Post Scrimmage Interview with Frank

I know there will be more coming from TKP staff soon , but just wanted to share the short post scrimmage interview between Bill Roth and Coach Beamer.

  • Typical "Frank-isms" of liking the team and playing tough
  • Running backs popped a few big ones
  • Decision on QB coming very soon

This makes me so happy:

Its good but we also gave up a blocked FG for a TD so there is that too.

But Kendall did it, so you can probably pretty safely assume he jumped about 8 feet, caught the ball in midair, flipped himself upright without hitting the ground, and then took it the distance. Or something like that.

Well, isn't it always a double edged sword when you play yourselves?

Indeed. I look on the bright side because it was Kendall. Dude is a ridiculous athlete, hyperbole about Fuller genetics aside. Had it been "mysterious backup guy #2" blocking a punt, I'd be less enthused.

Whoo! Beamerball!

If Frank is excited about the football team, then I'm excited. He's been doing it for a long time.

Seriously, I can't get over just how much better Beamer is looking this year compared to last year. Am I the only one seeing this? He just seems a little more loose, a little more energetic, speaking a little more clearly... just overall less like an old guy. It makes me happy.

I think that at this point last year, the coaches, and Beamer specifically, were kind of disappointed by all the injuries. They had a plan and it just wasn't going to get executed last year. This year, every thing is falling into place for a big upset on Sept. 6!

Agree they looked down last year because of injuries hurtinf their plans. Didn't like the fact we didn't have more guys ready to step in though. As optimistic as I am about this year we are one or two injuries away from being in the same boat this year.

I think we have more depth though at every position on the offense except QB. However, certain key injuries on defense could be very bad.

Actually, I think our QB depth this year is much better than it was last year. I'm not so sure if our starter will be as good, but I don't think we'll see as drastic of a drop-off between #1 and #2 (and even #3) as we did last year. A QB injury won't derail our season as it very well could have last year.

He does seem to be more upbeat in the halls in stuff when I've run into him recently. More so than the last couple years anyway. Had to help him check his text on his iphone a couple weeks ago and he even made a joke about it, so he is in good spirits right now I'd say.

This is more exciting to me than anything else. If Frank has passion for what's going down this season, I think that's real good.

Remember that the first team was going against the 2nd and 3rd team and Leal and Brewer still threw for just a combined 14 of 36.

Remember we didn't get to see a single one of those passes. We don't know if it was a blown play, great D, drop, throw out of bounds, or whatever. Judging QB play purely by the completion stat is silly.

Also given that Loeffler praised all the QBs for ball security and throwing it away when needed, and that there was only 1 INT (on a tipped ball that should have been caught), I agree completely.

Yeah y'all are probably right.

Leg. By the way, welcome to the site! I don't know if you're a long time lurker or not, but be sure to check out the Welcome Thread. And I'm with Joe. I hate it when people don't have a profile pic.

At some point I am going to change the default picture to a Mike London selfie.

Or the famous "YOU!" letter.

Why not both? (Excuse the Paint quality)

Coupled with 5 offensive TD, 3 made FG, and 183 yd rushing, I'm not too concerned by that particular stat line. It does seem like there's inconsistency, though - a few big plays sounded like they set things up, then they went 1-for-16 on 3rd down conversions. So it sounds to me like everyone is a bit streaky - the D holds stout except for giving up some big plays (concerning) and the O still can't consistently drive down the field, but they have enough playmakers to make some big gains (65 yd TD by Newsome, 35 yd TD by Byrn, 50 yd run by Shai, etc).

EDIT: just read Mike Barber's post and he noted that those passes accounted for 385 yd = 568 yd of total offense. Hard to read too much into that, of course, against our 2's and 3's, but it's not dismal.

Yeah, that was a big thing Lefty was talking about at the cookout on Sunday, just not being consistent. He's seen some really, really good things from the offense throughout camp (which is why we're hearing about how excited everyone is), but they need to become more consistent. I think this pretty much follows the typical thought that this year could be pretty good, but 2015 could be GREAT.

JC 80 yard TD taken away due to penalty. The 183 yards also included about 20 yards in sacks.
