I've been banging this drum for a while now. There are signs of improvement on the team that are really easy to overlook because of our records and offensive stats the last three years. I'm not saying we're going to see a flipped switch type improvement where everyone wonders what the hell happened... but I'm not saying that we won't, either.
We really should have all known after RotJ that George was scraping the bottom of his creative barrel. A second Death Star and half-sized wookies called Ewoks. We all honestly should have known what we were in for with the prequels.
Consider Obi Wan's Soresu style isn't going to look like he's actually trying to kill anyone, and Anakin's style is obviously going to look like his master's. General Grievous was swinging to kill against Obi Wan.
Which makes more sense, considering, you know... LIGHTsaber. The hilt would be the only weight.
Also, the Luke/Vader duels were cool even with the "heavier" style. That Obi Wan/Vader duel though...
So let me throw this out here for discussion...
True or False: If VT defeats OSU on Labor Day, it will be the biggest win in school history.
I have my opinion on it, but I'm wondering what others think.
This brings up a funny point. Watching the final duel of RotS makes the Vader/Obi Wan duel in ANH...underwhelming.
I get that Lucas invested a lot more choreography and training to the lightsaber duels in the prequel trilogy, but one unintended consequence is bringing a while new level of significance to the line, "Your powers are weak, old man."
Fuck. Now I have to be a Bills fan.
That, and the fact that basically all the longtime members there went straight Garth Algar about vBulletin.

3-4 each year, ideally.
And the glance Obi Wan gives Luke right before he allows it to happen makes his intention pretty clear.
I dunno. That looked a whole lot like Obi Wan intentionally allowing Luke to witness Vader killing him, to give Luke a nudge.
Andy, also to to add a thought, I hope it doesn't irk you if we point out some typos like this. I'm trying to be helpful when I do it. With the pace of your content production, I figure there's no way you have time to proof everything thoroughly, and I know I appreciate it when someone points out a typo in my writing I didn't catch. Not trying to be Comic Book Guy at all.
Yeah, the passing records at VT should pretty much crumble when Lefty gets a QB who can run his system. That might be as early as this season.
Once we get Loeffler's system firing on all cylinders, I think a 1,000 yard receiver is bound to happen.
Also...
But also remember Tech has thrown the ball more in three years under offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler than it has at any time under Frank Beamer.
Scot's only been here two years.
I always thought Lucas cast way too old for Luke for this very reason. Luke's motivations and behavior with much better for, say, a 14-15 year old than an 18 year old.
Technically, that would be referred to as "the play stands as called after review." By the rules of review, I think the language "the call is confirmed" means that video review proved that the call on the field was demonstrably correct. A play "standing" means the video doesn't make it any clearer what happened, neither confirming nor overruling the call.
I've expressed everything I said here separately in other posts, so I'm sure you've probably heard me hit each of these points before.
I've heard it was the play call for the two point conversion.
Gotcha. I've been in that mindset plenty of times. It just confused me because I didn't get a hint of any sort of "abandon ship!" sentiment from vtStronk's post.
I don't think it's lights out for the program, and ultimately I do think this skid will be a blip on the radar. I believe in what Loeffler is trying to install, I think Stacy Searels is the best OL coach we've had since J.B. Grimes, and I am very high on Zohn Burden and believe he might be customer manufactured to be a legendary VT receivers coach.
I think we've also lost most of the prestige we built during the 10-win streak. And I think that's a blessing in disguise, because maybe we can return to the blue collar, chip on our shoulder mentality that built the program. I'm legitimately more excited for the 2015 season than I've been in quite some time.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. This didn't show up as a reply to my comment and I just stumbled across it.
There's a bunch of reasons to say why a 28ppg offense is underperforming. First and foremost, you have to throw out what the defense does when judging an offense. Like I said elsewhere, the mindset of "oh, our defense holds opponents to 20 ppg, so scoring 28 ppg should be fine" is the exact mindset that leads to the Stanford Orange Bowl: when the defense meets and offense that has its number, our offense is unable to carry the team.
There are standards of efficiency, conversion, time of possession, red zone TD %, etc etc etc that should be used to judge an offense, but defensive performance shouldn't factor in.
Simplest stats I can give you, last year we scored 36 TDs. That ranked 90th in the nation. We got the ball inside our opponent's 20 yard line 48 times and only came away with 25 TDs, 97th in the country.
An offense is judged by the degree to which it takes advantage of the opportunities it is provided. We have failed to capitalize on those opportunities rather spectacularly over the last three seasons, and we still averaged 24.1 ppg. If we actually start executing as an offense, we're gonna score a hell of a lot more than just an extra 3.9 ppg.
I think we're getting close to being back.
Anyone else cringe?
I think you're making some broad assumptions here. All vtStronk was saying is that we have lost any tangible home field advantage over the last three years. The stats certainly seem to support that assertion. Three years is plenty enough to establish a trend, and we have established a trend of mediocrity at home since the 2012 season. Opposing teams don't have much to fear playing in Lane lately.
I have no idea where you're getting anything about jumping off a wagon or being hooish out of a conversation about results on our home field over the last three years.
You answered my question before I could ask it. So your model accounts for dead ball fouls. Good to know.

Won't comment on OP, as smack talk on a fan board is whatevs.
But I do wanna talk about the three Heisman caliber QBs. My hope is our defense comes out on fire, rattles whoever the starter is early, gets Meyer thinking about maybe putting the next guy in. On a perfect night, none of them can find a rhythm and Meyer rotates through all three trying to find the spark. A short leash on a QB against our defense could be a very, very good thing.
The old addage in football is, if you have two quarterbacks, then you don't have a quarterback. Hopefully that goes up exponentially if you have three.
