Most of us, including me, were not yet born the last time tOSU lost a home opener (1978). Bud Foster was a linebacker and strong safety at Murray State and had not yet crossed paths with Frank Beamer, who would join the staff the following year. In Columbus, they have a football tradition rivaled by few. They also have a current string of success. While we have endured two tough seasons, tOSU has completed two undefeated regular seasons. There is a reason the media is writing it up like they are.
The game poster at 11 Warriors shows an ax and a tree stump. What they dont know is that it is Moorehead and Co. who have been furiously choppin wood, day by day, piece by piece.

There is a 2,400 lb bell that rings for 20 minutes after each tOSU victory. What is the slogan for our team this year? NEVER ring the bell. Coincidence? I choose to think not.
This one just feels different. I do not believe this group is content with merely being a part of the hoopla and spectacle that awaits them in Columbus. I do not think they are there to be on ESPN at primetime to make a cameo appearance in front of the eyes of the college football nation. I honestly think they are coming to Columbus to take heads, coming to slay some demons that have haunted this program, to show everyone what has been in the works this year while they have labored long and hard while far outside the limelight, to give a loud and clear shots fired warning that Hokie football is back.

Well said.

STAR BRINGING YORBEL!
Did someone give you some fermented fruit, Horse?
Wayside school is falling down?
YES! Sideways Stories from Wayside School!
I've been watching this for 5 minutes now. All the rooms look the same! It won't end!
I have thought since early Summer that we would win this game. And that was before Miller got hurt. I still feel it.
Yea, the Bama game last year we all kinda knew we had no chance. We tried to convince ourselves otherwise but we knew the truth. It was a matter of pride in that game. This game doesn't, at least to me, feel like we just have a chance, it feels like we should win. With Braxton out I know we should win, now let's go get it.
I thought we had a decent chance at making the Bama game interesting given the state of our defense and truthfully I was pumped up for a win because of billdozerVT's video... but at the end of the day it was Bama and it was a tall order given our inconsistent offense.
This game though is honestly a good match-up and OSU fans don't see it coming.

"Great moments are gained from great opportunity". YES**, YES*** and YES**** CARPE DIEM!!!!
All I know is, even if we do not prevail this weekend, we get them in Lane on Labor Day next year. I'm looking forward to the assbeating we're going to deliver that night.
I'll have a Nebraska style sweep, please. Yes, make that 2.

"Hey Batdad, I didn't hear no bell"

