and that they certainly don't care about you as much (a la Cash at Duke).
But, you'd probably win a championship or three with him at the helm. Maybe more.
Would you be ok with that?

How do you honor the guy who put your program on the map, gave you history like you've never had before, and set standards that he himself is having trouble meeting now which is leading to him retiring?

With Coach Beamer calling it quits after this year, I can't help but feel more so than ever that VT (and us fans!) have gotten a bit of a raw deal this year. Yes, injuries are part of the game, but we have seen a relatively potent VT offense with Brewer at QB during his 2.5 games this year. Add to that the loss of Kendall Fuller at CB, which has had a pretty significant impact and I can't help but think what if...
Oh well, just wanted to get that off my chest and look forward to (and enjoy) the last 4 games of the Frank Beamer era at VT.
