Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.

Story from Saturday

I know we're all fairly bummed about the way the game against ECU turned out. But as others have noted on here, this is a young team that will take some time to reach its full potential. I can't wait to be in Lane this weekend cheering with 66,000 other Hokies as we take on GT. Also pumped that my parents, girlfriend, and some Lynchburg friends who "have never been to a real college football game", in their words, get to join me.

WR Outlook 2014

I wanted to start a post and get everyone thinking what will/could happen as we go deeper into the year. We all saw what happened this weekend with the drops from some vet players and then some amazing catches by freshmen.

Isaiah Ford- Love this kid, he really knows how to run a route and isn't afraid to take a hit. Hands might be one of the best on the teams. I expect him to continue to develop into a huge role for Lefty and the offense. He seems to be an all around good WR- can go deep, across the middle. I think his best area is the deep outs/post routes.

Desmond Frye Out For Season

Tough Break for Desmond. Hoping he has a smooth recovery and is back returning pick-sixes next year.

When It's Good...

In the last two weeks, we've watched a roller coaster of Virginia Tech football games.

In one, we watched our QB throw for almost 300 yards while dominating time of possession by over 13 minutes. We frustrated them into over 100 yards in penalties. Our defense held them to only converting 5 of their 15 third downs, and made them punt more times than they have in a single game in two years.

An Open Letter to the Virginia Tech Athletics Department

Mr. Whit Babcock and Staff:

Please, I beg of you: make it stop. The "it" I'm referring to here is the over-amped pumped-in music, usually of the EDM variety, that finds its way into the soundboard and through the giant speakers of that new videoboard we have.

I know that you, Mr. Babcock, came from a Big East/CUSA school. And you're not off the hook either, President Sands, having come from a B1G school. Virginia Tech is in none of these conferences; let's stop acting like it. In fact, let's stop acting like we're anything other than who we truly are.

What do you like and don’t like about the current football team?

Despite losing a close home game to ECU, Coach Frank Beamer claims that he is more convinced than ever that the Hokies have the potential to be a really good football team. After watching all three games, there are many things to like about the team. There is also plenty of room for improvement. I agree with the coaching staff that the Hokies have plenty of talented young players to turn things around if they can limit and learn from the mistakes.

Bears vs 49ers Fuller

Fuller is now in playing corner for a hurt Tillman. Looks like the 49ers are testing him early.

Thank You North End Zone Students

I mentioned this in a comment that got lost in the gameday thread yesterday but I just wanted to give a shout out to the students that were in the North this week. They really stuck with the game even after going down 21-0. The large majority even stayed until the end of the game.

As a recently graduated student that had the misfortune of being stuck in the North 2/3 years, I can't tell you how frustrating it was for half of the students to leave at halftime to go downtown and drink. I was so surprised and pumped that the students stayed the whole game yesterday.

So thank you to those students that rode that game out and gave all they could.

Should we be worried?

I'm not looking to get anybody riled up. I've calmed down from yesterdays heartbreaking loss. But should we be worried about some of the decisions made by Brewer yesterday? Those two interceptions were absolutely horrific decisions by Brewer. The score could have been much worse if ECU took advantage of those turnovers. Brewer also got bailed out on throws by Isiah and Bucky.

Does ECU have the best QB/WR combo that we face??

After seeing JT Barrett and OSU's WRs not play to what people thought they could I do think Shane Carden and the group of recievers that he has are the best that we will see all season. Their WR's made a ton of plays, though I do think our DB's could have battled for the ball on some of those passes and gotten interceptions had they turned to play the ball. Carden was putting his passes on the money. He was accurate all day for the most part. I still believe we should have won that came had we not came out so slow in the 1st QTR and allowed them to jump to such a big lead.

Gameday Traditions / Superstitions

I got called into work yesterday morning so I threw on my vt shirt and left. Could not have my pregame Oktoberfest beer and it gets worse....

I'm so sorry hokie nation that I was unable to change my shirt after we got down 21-0. My #5 t shirt got us through the osu game but didn't have the power to overcome that deficit. I know if I had been at home I could've changed we would've won.

I saw in the thread for the game people were changing shirts after the 1st quarter. I'm sorry I couldn't.

I've been around sports all my life and everyone I've ever encountered has some traditions/superstitions.What are your not so crazy superstitions on gameday?

Is Virginia tech still a top 25 team after losing to ECU?

When you defeated the number 8 team in the country in their own stadium, you deserve consideration to be the top 25 team in the country even after one loss. Critics are quick to dismiss VT as a good team, but this team has the talent to silence people if they limit their mistakes.

New to TKP

I'm that 3rd string quarterback, just sitting back watching, learning, and reading from the sidelines. I think I've read every article, every post, learned what a turkey leg is, figured out acronyms, and realized what a great HOKIE community TKP is.

I"ve been a life long Hokie fan, and graduate of the 2009 class. It's safe to say that my life revolves around the Hokies. I find that I wear my VT gear more than my wife would prefer, I find ways to incorporate Chicago maroon and burnt orange into our home, and my office is decked out in as much Hokie memorabilia as can fit. My love for the Hokies continues to grow, and I credit a lot of that to TKP.

How bad was the officiating?

Couldn't watch because of commitment to my GF. ESPN commenters (I know) even from fans of random teams were talking about how bad it got for ECU....to the point that ppl said they were changing the channel....was it hyperbole? Did we hang in the game w a lot of help from the refs?

Is Facyson really just rusty? because by week three, he just doesn't look like the same guy.

In three games mike brewer has 6 turnovers? Are we on pace for a 25+ to year for our qb? That's not good news....

In other news, I think we've seen the good bad and ugly that this team can produce, and I'm not sure if I should feel good about it. What do you think?

Thoughts the Next Morning

I slept on it, sobered up, and came to a couple significant conclusions:

1 - We lost to a good team. ECU should have (I know, woulda, coulda shoulda... but still) beaten Sakerlina last week. The same Sakerlina that just took down UGA. They're good. They'll probably be ranked by the end of the year. Losing by 7 to a team like ECU the week after an emotional win over OSU is not that bad, nor should it look bad.
