I know we have seen this coming for a while, but still interesting to see this possibly become official. What are your thoughts on the move? With the transfer of our resident fashion designer, we definitely need the depth at Tight End more, with what looks to be a three-horse race for QB1 between Motley, Lawson, and Evans.

That was actually the first thing I typed but I didn't want to put to much pressure on Settle knowing he was going to have Rogers behind him.

Good to know. Speaking of local spirits, the wife and I did a bottling workshop at Catoctin Creek in Purcellville - if you like Gin or Rye Whiskey, they make a pretty good batch.
If you like local and haven't had any of A. Smith Bowman's, you're missing out. It's won several awards and they make some fantastic limited release batches. Past ones have been a port-finished bourbon, red-wine barrel finished bourbon, vanilla infused, double-oaked, and more. Bourbon is made in house while the gin, rum, and vodka just have their label, but they've started some small batches of other items in their new still, like brandy.

The best part is it is reasonably priced. Their basic bourbon, which is a 90 proof, ~7 year bourbon for $35. Then they have a ~10 year single barrel, my favorite, at ~$50. The limited release go for anywhere from $45 to $75 depending on what they do for it. Now it is owned by Sazerac, which is where the other spirits come from, but again, bourbon is made in house.
I live 5 minutes and 32 seconds from it...on foot. Life is good!
Seems to be a trend, at least in NC, to offer more $$$ whiskey. The local shop has added at least 5 more over $100/bottle choices this year. I need to restart the tasting club so I can try them all but only spring for one bottle. Last time Bookers was the favorite in a $40-$60 dollar bottle blind tasting.
Yeah. I don't think the Joseph Magnus is available anywhere other than the distillery itself for the time being, but if you get a chance, I highly recommend trying it. Normally, I couldn't fathom spending that much for a bottle of whiskey, but man... that stuff is so good it makes me seriously consider wanting to always have one around.
The whole keeping one around thing does not work well for me with bourbon/whiskey. The right friend comes over and "try one of these" goes to empty bottle. Not that they don't return the favor, but not at $100 bottle.
I'd use that to get through a visit with the ILs. Hey-oohhh!

I have an unopened bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year waiting in my liquor cabinet. I haven't quite figured out what constitutes a good reason to open it, but I'm sure I'll get curious one of these days.

I generally buy 12 year old, but it is generally 15 years old by the time I finish the bottle.
Only because this bothers me at the moment for some reason., 12 year old bottle that sits for 8 years doesn't become a 20 year old bottle. Spirits don't age in the bottle. If you have a living cask that you use, then that's different, but in the bottle on the shelf it is, more or less, the same now as it is in 20 years.

Saying the stuff is going for $2,000 a bottle at the moment, that would be a solid reason. I deemed my wedding last year to not be enough of a reason to crack it open, so I will have to tread that lightly with the wife.
Two grand sounds like a much better reason to sell it than crack it open. I don't know if I'd have the heart to open a bottle of anything that I could get that much money for.

It's killing me just a little.
I decided to take a little time off from adult beverages, as I felt my tolerance was outgrowing the constraints of a reasonable budget.

He will definitely be a contributor. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. With Bucky looking gassed after running numerous go routes and mulling jumping to the pros, Cline MIA last year, and Mallett about to graduate we could have been grooming someone to play a large role this season.
I just hope Durkin runs with the same rage after a catch as he does after a snap.
The main difference now is that the snap happens at the END of a play when Durkin breaks a safety's bones and then crushes his soul.

I'd like to add to the bourbon/whiskey train and ask how TKP feels about Manhattans
That was my grand fathers favorite drink - Canadian Club and M&R w a splash of angostora. Had over a case of CC in the closet when passd away. Grew up thinking that was the only cocktail there was. Still have them often. Prefer a dry light whiskey like Makers, still M&R for the red, but like experimental bitters. Will still do CC, beam or EDub occasionally. Good whiskey straight up, cheaper with ice. Put a cherry in my wife's. Usually start with a smokier whiskey over ice before switching to Manhattens. Old Fashions are also a nice before dinner drink that are making a come-back.
