This Many People Attended UVa's Spring Game

This photo was tweeted by Norm Wood of the Daily Press who added, "Here's a mid-first quarter shot of #UVA's spring game crowd (lots of folks in the shaded sections)".

At the time of posting, no official attendance was announced.

By comparison, here's the Hoo's turnout in 2013 and 2012.

Precisely, they just don't care. They think they do but, we know the truth

According to Roanoke.com, "The Cavaliers ... didnt make the necessary plays in a 7-1 loss to Clemson before a crowd of 4,886, a season high at Davenport Field." So that's a pretty weak excuse.

Looks like the UVA Spring Game attendance jokes will live on for at least another year!

Seriously, if you are a recruit, how do you even consider that school when you see apathy like that?

Norm Wood's tweets were killing me:

Seriously those are awesome and made my day even better.

one of the best rolls down the hill I've ever seen

I was rolling too...

I can attest that there were several kids on the hill that were more interesting than the play on the field. After the game, I saw one 12-13 year old kid make a sweet one handed grab on a toss from one of his friends. Word has it that London wants to offer him.

"No decision yet", but how many times has there ever been a back up QB team captain?

VT '15

No, Mike London is just a master of deception.

Prediction: Before the kickoff of UVA's first game, London will call a timeout to change his captain.

I'm not sure London knows he's allowed to call time out.

He and Chris Webber have so much in common.

"And it is caught, it is caught for a touchdown"

Considering Dadi is going to be coming off the end and Bud Stout is calling the plays, I'd say it's more like Greyson Lamb-led to the slaughter-t

I had promised a report on a different thread, and since there's one dedicated to the abyss known as Scott stadium, I'll post my report here. I worked at the stadium, so I subjected myself to the mess they call football at LOLUVA, so none of you have to.

Crowd was approximately 3,000-3,500. Keep in mind that the crowd includes the LOLUVA band (they're the ones in orange around the 30 yd line on the far side - approx. 50 or so members); the families of the players (who else would come and watch this voluntarily?); and recruits and their families (there were approximately 50 recruits, add about 2 family members per recruit, and you're talking about 150 people). In other words, very few of the people at the game would have been there as fans. Maybe 2,000. And the people who are happiest are those who didn't come. Very, very bad football.

I kinda wish I went for the sheer comedic value

The U invented Swag, but UVA invented Smug.

VT '10, Born & Raised in the 804. Hokies, Keydets, Army Black Knights, NY Giants, NY Rangers, and ATL Braves.

It was more sad than funny. I haven't seen any stat lines, but there seemed to be very few completed passes. A nice catch on the first TD of the day, but it wasn't an exceptionally well thrown ball. Not to defend LOLUVA, but there were 18 or so players out with injuries, mostly starters. They had no receivers that could stretch the field, and if they did have one, they don't have anyone who could deliver the ball.

It would be pretty funny if Tech students organized a road trip to that, and just stood and did 'Let's Go...Hokies!' the whole time. Other than a random sorority objecting, I imagine that would be the only flak...

BRILLIANT

"And loud, listen for yourself..." - Ron Franklin

I was JUST ABOUT TO SAY THIS

How hilarious would it be if we outnumbered their fans at their own spring game, singing our fight songs and just causing chaos.

We should wait until the next one is televised, although who knows when that one will be. The best way to go about doing this is to find the way to maximize the exposure of our brand owning their stadium.

Wait...we do that already, this would just announce it to the masses.

And this was with the Valpak ticket package and the knowledge that Mike London gave each team 6 timeouts to work with, so how could you possibly want to be anywhere else??

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

And, ya know, today was absolutely gorgeous. Perfect day to head outside, tailgate, drink some booze, watch some football. Now, I realize Hoo fans weren't able to do that last thing on the list today, but they could've at least gone into the stadium to nap after their tailgate.

To me, it just looks like a normal LOLUVA crowwd. What's the little deal?

Just a quick question, was the game started before or after tea? This could explain the large number of people who attended this year.

I still don't know why any top recruit would even think about playing for UVA after seeing this. anyways, this makes me happy.

"People who like to brag about how smart they are, are never as smart as they claim." - Colin Cowherd

Sorry, but when did calling someone a "tool" become classy?

People are obviously given the opportunity to voice their opinion on Twitter, but I don't think the response was warranted and doesn't represent the VT community. The classy route would be to not respond or, if nothing else, not resort to personal attacks. Personally I'm glad that the TKP staff would never get into a spat like that on Twitter.

