Jalen Dalton down to VT, UNC, and Miami, Will Probably Decide in Aug or Sept

Mason Linker of Winston-Salem Journal provided an informative update to Dalton's recruitment: http://www.journalnow.com/sports/high_school/football/titans-de-dalton-r....

"It's probably between Virginia Tech, (North) Carolina and possibly Miami," the affable Dalton said this week. "I was thinking about it the other night, and theres no point in waiting. I will probably make my decision in August or September."

Kai Locksley Committed to FSU

https://floridastate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1664546

Florida State has been hoping to add on a second quarterback commitment to the 2015 recruiting class to join De'Andre Johnson.

A couple four-star signal-callers make up the short list of contenders - Kai Locksley and Deondre Francois. Locksley, from Baltimore, Md, recently narrowed his list to Florida State, Texas and Maryland, with the Seminoles and Longhorns well out in front. On Thursday, he narrowed that list to one picking the Seminoles despite the fact that Francois is scheduled to announce his decision later today.

ESPN will be taking questions for a live chat with Josh Sweat at noon today. If you want to ask him about his decision date, what qualities are important to him, who his favorite coaches are, ect... you can join here.

More on Josh Sweat's Official Visits from ESPN

The following are some excerpts followed by my thoughts from an ESPN insider article ($): http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/on-the-trail/post/_/id/573....

Jeremy Crabtree provided some good insights on Sweat's finalists.

Sweat insists he does not have a leader, but earlier this month at The Opening he identified several things he will be looking at on his official visits.

Two Recruiting Notes

Winterhaven 2015 OT Mike Arnold has seemingly named Virginia Tech his leader.

Tech needs tackles, so this is good news.

Also, I exchanged messages with Houshun Gaines and he's traveling to VT this weekend for a one-day visit. He's planning on \ hoping to visit Virginia too.

Post-Visit Adonis Williamson Update

As you guys probably saw on Twitter, 2015 3-star CB target Adonis Williamson went down to Tech for an unofficial visit this weekend with current Hokies commit DT Eric Whitehead.

I just got to talk to Whitehead himself for another article (stay tuned...) but he said Adonis loved his visit, saying it was "probably a 9/10 for him."

He added that Williamson "definitely wants to go back for an official visit."

I've seen some rumors that Adonis actually committed after the visit, but that doesn't seem to be true.

Thomas Guerry to join VT's recruiting staff?

It would appear that Thomas Guerry (@thomasguerry), a recruiting assistant at Georgia, is relocating to Blacksburg. Presumably, to join our recruiting staff.

I can't embed from my phone, but here are some links to tweets from him saying good bye and other accounts referencing him heading to Blacksburg. I've also included his UGA Athletics Profile.

Quick Adonis Williamson Recruiting Update

You guys probably all remember the update I posted on 2015 Hokies target and 3-star CB Adonis Williamson a few days ago, but his HS coach (Tony Henderson of Indianapolis' Arsenal Technical HS) finally got back to me for an interview, so I figured I'd pass along a few more details that stood out.

"Lebron Effect" for College Football Recruits

I thought this was a great read about the change in the recruiting landscape where top level recruits and trying to play with each other which they call the "Lebron Effect".

ESPN.com conducted a wide-ranging survey of the top 300 high school football recruits in the nation, and 68.5 percent of the respondents said they would rather join a class full of other elite recruits than be a big name on their own.

This is a shift in mentality from decades past. The Jordan days it was all about being on your own team and beating everyone else and nowadays its about getting the "super team" to win. I hope our coaches are using this as much as they possibly can.

Do prospects get caught up in their own "star" ratings?

I have always wondered if football/basketball high school prospects get caught up in how many "stars" recruiting sites give them. Do you think some of them look how many they are given online and say, "hey I'm 4/5 *'s, I need to be getting offers from ____ kind of schools/I should only be committing to to those kind of schools. I know recruiting as a whole is a huge part of it, but I do sometimes wonder if a prospect is given a high (4/5 stars) rating, does it influences him to committing to top tier schools instead of giving the not so top tier schools a chance by listening to what they have to offer and say. Just something that has always ran through my head being a recruiting junkie...
