Mascot Challenge

This may not be the place for it, but I want to get word out there and see if people can spread the word...

The ECU Pirate is currently beating our beloved Hokie Bird over at the Capital One Bowl Mascot challenge. This will not do...considering the first week, there were plenty of links all over FB and such, we had a huge win over our last opponent.

We can't lose to ECU...especially in the week our team plays them.

"Foe"Rensics: East Carolina

Hello. Welcome to the third installment of "Foe"Rensics. It seems there was a decided preference for incorporating some actual real facts into this, so I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes. As always, there may be places where I've stretched the truth a bit. This week, we're traveling to the pirate infested waters of Greenville1, NC, home of East Carolina.

Weekly Weather Report

As you all may know, I have expressed interest in doing our weekend weather reports for all of our fans and football fans. Well here goes my first attempt at doing something that hopefully becomes a weekly commodity! (I also apologize for the lateness of the report I hope to have an accurate report out at least a full two days before our games) also I apologize if my predictions are somewhat off, as I'm still kind of new at forecasting it will get better as the year progresses LUCKILY this week shouldn't be particularly hard.

Weather report for the weekend

Not entirely sure who I should talk to or anything but I'm part of the new meteorology program at tech and I'd love to give weather reports for saturday afternoons/nights, might not be particularly good this semester seeing as I'm still in a few entry level classes but I'd love to get in touch with the higher ups if possible for future forecasting!!! As for this weekend for those of whom are coming down its a pretty easy forecast, we've got some high pressure systems hanging out over the east coast at the moment and more from the west meaning its gonna be a hot and sunny day saturday most likely! bring your short sleeves and tailgating equipment its gonna be a perfect day for some college football!!!

Alabama Loss Sparks a Familiar Feeling

On Saturday night, as my friends and I filed out of the Georgia Dome, I experienced a bit of dj vu.

Despite the lopsided loss the Hokes just took at the hands of Alabama, I was overwhelmed by a feeling that was oddly familiar.

The last time it occurred, I was watching former Tech defensive linemen Jim Davis, hoisting his helmet high, smiling to his teammates and a throng orange and maroon-clad fans cheering wildly as the Hokies trotted off the field.

It was August 28, 2004. Virginia Tech was just defeated by No. 1 USC 24-13, the Hokies 4th consecutive loss. In fact, at that point, Tech had lost six of its past eight games dating back to the 2003 campaign.

Six Pick Week 2

Week one of the 2013 College Football season was a blur of driving, comic book nerds, bammers and great beer. Outside the CFA kickoff classic and the UGA/Clemson game, I missed most of the weekend. I'm ready to hunker down and watch football, but damn did it almost got real at my house. Luckily that crisis has been adverted as cable at BCO'S house has been restored and the world is almost at peace. I was oh so close to living at the bar from noon to midnight on Saturday and finding a DUI and/or a divorce attorney on Monday. Let's hope cable stays up for my well being.

Fullback Depth Chart

It seems that Brian Rody is now co-first team FB with Sam Rogers. Rody has jumped from third team QB to 4th string TE, back to dressing for the Bama game as QB and now it says that he is at FB. Does anyone know if their is any truth to this or is it some type of mistake? Very curious.

"Foe"Rensics: Western Carolina

Editor's Note: Bumped to the front because I couldn't stop laughing. --Joe

Hello. Welcome to the second installment of "Foe"Rensics. Acceding to the demands of my legions of fans (and to the fact that last week we played one of the most famous teams in college football that we've spent the last eight months talking about and this week we're playing a college no one has ever heard of that used to be a high school) I've decided to deepen my research past Wikipedia (and my imagination) in an attempt to include "facts". Please note, there may be places where I've stretched the truth a bit. This week, our journey of discovery takes us to Cullowhee, home of Western Carolina University.

The Tide managed just 14 points on offense against the Hokies. The other 21 came from a pick-six by Vinnie Sunseri, and a punt return and kickoff return by Christion Jones.

The starting point of something really special

My first post on here, but I'm an avid reader of all the blog posts. Just wanted to say that I went to the game in Atlanta and I don't see how anyone can come out of the game not feeling upbeat, even with the outcome of the game.

Here's my take from the game.

Strengths: Offensive line, which was previously a question mark made holes for our running game. Tech's 153 rushing yards were more than any opponent had against Alabama last year except for Texas A&M (165 yards). Seriously, did anyone expect our Offensive Line to perform this well against one of the best D-line's in the country?

Saban Praised Our Offensive Line

Saban probably said it best when he was asked about Virginia Techs offensive line during his postgame news conference: They outplayed us up front, if you want to know the truth.

I was impressed with our offensive line against Bama as well. We only gave up 1 sack to an Alabama team known for their smothering defense. I am sure as the season goes on, our offense will get better. I was a little disappointed we were trying to throw the ball so much, but it definitely seems we are on the right track.

0-1 AGAIN....

Well it's upon us once again, we have single handedly eliminated ourselves from the national title picture before the damn season has gotten into full swing. This is the 6th or 7th year in a row where he have lost in the opening weeks. As fan I am just plain tired of it. I believe big game Beamer has refused to adapt to the way college ball has changed and evolved over the years. There is no more pride and joy in special teams, our offense is lackluster at best. Our offense hasn't been prepared to score in these kinds of games for awhile now. Being ready isn't on the players it's on the coaches. I understand coaches can't make you catch the ball when it hits you in the hands.
