I know, I know... It's over 2.5 months away. Still early. However, after the announcement of our new coordinator and coaches I am unnaturally stoked for spring ball and the game. Our hotel has been booked since November (we drive down, visit the Relay For Life-family is big into that) and spend the night. We're also planning on tailgating this year.
I'm really hoping we will see the offensive give the defense some fits this year. I think Moorehead brings a certain competitive atmosphere within the team we haven't seen before which is great for spring ball.
Here's to hoping for no rain again! See y'all there. Go Hokies. #BeatBama.

Rain Rain go away
Hopefully with all the rain and snow we have had so far, the rain holds off this year come spring game time.
Running game
I can't wait to see how Chris Mangus, Trey Edmunds, Laurence Gibson and Mark Shulman have come along.
I've been watching old VT trailers and been getting excited because the new staff remind me of those teams in the past. Add in that everyone has us down, and it's becoming very familiar. We play better when we aren't expected to do well...
Spring game can't come soon enough. I'm really excited to see what Trey Edmunds could potentially do for our offense. Also I'm excited to see if Loeffler's work with Logan will show.
Does anyone know the day spring practices start? And when some of the open scrimmages are?
Hoping to win some sideline passes for it, at the local recruit night!
Whoa, that'd be really cool. I just got a new DSLR camera and sideline passes would be darn near perfect. Good luck!
You would be lucky if they let you bring it in. Usually they prohibit those. I know specifically they prohibit cameras longer than 6 inches.
Doesn't really matter. I don't have an opportunity to win anyways haha.
tickets
I hope there are still tickets available
Just me?
Any one else excited we shouldn't see this for at least the next three years?
http://hokiehighs.tumblr.com/post/21883776806/vt-punters
hahahahahaha
Are you saying that the walk-on from Abingdon will be good?
Soph/R-Fresh
I'm saying Hughes for the next 3 years and I'm guessing Windmuller redshirted so that is at least another year after that. You don't really see punters/kickers leaving early so I'd say it's a safe bet those two will be competing for the next couple years.
Here's your friendly "23 Days Until the Spring Game" reminder.
I think it's more like 28 days. It's the 20th.
Either way, can't wait! Haven't been to bburg since mike london's timeout fail. I miss that place.
You're right. I read the date calculator wrong haha.
The spring game is my birthday, so maybe I'll get some nice weather to go along with my football fix.
My Guard unit pushed up April's drill date, so I'll be able to make it this year!
One week away and the extended forecast looks okay so far. Hard to tell this far out. Anyone know of any recruits visiting for sure?
challenge accepted.
Are they even going to have 50k seats open to the public? Much less 60k. I seem to remember large sections of Lane being roped off in spring games past.
Also, where are these numbers from? Usually they do attendance figures based on ticket sales, but there's no tickets to ours (unless I'm REALLY missing something). Nebraska sold tickets to their Red-White game for $10: http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=206194072
Mostly pulling it from asses, as far as I can tell:
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/4/16/4230980/spring-game-a...
UVA is not even mentioned.
Edit: Fun fact - if you Google "uva 2013 spring game attendance" the second result is this thread: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2013/april/8/there-were-many-fans-uvas...
Obviously that means the list only shows the top 38, and they had less than 1200. But we already knew that.
I agree. Spring game attendance numbers are sketchy at best.
We just need to make Lane look as full as possible. That's what I take from this. Because the fuller it looks, the bigger "estimate" we get.
Also, UVA is not on that list because they "did not release attendance figures." Ha.
http://www.ukathletics.com/blog/2013/04/uk-second-in-early-spring-game-a...
An approximate attendance number will be taken by the staff at the gates. No tickets will be issued, but a headcount will be taken.
So what you're saying is we should walk in one gate, walk out another and just repeat with different gates all day?
As I understand it, there will only be one gate open.
Gates 1-7 will be open. The only one that would then be closed is Gate 8, which is the one leading in from the woods.
Anyone got a list of recruits that will be there?
Hearing Hand, Park, and Revis will be there.
Heard Noah Brown and Ryan Izzo from NJ
Having those 3 commit Saturday would absolutely make my day. I like our chances with all 3
I like our chances too, but Reavis recently said he plans to commit on 8/3: http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2013/4/3/4168054/ohio-state-recruiting-.... With that said, things change.
