We're in third place, at the top of a long list of 5-2, facing a 5-2. A loss this week will place the Hokie Bird close to not making the playoffs.
We're facing WKU Big Red, or whatever the hell it's called. We're currently losing with 44%. Spread the word!
Everybody knows the Hokie Bird is the word!
First off, yes Florida State is really good. We know that. But after reading so much on this site as well as others about the strength of the ACC this season, I looked further in depth at FSU's success against teams outside the conference, and who FSU's opponents have played outside of the ACC. For example, the Clemson smashing is obviously the most impressive win on the Seminoles' schedule right now. But who was Clemson's most impressive win over? A 4-3 Georgia team by 3 points. While Georgia has good wins as well, they have 3 losses. I took this approach to all of FSU's opponents to date.
There is a sign behind Desmond that says "FIRE LONDON". Blue and orange writing.
Makes me wonder...is this a Clemson student (wanting the conference to be relevant)? A UVA student who travels to Clemson to watch football (you're right that impossible)?
It's taken close to 10 years, but it seems like the ACC is finally at a point where it can seriously contend with the SEC. The ACC officially has 4 legitimate teams that contend for a title every year: FSU, Clemson, Miami, and of course VT. This is certainly what the ACC envisioned when they first expanded the league to 12 teams. Adding Louisville next year will certainly help our image as well.
Did I miss the giftory this week?
Was there too much awesomeness to create one?
I'm feeling a little withdrawal right now.
Just browsing the Sabre, and someone on there was trying to tout LOLUVa as one of 2 schools that have been ranked #1 in both football and basketball. Since 1980!!! Yes, going back that far...you know, stretching it out.
Well, he brilliantly came up with UVA and Florida. That's it. Thinking they were in some sort of elite company.
I can think of quite a few others, recently....
Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Syracuse, Bama
A few others not quite sure about...Michigan State, Stanford, F$U, Clemson, UCLA, Notre Dame?
Anyone confirm/deny these or think of anyone else?
Welcome to Week 8, I dub thee, insufferable objects (FSU fans) vs unstoppable mouf (Dabo Swinney). Every other game, mostly due to Stanford choking are appetizers to the main course at 8 pm Saturday night. Winner in this game will almost certainly be the ACC Atlantic representative in the ACCCG and will take a huge step towards the BCSCG. The loser of the game will still have a great shot at an at-large BCS bid (Sugar.) The atmosphere is going to be electric and a huge ACC showcase game. I hope for a great game, just don't ask me to pick a side, I can't openly root for either team.

Editor's Note: After you finish reading, it'll become obvious that Zach put an enormous amount of effort into charting and subsequent analysis. Bumped to front. Enjoy. --Joe
During the week leading up to the Georgia Tech game on Sept. 26, I saw a lot of Internet hate going Logan Thomas' way. Through four games in 2013, Thomas, once touted as a top-five NFL draft prospect, had completed just 65 of his 134 passes for a miserable 48.5 completion percentage, four touchdowns and six interceptions already one more than his goal for the season.
As many know, Logan performed admirably in 2011, completing 59.8 percent of his passes for 3,013 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. However, during his first year as Frank Beamer's starting signal caller, Thomas was surrounded by a myriad playmakers, including the top two receivers, statiscally speaking, in school history in Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin, as well as David Wilson, who would run for a school-record 1,709 yards that season.
Hello. Normally during "Foe"Rensics we take an in depth look at this week's opponents. Sorry to say (and I really hope I'm not the one breaking this to anyone because I hate causing sadness) but we're on a bye this week, meaning Saturday will be cold, gray and empty for many of us. That also means we have no opponent to "Foe"Rensize, so this week we're using our investigative skills to INVENT THE FUTURE.
Not too long ago, it was brought to my attention that some folks to the northeast of us were having a bit of fun at our wide variety of helmets and uniforms. I know, I know, it's pretty awful being looked upon favorably by the uniform and helmet suppliers enough that they help make possible these abominations that are good recruiting tools, honor the military, honor the community and contribute to charities (like here, here, here, here, and here). But luckily, not every fan base has to put up with stuff like this. While even programs such as Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), and Wyoming1 have sunken to the sad, unsightly realm of customized helmets, some of the more honorable, history-laden programs have chosen not to sell themselves so cheaply.
I remember as if it were yesterday. A boring Saturday night in May of 2012, I was sitting in my room on my laptop on ESPN. Suddenly I direct my attention to a video of Mel Kiper's top 5 draft prospects for 2013. At number 4 was Logan Thomas. For some odd reason, this got me pumped up and it made me buy into the hype. So from May-September 3rd, 2012 I just thought that the 2012 team may end up being the best Tech team yet. Let's see, great QB, good running game, and a dominant defense. How could you possibly not predict a great season? Well, boy was I wrong.
I love lists. Top Ten, bottom ten, whatever. Here's a list of ways that I came up with to pass the time during the BYE week. (Note to paper airplane throwers, etc. This is not the week that the Hokies play Brigham Young East. There will be no first half for you to show up at this weekend. Enjoy.)
We won last week, and we face Kansas this week.
We hold 6th place, with Sparty and Red facing each other, which means we can jump to 5th this week with a victory.
Peedee the Pirate lost this week, which shows he can be beaten. So, if we end up in the playoffs and facing him, we need people to show up and vote.
Keep it up!
I think that feels about right. But just to show how crazy (stupid) the polls are:
7 teams ranked higher than us lost yesterday.
4-2 UGA is ranked ahead of us. You can can make the tougher schedule agreement, but we lost to #1. They lost to Clemson and (then) unranked Mizzou...who they were heavily favored over. Plus. They are only one spot ahead of Mizzou, who just crushed them. 3 undefeated teams are ranked lower???
Stanford lost to unranked Utah. Ranked above us.
Oklahoma got killed by rutterless Texas. Ranked above us.
Not saying we're world beaters but our season body of work is stronger than those 3.
Just because you start the year higher doesn't mean you're better now.
VT moves up to #19 in the AP top 25.
Am I the only one who felt like that game was like, 30-3 by halftime? The Hokies absolutely stuffed, dominated, and domesticated the Panthers all game long, so it was surprising and a little disappointing that the final score was only a 10-point differential.
None other than K. Herbie just picked Pitt as his upset of the week...
A Terp alum goes on the Sabre to say goodbye, and hopes that the rivalry will resurrect in the future, you know, being bordering states and all. (Not because MD beat them, that's for sure...)
And he gets back something to the effect of "I wish you could move the entire University!"
Stay Classy C'ville.
