From the people I know (living in UF territory) there is some level of cold feet just due to the Coaching Market this year, but there seems to be a strong belief that a loss to Miss St would likely be the end.

The other thing to consider is Napier's buyout is relatively cheap in comparison to many others that have been paid.

Edit: there is also a fringe element to the fanbase that thinks Kiffin is in their pocket the second the H.C. job opens.

I'm a "sell the farm" to get Franklin kinda guy here. This would be a significant statement about VT football.

That's basically what the Florida alum I work with has said. He can't stand Billy boy but feels pretty certain he'll still be in Gainesville next year.

If FSU were to fire Norvell, I would expect them to make a major play for Franklin as well.

That would be about ~$110 mil in buyouts between the two....insane.

Clark Lea (without Kill and Beck) is Fool's Gold to me. While he deserves enough credit for getting them and his 9th year Sr. QB to Vandy, I don't think he is successful without them. He may know that well enough to stay there.

There have been rumors about Key to Florida. He had to address it in a presser recently.

But it would pretty shocking if he left. Edit: Not shocking, but.... A sign of the times?

GT isn't flashy but they just probably put the nail in a Duke team that played them very tough.

Here's a name that hasn't been floated in the potential Coaching Carousel: Brent Key.....

I know he's a GT guy, but with Wisc, FL, FSU, and UNC all possibly opening up, you'd have to imagine someone kicks the tires on that one...

Assuming this turns out to be some vendetta or impropriety by the VHSL, I hope this situation turns into a major damages win for Thomas & his family. You are taking away a portion of the lives of children (who I am presuming are innocent in all of this) that they will never be able to recover. All over petty rules about where the family lives that should be very easy to figure out quickly, yet it has been dragged out for several months with seemingly vague rulings based on secret society meetings and muddy procedure.

Again, I am saying all that assuming Thomas and his family are in the right all along.

Yep...you know what's worse than being a perennial Top-10 team that can never quite break through?

Not being a Top 10 team anymore and paying $50 mil to do that to yourself.

Mrs MattBoard is a Penn State fan and she was initially glad he was gone, but as time passes, I think she is seeing that maybe the grass isn't always greener

Agreed, after watching the last gasps of Pry, I don't blame anyone for looking for a different landing spot.

Also, with Delane playing well at LSU and Mose Philips barely cracking the field at Missou (1 GP, 1 Tackle) I think there is more clarity at this point as to where some of our issues in the Secondary were stemming from.

I'm happy for him. Wish he was playing for us, but from his freshman year I never expected him to be on the team in 2025, so I'm not upset he's not on the team.

But shout out to all the Delane sucks actually truthers last off-season calling me crazy for thinking he's good

Do you ever walk into a car dealership and yell out "I have $90,000 to spend, what can I get?" No, you go find what you want and then talk the money numbers.

I like keeping any of those money concerns out of the public. Privately, you reassure the agents/candidates that you have secured the money and will be able to pay them and give them the resources they will need/want.

This is why I wouldn't have fired Franklin, especially this year. I'm not sure there's an upgrade willing to come there and you'll likely be competing with FSU, Florida, and Auburn.

VT is really a great set up given the recruiting and staff ties, and if he wants the added bonus of sticking it to Penn State, what better way than to crush them in recruiting?

FSU would certainly be tough competition but I don't think they can afford to fire Norvell this year. UNC would be my biggest fear if it were to open up. If we're interested we need to be moving quickly and lock this up.