If I had to pick one of the three to verbal Saturday, it'd be Park.
I'd have to agree with you there, but did you see the tweet that Reavis said 2 schools stand out and he will commit when it feels right? I don't know how to embed a tweet, sorry. Hopefully that is good news for us though.
How about this?
Forecast from Thursday AM: "Saturday Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph."
No rain!
It's gonna be cold :\ but at least not thunderstorming
I am going to the explosion site near Waco tomorrow for work. Won't be able to be at the Spring Game now. I will be glued to this site though. Enjoy it guys.
Sending prayers your way down there, looks bad on TV.
My phone tells me 63 now! That is at least a little better.... also, I remember getting to go on the field after the last spring game I was at (other than the stormed out last year) to get autographs and such. Will we be able to Saturday?
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/20130418aaa.html
Yes, for one hour after the end of the scrimmage according to hokiesports.
Wish the weather was going to be warmer, but just glad I'll be going.
I can't freaking wait to see all of you cool people and not know who any of you are. Seriously, I'll be in a #11 Jersey (last year's Jersey) tailgating in a 2012 Chevy Silverado dooley with no booze.
If it ain't storming, I'm happy. Gonna be a blast.
If I see this, I'm yelling Warthogggg! It may be interesting if its not you though...
Well, if you see these cornhole boards you'll know it's me:
Love them! Me want. :)
Thanks! Made them myself with my mom and grandpa's help for my Dad as a Christmas gift! A TON of work from the painting aspect.
Worth the work man! You could sell them. Excellent job!
those are great. way better than my store bought ones. jealous.
Those are awesome.
I am just wondering, am I the only girl on here? Haha.
There are a few others, but you seem to be the most frequent these days.
Nope...I'm a girl too! Glad to see other women on this site who love VT just as much as I do. :)
Heck yes! :) I thought I was the only one obsessed with it as much as the boys!
Nah girl. I might be worse than some of my guy friends. LOL I love it! Can't wait to be in the LANE
tomorrow afternoon!!! :)
All you hardcore Hokie gals out there in TKP land give me hope that my 3 young daughters will one day be just as rabid VT fans as I have been since '82. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
I am, too! You're not alone.
My dad really wanted a little boy, but he didn't get my little brother until 8 years after I came along, so I was very exposed to sports and Tech football from an early age. My parents were Tech fans when you couldn't give football tickets away. I've been around so long, I have a Hokie Kid's Club pic with Jim Druckenmiller.
I definitely know more tham the average boy about football, for sure haha. Us girls should all meet up and take a picture for thekeyplay.com! Haha. I can't wait to be there tomorrow :) my dad never got his boy so I have grown up watching Tech with him and learned everything. Oh wow! Awesome!
Hell, no! I think I might have been the original token girl on here :P
Cant wait. Will be making the trip from NOVA leaving early early saturday morning with the girl friend (maryland grad bleh)
If you see someone tailgating outside a 10' Silver Camero SS with VT Alumni tags in a maroon 34 Ryan Williams/ Jarrett Jersey thats me! Probably be in the Mccomas lot!
Come say hi!
Hokies!
I will probably be on site around 11am, may hit up the softball game briefly, and I will head into the stadium around 1pm.
Heavy thunderstorms predicted today but sunny Saturday. Could today's rain interfere with game tomorrow, or do fields drain well enough so game goes on?
The drainage system is one of the best in the country, and the way the field is built, raised off of the actual foundation, no water actually accumulates for the most part. So I would say no, it won't affect the game if it rains today. Check out this article from when the changes to the field were made if you're that curious.
http://www.vtmagazine.vt.edu/fall01/sports.html
Now if only the drillfield had that... relay for life last night was a like running through a pond
Hurricane Isobel, anyone? Texas A&M 2003 put the drainage system to the test. And it performed splendidly. If it can handle a hurricane leading up to and through a game, I'm sure the rain we got here yesterday is of little concern.
I'm also sure I'm not the only one who remembers the nonstop horizontal rain? It was brutal. My dad and his buds literally held our canopy down for 3 hours of tailgating. Still got wet (haha of course), but still had fun.
Yeh I was at the hurricane Isabel game. Damn good time! Thems was the days
I'll be there, but I have absolutely no idea where I'll be sitting. I'll probably be the only deaf guy there, so if you see a guy using his hands to talk, that's me.
