2015 DT Tim Settle will be visiting the #hokies this weekend.— Mike Farrell (@rivalsmike) September 30, 2013
To start with, when it comes to NFL teams, I'm basically a fan of Hokies that are in the NFL and pretty much in starting positions. None moreso than the only qb in Tech history to take them to the championship game than MV7. Obviously I feel disappointed with the way he (and his team) have been performing (1-3).
I understand that most folks on here have their own teams they align themselves with. My question, after this game, is this the beginning of the decline of MV7 as a starter or will it be after this season? Thoughts, reflections, reactions, etc.
After last week, we should be at 2-2. This week, we face the Oregon Duck.
Show him who's the better bird.
Rated the #1 ILB for class of '12 coming out of HS and signed with UVA. Now at DT....what?? #Newhoos lol
Mike London says he'd like to get LB Kwontie Moore more reps at DT this week. "We're trying to find ways to get guys in the game." #UVa— Cavs Journal (@CavsJournal) September 16, 2013
Hello everybody! Hope everyone enjoyed the stressful and joyous Win over Georgia Tech!
As we slip into the month of October, with a 4-1 record, our 3 home game stretch is giving us the blues. and by that I mean shades of blueL: Carolina Blue, Navy Blue, and Royal Blue. We are Hunting for a VERY ATTAINABLE 3-0 record this month, but let's not count our eggs before they hatch. we did that last year against Pitt. So I'd just like to take a moment, discuss each game, covering as much as I can from Uniforms, to what scares me (as it should any Hokie Fan). So enjoy, leave comments if you want, love to hear it.
NORTH CAROLINA
For those watching college football games right now:
First observation: Love the UNC field/helmets for their military appreciation day.
Second observation: Excited for the UVA smackdown today.
Today, Edward Aschoff, the ESPN backup SEC blogger, wrote a review of the game last night. For once, ESPN got it right. There was praise towards Logan and Scott Loeffler.

Well that was fun. I don't know of any Hokie fans who expected a performance like that on either side of the ball. I mean we all knew the defense was really good, but this was a whole 'nother level. Even though I almost went into cardiac arrest for the fourth time in two games, I really expected nothing less than a one-score game. Let's break down all of the spectacularity (may or may not be a word):
After watching last year's team struggle with leadership and execution. To see how this team is fighting is a breath of fresh air. We may not blow anyone out this year but this team will not give up and will fight tooth and nail to win games. You can see it in their eyes and in their play. May not be our best team ever but I can tell you one thing, we will surprise people the rest of this year. ACC, WATCH OUT CAUSE WE'RE BACK
What a night!

I don't want to sound like I'm overreacting to this one game, but Bonner did play pretty bad tonight. Plus it's pretty well known that he's not the best in pass coverage. My question is, would Exum be a good replacement for Bonner? I mean Exum played CB last year so clearly he's pretty good in pass coverage and if I remember correctly, he played safety the year before so he would have experience. I think we all agree that "IF" Exum is 100% when he comes back, then we would want him on the field. But with Jarrett, Kyle and the 2 freshman CB's playing so well, don't see him taking any of their spots. So the one spot he could take would be Bonner's and it just so happens to be that he's not playing that well.
This is what we're wearing for the game tonight
Not all-maroon everything but close.
Here's my happy song:
I didn't want to post this. I didn't want to even pull the numbers. I'd already seen a couple of ranking systems, and they mostly all really like Georgia Tech this year. After Marshall I said Georgia Tech would open at about a 10 point spread, and it turns out that I was almost right on the consensus:
Not surprising, given these rankings:
So where is each teams strength? At this point I think we're mostly interested in quantifying strengths and weaknesses rather than identifying them. Needless to say, our strength is defense and theirs is offense:
After last weeks game, Shane Beamer commented on how "Joel Caleb was pissed at me" for not getting him enough playing time...
In the few snaps he's gotten, Joel has looked pretty smooth at the position and ran tough. His pass protection has looked good, and we all know he can catch out of the backfield.
It's been documented on this site that Trey is still improving at identifying the correct holes - - sometimes he is not patient enough - - in the zone blocking schemes and his Yards After Contact has not been necessarily stellar. Don't get me wrong, Trey is clearly our best option at the position, and is a very good RB, but I would like to see Joel Caleb get a few more snaps.
EDIT: Sorry for posting this early, I had to rush off to a meeting and "save" means post as I found out.
Like many of you, I'm unfortunately a fan of Virginia Tech basketball. It's only less painful that being a Virginia Tech football fan because the expectations aren't as high. But not every Hokie is a fan of Virginia Tech basketball because our team hasn't made going to the games a mandatory experience.
