To be fair, we really don't know. None of the candidates who are currently employed as a HC are going to announce they're moving on to a new school until after the season is over.

We say a lot about Whit (some of it deserved and some not), but in three coaching searches now, info out of VT has been locked down tight.

This right here. We are still in the early Christmas shopping period. The fanbase doesn't need to move on because essentially no one in the fanbase has any impact on the ongoing discussions nor has any real insight into them. The majority of information out there is speculation or leaked by agents to drum up hype for their guy.
We are all anxious to get someone, but if it isn't Franklin, it is going to be December before we hire them and if it is Franklin, it might be December before we hire him.
Take a deep breath, post some gifs and be patient.
Right this is why I'll still be surprised if we here anything before the end of the season there's just too many moving pieces to all of this for every party involved that isn't VT.

VT has Chesney as next in line if Frankin falls through.
We are definitely not Chesney's only potential suitor. Chesney is likely not going to make his decision based on Franklin's timeline.
If Sexton is still dragging this out for a better gig or more money, it's time to move on and get Chesney before he gets scooped up elsewhere