Just ran into a VT recruit getting shown around by one of our receivers! Of course I told him it's a great place to be and that he should be a Hokie! He seemed pretty happy to be here, so that was good!
Know who it was?
I saw Glennon for the first time in awhile at TOTS tonight
Kam Chancellor too. He went to my bro's 21st back in 08
Heading north on I-81 towards Blacksburg.... finally! Going to eat at Sharkies for lunch then the stadium. I will be in an orange dress, maroon scarf, and boots if anyone sees me!
Hoping to get pictures with several players. I really hope to see Antone Exum to have a laugh about his day care service!
I learned a valuable lesson this year. Never plan a trip to visit the girlfriends parents without first consulting the football schedule. Even in the spring. Espn3 here I come. That aside, GAMEDAY!
is espn3 only online? I can't find the channel on verizon.
Yes, i think it's only online
It will actually be on ESPNU Tuesday 4/23 @ 7am if you want to record it and watch. It's not live obviously but at least for everyone that is going to the game they can watch the whole thing again in HD a few days later.
Thanks! heading Over To Baltimore For The O's Game. Just Set My DVR.
*Why Is My Phone CapitalizIng Every Word?
Hell, I can't even find our game on ESPN3! The only things showing up are NC State's, UT's, and Auburn's...
Edit: And as I obsessively reload the page, it comes up. Derp... but why wasn't it in upcoming!
More visitors:
Raymon Minor (3-star athlete who's exploded with offers recently) https://twitter.com/R_Minor1/status/325470468977094656
C.J. Reavis (4-star safety who also holds a ton of offers) https://twitter.com/C_Reavis11/status/325470161832394752
Jalyn Holmes (4-star DE) https://twitter.com/JayHolmes_/status/325594067251642368
Have a good feeling about recruiting today...
I have a good feeling about Reavis (fingers crossed), and if we were to get a surprise commits from Holmes that'd make for a terrific day in my opinion.
Nailed it!!!
UVa Spring Game Summary:

That is great! "Hans Moleman presents: Cavman hit by footballlllllll".
There's a long line in the bookstore for meeting tyrod and kam!
You get a turkey leg for the quote from the Nebraska game. Such fond memories of watching my keys fly down the east stands when I threw my hands in the air...
Let's GO! (God, I've missed this!!!)
Edmunds lined up with the first team.
Logan had a 57 yard completion...and an interception returned 97 yards for a TD.
#redzoneexcellence
And that's #2! Heavens...
We might have spotted the wrong team 13 points haha. Also, for anyone at the game, the old TV logo is right where it was last year on the collar of the uniforms. Are these just old unis? Will we see new ones next year? I think we all hope that they're saving some all maroon uniforms to debut next year, hence the Orange-white game.
Defense is looking good. Offense is a work in progress, but we knew that going in.
With the obvious exception of the two pick sixes, Logan actually looks pretty good.
I'm sure French will have a lot to say about the play of the o-line.
Do you think it's an issue of the orange team thinking the white team was going to roll over?
Regarding the orange uni's, I'm hoping you're right and these aren't going to be our defaults.
**edit**
Also, if this was a full game, we would have had 2 punts blocked at this point.
At least it wasn't returned for a touchdown that time
I'm not sure how I am feeling about this...
Both Leal and Holmes looking really sharp. That touchdown by Leal was great. He bought himself time, kept his eyes down the field, and threw a perfect ball.
I'm feeling pretty good about my "Holmes as starter" prediction. Edmunds is the better athlete, especially with green grass in front of him. In between the tackles though? Not enough vision yet.
Zack McCray looks like an actual tight end. He was a top ten defensive end prospect when he showed up.
*Edit* Just as a said that, a pass flew through his hands
During the 4th quater Roth asked Beamer about limiting what they are running in the game to not tip off Alabama. Beamer's response, "Albama is not worried about us." Oh Frank... gotta love him.
yeah, I caught that. ..I had to listen to the game, I can't watch the game on my phone and my laptop is broken.
Any idea on attendance? I couldn't start watching until the third. Or pictures
I think ESPN3 said it was in the 40,000 range
For attendance west and bottom of south were pretty much full and about half of east was filled, idk about a number though...more than uva at a normal game though
Greetings from El Rods
I'd say 40,000 attendance is a good bet. The offense is still very much a WIP. The completions LT3 made looked better than last year.
