Thanks for sharing. This feels like a tribute you would play at a funeral. It's a sad and depressing week in America and this just adds to those feelings but thankfully it's just entertainment at the end of the day. I will always love VT football but I'm reluctantly accepting the fact that the joy of VT football is gone.

If I'm comparing Fuente to Pry, I think the only category I can score to Pry is that he cut his losses and fired some of his assistants. Otherwise, I don't think it's unreasonable to say Fuente could coach circles around him.

When I was probably 13 my mom was going home frequently to visit her dad who was sick. One weekend my dad randomly took my brother and I downtown because the Smithsonian was doing a display where they brought in all these poisonous Amazonian frogs. We checked out the frogs and walked around all the monuments; it was a really nice day. Sorry for the random brain dump, but I hope you have some quality time with the kids doing whatever you've got going on.

Pry and Whit being jointly fired before October being more likely than Pry stepping down voluntarily is kind of like saying that buying a lottery ticket and winning the lottery is more likely than not buying a lottery ticket and winning the lottery.
That is to say, neither is likely and one of them is just less likely than the other.

Sumrall is holding out for Auburn/Florida/LSU/good SEC job. He's not going back to UK. He's above that. He also doesn't want to go to a school where basketball is the top priority. Source is a Tulane NIL Booster who has weekly conference calls with Sumrall (all the NIL boosters above a certain level get a standing invite to a monday zoom call with Sumrall where he spills tea with them)
Pry is not stepping down. I can think of 2 times that's happened in modern cfb: Spurrier at SCar and Gary Anderson at Oregon State. Neither of those situations are like Pry. He's not going to just step down.
I think it's more likely that Pry is fired before October (in a package deal with Whit, just like GT did 3 years ago), especially if we lose to ODU this weekend.

No decision is going to be made before October. Best case, Pry might say I am going to step away and not force you to fire me at the end of the season but you can go ahead and start your coaching search.

I hate to say this but I need to defend Fuente a little.
He walked into a situation where apparently somebody in Merriman was working against him and had literally half the resources that Pry does for recruiting and development.
He would not have gotten a job in the college football playoff analyst department if people out there didn't think he was a good coach. Bad fit for Tech and way to loyal to corny, definitely.
Mullen would be a hire to get us back to operating like a football school again. If we bring him in, it would have to be with an understanding that he gets to mold VT as he sees fit, top to bottom. The ACC is a conference where more teams are getting it wrong than getting it right, so if you are able to bring in someone who establishes the right culture from the start, even if its not perfect it can still outpace the majority, and that might be enough to at least get us on some radars when the P2 expansion happens.
But without us actually being willing to fund our programs at a competitive level, I don't know why he would even consider us.
It would be nice to be in a spot where we even need to think about fending off suitors for our head coach.
I think we should can Whit yesterday, can Pry today, and offer Mullen the job tomorrow.
Give someone the interim HC position to finish this season, but consider the 2025 season a wash, use it to reset, and get a new AD in here with time to clean house before the 2026 season and give Dan Mullen the keys to the (albeit currently broken down) Camaro.
Even if he bails after a few years for a bigger job, I'm reasonably confident he could come in and start winning football games fairly immediately. And that is what we need more than anything else. A competent operator behind the wheel who knows how to win games. Someone to stop the bleeding, and set the program back on its feet over the next few years in time for the ACC to implode.
And if he leaves for something bigger and better? We shake his hand and say thank you. The days of hiring life-term head coaches are over. We're not trying to hire Frank Beamer. And hopefully by this time we will have a competent AD who we can trust to replace Mullen.
I don't care if they're cool as a cucumber if they make good decisions and win games.
It's the losing that pisses me off.

Unfortunately, for me, watching this video actually depressed me.
Making it depressed me too, it took me days. I suppose that was kind of the point though - to let myself feel the sadness of what we used to have versus what we have now.
I think feeling that pain and allowing ourselves to feel that pain as fans, is better than feeling nothing and allowing the apathy to set in. The video is supposed to be a reminder that what we have, and have had at this place, is special. We need to grieve what is gone, but not roll over and die.
And I know there's not much we can do as fans to change a program from the top to the bottom like it needs to be, but we can demand better of the Tech admin and AD. This video is kind of meant to be a "look what they took from us".
I just don't think we should go out with a whimper.
I'll be Mr. Mom as my wife is going back to Edmonton to visit her family. Unfortunately, someone has gotten a bad diagnosis. We'll all be going over US Thanksgiving. But I do plan on watching or listening at least a little bit. Not caring that much, but I do have a curiosity for how the team will respond. If they just totally fold up again, that will be a disappointment. But it has been a long time (the Kentucky bowl game) since I've gotten worked up over anything VT football did.
