King likely would be a better GM than Arians. Would much rather Arians be involved in evaluating the coach/football operations piece. King is involved in player evaluations and contract negotiations and has interviewed for GM roles twice now. My concern would be he wouldn't consider it if it lessens his profile for an NFL GM role.
I mean, it depends right? Mike Elko was at Duke one season and made it a better job showed that it was a better job than people realized.
I would take one good season at this point. It would at least reengage the fan base and show that it can actually be done. Show that if done right, you can win in Blacksburg again.
Any suggestions for Bass fishing spots in RVA? Just started getting in to it with the wife and kids about a month ago. We've mostly been hitting U of R. Tried a few other spots ( Tuckahoe Creek Park and Pocahontas State Park) but didn't like them as much.

Bruce Arians would be the perfect guy for this.
Another name who is really beginning to make his name in the front office is Jeff King. While he doesn't have the resume of Arians, I do think having someone like in the "front office" could be a game changer.

Regardless of what happens, I'd like us to follow-suit on what so many other schools are doing and bring in a General Manager of Football Operations. Have it someone who's main job is to oversee everything about the football program and be the one person who the head coach is accountable to. My ideal candidate there would be Bruce Arians, and let him build out the program as he sees fit with the Athletic Director staying the fuck out of his way. Let him run the head coaching search so we can also look for a replacement of Whit as well.

Oh I agree. But it's right spot for the right kid. I passed on going to UMD because it was/is too urban. I know my kids who are early 20's, and "kids" that have just left our company to go back towards urban centers; leaving the rural beachy life behind.
We're bantering, and it comes down to some kids are cut out for the city, and some aren't. Some love Blacksburg and the NRV (see Brewer!!!!) but it's not for everyone. VT isn't in the race for all recruits, even if we had the bag and the coaching and the wins and the trophies. Sadly, we're lacking bigly in a cadre of categories.

My point is if VT offered that kid $800k, where would have chose to go if the money was the same?
But what about the next kid.
Hypothetical scenario where JC Price is our Brent Key and we have $800k, and JC says I want to build a team around the DL, and we go and get a top 5 HS DL. None of those kids want to live in Blacksburg?

I don't have any data on this. I love cities. My wife and settled down and are raising a family in the middle of Atlanta (literally, we live 4 Marta east of the Mercedez Benz stadium). And I still loved Blacksburg, and chose it over college park (I know... they're campus is waayyy uglier and way more suburban than GT's but still)
And I know - I'm not an 18 year old recruit. I don't think location is an insurmountable obstacle for most recruits. That's all I'm saying.
And if we get into the SEC one day, it's a complete non-issue. You can't tell me anyone would prefer Oxford over Blacksburg, all else equal.
Take any budget allocations to national advertisement and put it into Athletics. People talking and writing about VT athletics is worth more than some commercials. Keep and maybe cut back in-state ads, but again Tech showing up on every TV all fall and winter is the best ads you can buy.

If you press each of the buttons on the side of the screen while the video plays, sometimes they have a mute button enabled on one of them. Or keep some of that chrome tape in your vehicle and tape over the speaker vent. I saw that done one time and it worked really well.

I don't care who we get, as long as it's someone who is as passionate about football as Jerry Kill looked on Vandy's sideline against us. I'm done with these "stare off in the distance and chew gum" guys like Fuente and Pry. Passionate coach = passionate players = winning football