Am I the only one that is completely lost on the apparent symbology in their gameday poster? WTH does a tree have to do with anything. I mean, I would get it if they were playing Stanford, but WHAT????
Assuming they were playing on the turkey thing, like they were going to take us out back and cut our heads off.
Assuming...
Then there's the revised one with the dead nut and Hokie tracks away from the tree.
I'll never understand the original but someone went and made that poster better, it seems.
If it plays out like we all hope it does, I am looking forward to putting the original poster on the wall of my garage to remind me of the trip to Columbus.
Which one is this said poster w the Hokie tracks walking away from the tree? I saw both on the website but they both look the same.
It was a hack 10 min photoshop but I was really expecting some of those anOSU fans that were on the site to comment on it. Looks like I scared them away instead. Glad you like it though.
Once again I am cautiously optimistic. When I was watching the W&M game I thought to myself that this is the best I have seen the team play in the first game of the season in a long time. The offensive line looked like they knew what they were doing, the running backs got their act together, the tight ends and receivers were doing their thing and Brewer looked poised and in control the whole time. The defense was, well, a Bud Foster unit. The whole game felt like we were in control and I didn't have a knot in my stomach. That was the optimistic part.
The cautious part is knowing that W&M, no matter how good they are in the FCS, are still an FCS team. anOSU is much, much better, and playing in their house gives them a decided advantage.
But, what the hell, we're going to win anyway! 31 - 24 VT owns the horseshoe.
The other FCS games seemed like we won due to superior athletic ability. Last Saturday, we won because we played better as a team than W&M, the better athletes just made it a decisive victory.
THIS^^^^^ 2 things that stood out to me saturday... we executed plays the correct way. we all know we could line up and play tacklelocco with w&m and beat them every time with the tallent we have but i feel like we actually out coached a team that pretty much knew everything we were going to do before the game. i cant tell you when that has EVER happened for a VT football team even agaisnt an FCS foe. weve always had to rely on superior athletes making plays to win those games even in blow outs we against FCS teams we would have to depend on tyrod to make plays and "allow: recievers to get open by buying time in the pocket, we would have to go to 3rd and logan and put him at risk. last saturday i saw us play a game with ease and not because of tallent but because of coaching! The other thing i saw was the 2 headed monster backfield start to emerge that we miss so much in blacksburg! i know that this wasnt the best due to ever hit our back field but i think at this point right now shai and marshawn compare to ore and humes in 2005 and IMO as freshman thats a pretty dang good start! im hoping they end up being suggs and jones hopefully as soon as the end of the season. ive always loved humes downhill running and thought we was an under appriciated back here at tech and i think ore had he not had off the field issues would have been one of our best backs we saw come through blackburg as well. Im hoping these guys keeping picking up momentum this week in the shoe but i have no reason to not believe that they will.
honestly my ONLY big concern about this game is the special teams. please kick off out the back of the endzone and punt it with some hangtime i dont want to see our star linebacker *cough *cough punter having to make any open field tackles.
Don't forget Trey. It'll be a three-headed monster before this season's over.
mike emoh still had 400 yrds in 2005 and marcus vick added another 400 so if we can get an even 800 out of trey! then me likey very much!
I couldn't agree more. It feels unlike any of the other big OOC match-ups we've had over the last few years. I have the same feeling I did before the GT game last year; a game in which we were 7 point underdogs on the road. While this isn't a sparse crowd of nerds in Atlanta, the feeling is the same. The defense will show up, the offense will do enough, and we will win.
There is a 2,400 lb bell that rings for 20 minutes after each tOSU victory. What is the slogan for our team this year? NEVER ring the bell. Coincidence? I choose to think not.
I freakin LOVE ^that^. Ha! Well said!
Yeah, this one feels different to everyone, and I find that interesting. Is it the closed summer practicing? Is it the new guys?
I really really don't like anOSU. Obviously want a win. We could really use a marquee matchup win. And then the reality of the task sets in. Our OL is....well..our OL. Our DL is smallish. Our LBs... they aren't exactly Hall & Adibi back there. I'm afraid of a run run run run run slow death by 3 yards a pop.
But then I see our TEs. Our WRs. Our new QB from ebay; used, but in great condition. I don't know what to make of this game, but I love the excitement. It is good to have that back in Hokie nation
This one does feel a little different. I think there are enough cracks in buckeye armor to make this game more interesting than the experts think. My big concerns are their defensive line and receiving corps.
Our secondary, which can shut down anyone, needs to be on point this game because they have talented receivers. We've been burned by passing game that takes advantage of tight ends matched up against our LB before, and they have a great tight end, while we seem to be a little light in the LB area.
Their defensive line is their best unit, and most of our OL hasn't seen that level of talent before. Some have, like against Alabama last year, but Teller and Conte weren't playing last year. This will be our biggest challenge.
If we can win either one of these match ups, I think the day will be ours. If we lose both, it will be a long ride home.
Hopefully the team and coaching staff feel that way too
The Junkies on 106.7 has been really helping my need for this game with them blasting Enter Sandman before their show starts every morning.
I really want to see Bucky more involved this week. The guy is a matchup nightmare and would really love to see him get rolling in this offense ala Jimmy Graham in New Orleans.
Have a feeling we were holding him back last week. This week in the pregame speech, Loeffy is going to end it going
Destruction will commence
The guys at the end are anOSU's defense
UNLEASH!!!
krak_t do likes the kraken.
Feels different, I think we're going to win the turnover battle in a big game. Turnovers are going to win this one, which offense doesn't put their defense in the hole. It's the first game that if we can keep it close, I think we can pull away. We have a deep backfield to run the ball, a lot. A DC that can win games. An offensive coordinator that knows how to scheme, a QB that see the whole picture.
I'm hoping for a quiet night in Columbus.
I can't shake that feeling either. More than any other "big game" in recent years, I think the chances are good we come out of there with a win. Maybe even a big win. Never felt that way about Bama. Never felt that way about Boise even. Play loose, play physical, play smart, and we'll stick it to em
It's bad. I get so giddy about our team this year. I think we have no reason to be worried about any team anymore. We seem to be finally well equipped to compete with any team. Let's face it, if the offense or the kickers had scored at least one or two other times during certain games, we would have our 10 wins. The "Duke" game? The defense literally played their hearts out. This years offense with last years defense would have been insane. Oh well, the needs of the team have pretty much been addressed, now we'll have to wait the season out. Go HOKIES!
Mentioned this in another thread, but felt it fit here too.
On game day, Kirk mentioned how this feels like the Hokie team of old. Lot of young talent.
12:48 AM, Columbus, no bell