Trash talk is part of the rivalry and makes things fun. However, a personal attack, even if the person is obnoxious, from an essentially anonymous account that might be construed to represent the university, isn't appropriate. That's my 2 cents anyway.

I'm not sure you got the context in which classy was used

Here's my take since everyone fancies themselves "fluent in sarcasm" these days: describing the conversation as classy added nothing to the humorous value of the post. Did you read the tweets and think, "oh, those are even more hilarious because it was described as classy yet it wasn't?" Since the intended sarcasm didn't add any value, the comment failed to function as sarcasm.

I'm not going to bother commenting any further, but I don't think TKP would be enjoyable to read if it largely consisted of twitter spats. Twitter is free and open to anyone who wants that kind of content.

Gotta disagree.

Shake's right on here. I'm all for bashing LOLUVA fans and as the Vote for Maddy poll exhibits I don't mind taking it straight to them or anyone, but I have a few issues with this.

1) Nothing VtMaroonUni wrote was at all clever or interesting. It was just trash talk.
2) The douche from Cville is right. VTMUni is stalking a LOLUVA twitter feed. Why? That would be like reading the Sabre.
3) I believe classy would had been responding to something said about the Hokies, or at least responding with some whit. And not calling some dude a tool because he is supporting his team. This is what I expect from LOLUVA fans.

Sorry, I guess it's just me and Shake but I expect more, A LOT more, from Hokie fans when they throw down with fans. If you can't beat them with style then you shouldn't be playing in the first place.

and then I read the rest of the posts below this.... fantastic

It added something to it. It added irony which is humorous. You read classy and expected one thing, then you got something completely different.

Also your point to TKP is almost irrelevant since it will never become that. There's the occasional twitter spat from fans, current and former players, and coaches. Besides if someone was going to change their opinion of the university because of a fan website having occasional foul language or a non respectable comment their mind was already made up on the matter.

I don't really think something like this will have an impact on how people view TKP or VT unless it's more extreme and frequent.

I get what you are saying, and agree to a point, but..... IDK about "classy". Not sure I want to be "classy". Sounds like a hoo thing. I am good with "stout", "respectable", "feared", "Rogers".

Fortune Favors the Bold

I agree, maybe i should have put ****Sarcastica*** in front. My bad, but I did find it funny that he said stalk opponents twitter feed.. how did he see it?? I think the tool reference was because the kid kept coming back at the feed like it was directed at him...which it wasn't until he stepped in, its rivalry banter that obviously he didn't like.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

No, you're absolutely right. That was my mistake as I don't understand sarcasm nor possess any sense of humor. That twitter fight was only rivaled in it's hilarity and classiness by it's relevance to the topic. If it were a recruit, I'd give it 5 stars and alert a bagman with close ties to the SEC.

I am finding this hard to believe, so I did a little research...
1) It was on Good Friday. 7pm.
2) It was raining.
3) No official report from the Athletic Department on attendance.
So I'm taking this with a grain of salt and probably chalking that specific number up as rumor mill fodder. The picture was probably taken towards the end of the game.

Further reports show a max estimate of maybe 1,500 people showed up for their game.

Since we're talking about numbers at Spring Games, I thought I'd share a thought I had this morning listening to the radio.

In central VA is a radio station called Hit Kicker 99.7 and every weekday morning on my way to work, they have some guy that they call "Coach" do the sports. Well, this morning he was talking about the UVA baseball team and the crowd of 14,000 or so they had at the game and he was like "That's some crowd I tell you."

Without missing a beat, I immediately said out loud, "That's because you're not used to seeing that at football games."

That "guy" they call coach is Sonny Randle. Former wahoo player and coach. He coached for two seasons (1974-75) and had a Mike-London-inspiring 5-17 record. His morning segments are on several radio stations in the Charlottesville area. While he has a folksy manner, I think his years in the NFL have removed any kind of logic from his brain. I think he may be the crazy uncle in the basement that Ross Perot referred to.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I knew that guy had to be a wahoo when he picked ECU to beat VT last season. I know it was absolutely possible, but he's on a radio station in VA and he picked ECU to upset a VA team on a VA radio station!

There are days he reminds me of someone else...I can't quite put my finger on it...

No comparison. Lou has a natty championship ring....Sonny has a coupon to Wood Grill Buffet.

Only comparison I make is their manner of speaking, along with continuously talking about their former football programs as if they're the best teams out there, just in down years waiting to return to former glory...except there was no former glory for Sonny.
